A military solution to U.S. illegals?

A military solution to U.S. illegals?
    May 5, 2008
Illegal immigration and military retention (because of the war) continue to be major problems for our country. Here is a win-win solution: First we do whatever it takes to seal the border. We then announce to the nation that any illegal immigrants will be able to gain citizenship by serving at least two years in the military, with a minimum of one year overseas. Those who do not come forward will be asked to leave. Those who do not come forward and do not leave will be hunted down, prosecuted (fined, if possible) and deported. Those citizens convicted of harboring illegals will also be prosecuted.

As a combat veteran, it hurts me to see our military men and woman dying and doing two, three and four tours in this debacle of a war, when there millions of illegal men and woman who could help us and help themselves. I can forgive, if they are willing to fight for the right to be a citizen.

The problem is that we all know that our leaderless government will be influenced by some nonproductive, meddling, special-interest group that will eventually make us apologize for even suggesting this.

It would have to be at least 4 years unless you plan on having all Spanish speaking battalions. You will spend the first year teaching English and the next year improving their educational level. Today’s military is more than putting a rifle in someone’s hands. Technological advances within today’s military have raised the bar for creating an effective combat force. I myself would not feel comfortable in combat with someone who is supposed to be covering my back but because of a language barrier doesn’t understand the objective. Our congress came up with the same idea in conjunction with the Dream Act. I believe the options were go to college or do two years in the Army which met with resistance from some veterans. Considering the cost of training each individual 2 years isn’t long enough to get a return on your investment. A 2 year enlistment would mean buy the time their trained they would be getting ready to get out without seeing 1 day of combat. Under the quality force programs that the military now has most illegal would never qualify.

As a veteran I can relate to your pain. I too am tired of seeing our men and women dying to secure the land and borders of another country while our borders are wide open. I could go along with your idea and it has great merit, but with more required time in service. They want and demand rights in this country, fine, earn them, freedom isn’t free. Nothing burns me more than watching them protest in the streets demanding something they have no right to demand.

citizens are obligated to 6 years .. if a person goes into the military and get out... they may be called back in at any time as the government needs to fulfill that 6 year obligation

no thank you... there are enough gangsters being trained by our military that come home and jump right back into gangs with high tech assault tactics

Give millions of illegal aliens an opportunity to arm themselves and learn advanced military technologies and tactics? Not wise at all considering it is currently a felony for an illegal alien to even have a gun.

Give the pentagon an unlimited supply of troops from around the world they can trade citizenship for service for?

Legal immigration levels would almost double under this plan, America would be filled with mercenaries from across the planet with access and training in elite combat and weaponry.

The FBI is already on the lookout in Texas where the illegal alien and drug smuggling gangs are asking their members to join the military for access to the guns and training already.

Sapper, I agree there is a real concern about training a potential future gang member. Honestly, I would have my doubts about how long it would take to train an IA. Not even sure that I would trust one to watch my back. Doesn't sound appealing at all. Todays military folks are better trained and educated than at any time in our past in my opinion. Let's not dumb down the military just to try to solve our IA problem.

Well, in my opinion, you become an American citizen first, then serve this country. Not the other way around.

UNACCEPTABLE! The military quit allowing criminals to serve a long time ago, why allow it now? Why woudl we want people who have already show they have no respect for this country's laws to protect us in war time? Show these ILLEGALS the door. If they want to serve in our military then let them come here honorably and legally and serve.

Imagine training drug smugglers, gang members etc on how to be a better killer. Instead of idiot loosely formed gangs they will come back as highly trained, organized groups hoping to take over the USA. BAD IDEA!

I would seem that access to guns and training isn’t much of a problem from what I’ve seen that has been confiscated. They are better armed than most police departments that have full tactical units. The U.S. trained the Zetas before they were Zetas and I’m sure they are staying up to date with the new tactics.

Remember Mexico is a sovereign nation and as such they could get arms and training from anywhere in the world. The drug cartels have enough money they could get training from any country that hates everything we stand for. They could be getting training from Iran and there’s nothing the U.S. could do about it except make hollow threats or declaring war on Mexico. Bush won’t cross that line even if provoked or with cause.

I would be more concerned with the 1.4 billion that boosh wants to send to Mexico to fight the drug cartels. Giving helicopters, hummers, and guns to a country that still celebrates socialist holidays has never worked out well for us. We always end up dying from our own munitions.

Anyway this is a mute discussion. Military Regs say Illegals can’t join. In many cases you have language and educational barriers that would take to long to bridge for a standard enlistment. Also why join the military to get citizenship when all three presidential contenders want to give it to them anyway.

The CIA also was responsible for teaching Bin Laden all he knows. One of the first non-Afghan volunteers to join the ranks of the mujahideen in the Afghan fight against the Soviet Union was Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden recruited 4,000 volunteers from his own country and developed close relations with the most radical mujahideen leaders. He also worked closely with the CIA, raising money from private Saudi citizens.

This one sure has come back to haunt us![/u]

While my brother was at Lackland AFB, he said there was a picture of saddam hussein there that was taken when he went for some kind of advanced training. The US bring foreign military personel and trains then in US tax payer paid bases. While my brother was there he said there 2-3 mexican airmen getting trained.
