Dear Donald Trump=> You Know Damn Well Mitt Romney Is “The Snake” – Do Not Let Him In

    Jim Hoft Nov 23rd, 2016 7:21 pm

"The Snake" is a song and single released by American singer Al Wilson in 1968, and written by Oscar Brown in 1963. The lyrics tell a story inspired by Aesop’s fable of The Farmer and the Viper.

Republican candidate Donald Trump read the lyrics at several campaign rallies to illustrate his position on the Syrian refugee crisis.

Trump read “The Snake” at his Bloomington, Illinois earlier this year.

    — Steve (@HQDev) March 13, 2016

On her way to work one morning
Down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman saw a poor half frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
“Oh well,” she cried, “I’ll take you in and I’ll take care of you”
“Take me in oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven’s sake
Take me in oh tender woman, ” sighed the snake

She wrapped him up all cozy in a curvature of silk
And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk
Now she hurried home from work that night as soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she’d taking in had been revived
“Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven’s sake
Take me in oh tender woman, ” sighed the snake

Now she clutched him to her bosom, “You’re so beautiful,” she cried
“But if I hadn’t brought you in by now you might have died”
Now she stroked his pretty skin and then she kissed and held him tight
But instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite
“Take me in, oh tender woman
Take me in, for heaven’s sake
Take me in oh tender woman, ” sighed the snake

“I saved you,” cried that woman
“And you’ve bit me even, why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I’m going to die”
“Oh shut up, silly woman,” said the reptile with a grin
“You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in.

There are reports this week that Mitt Romney is a leading candidate for Secretary of State in the Trump administration.

Mitt Romney was a top critic of Donald Trump during the campaign. His quotes made it into several Hillary ads against Donald Trump.

Trump supporters unanimously hate the idea.

Dear Donald Trump – Mitt Romney is “The Snake.”

    Do not let him in.

Romney is without question a snake. No one can trust him at this point in any position on behalf of the American People and most certainly not on behalf of the Trump Administration.

Mitt Romney wrong choice for Trump’s secretary of state, analysts say

By Ralph Z. Hallow - The Washington Times - Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Some Donald Trump supporters are warning that naming Mitt Romney as secretary of state will antagonize much of the president-elect’s base.

The base thinks Mr. Romney represents an interventionist foreign policy that Mr. Trump rejected repeatedly during the campaign.

Mr. Romney “would be a terrible choice,” said former Texas Republican Party Chairman Tom Pauken. “His foreign policy views are in total conflict with Trump’s. He will bring terrible people with him to State. His selection will do Trump much more harm than good with Trump’s supporters. It sends exactly the wrong signal.”

The former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee criticized Mr. Trump sharply during the campaign and has said relatively little about where he comes down on policy disputes between the Republican internationalist old guard and the “America first” revolutionists whom Mr. Trump championed.

“Romney would hire all those who brought us the Iraq War, Libya and drone-bombing Africa,” said former U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland Faith Whittlesey. “And he would deeply demoralize Trump supporters.”

Anthony Salvia, who served in the State Department under President Reagan, predicts there would be no rhyme or reason to a Romney-run foreign policy.

“It’s hard to imagine Romney saying the kinds of things Trump has said regarding interventionism and politics in general,” said Mr. Salvia. “If you look at what Romney’s said, he’s more in line with traditional Republican foreign policy rather than the major change Trump campaigned on.”

Mr. Trump’s transition team has floated the former Massachusetts governor’s name for appointment to the post, and the two men met privately over the weekend in New Jersey.

Some in the tea party movement and some prominent conservative Republican stalwarts don’t trust Mr. Romney to hew to Mr. Trump’s views on a number of policy issues that were central to his upset victory Nov. 8.

“I trust Donald Trump’s decision-making, but I don’t trust Mitt Romney policy views,” said Cleveland Tea Party founder Ralph King. “I think Romney will actually work against Trump on trade, good relations with Russia, avoiding wars in the Middle East. Trump can fire him, but will he want to do that?”

Mr. King said firing a top Cabinet official gives ammunition to the president’s enemies.

“I understand why people say, ‘Keep your friends close and your enemies closer,’ but you don’t want to give them a gun to shoot you with, politically speaking,” Mr. King said.

Mr. Trump has emphasized trade deals that treat the U.S. fairly, comity with Russian President Vladimir Putin, skepticism toward NATO’s post-Cold War relevancy and military interventions abroad only when U.S. vital interests are in clear and imminent danger.

Robert Schadler, senior fellow in public diplomacy at the American Foreign Policy Council, said that of the top four Cabinet-level appointments — State, Defense, Justice and Treasury — “State is most easily ‘trumped’ by the White House (by way of the president’s National Security Council). So, foreign policy can be run mainly from the White House more easily than the other three.”

But that assumes a president new to the foreign policy world appoints to his National Security Council people who fully share his broad foreign policy views.

“The pluses of a Romney appointment are that he has supporters who are anti-Trump,” said Mr. Schadler. “Trump would show he is willing to overlook rather vicious attacks on him and look forward. A Romney would calm many foreign leaders who are anxious and suppress some domestic criticism by the press and Democrats of his overall selections.”

But, he added, “Romney does not know all that much about foreign policy, he has his own supporters, he could resign in a huff and might want to pursue his own views on foreign policy rather than those of Trump,” said Mr. Schadler. “Finally, Romney disappoints Trump supporters, many of whom think Romney a kind of ninny.”

Mr. Romney has support among some in the foreign policy community, but critics fear he will fill the State Department with the kinds of establishment Republicans Mr. Trump campaigned against.

“Romney’s a practical politician, so he’s as suited as anyone to forge a foreign policy that fits both Trump’s instincts and world realities,” said Philip Peters, president of the Cuba Research Center. “The next secretary of state’s first job will be to anchor our foreign policy to realities ignored in the campaign.”

“Those ‘realities’ are that the Russians in Syria are not primarily fighting [the Islamic State group], the NATO treaty is a real obligation, leaving the Trans-Pacific Partnership will delight China and hurt U.S. exporters, and suspending NAFTA will hurt the Mexican economy and increase illegal immigration,” said Mr. Peters.

The ultimate question, said Mr. Pauken, is, “How you take on Wall Street insiders and Republican elites by picking the ultimate embodiment of that class for your secretary of state?”

Trump's Top Aide Has Received 'Deluge' of Messages Regarding Romney

By Solange Reyner | Thursday, 24 Nov 2016 11:57 AM

Receiving deluge of social media & private comms re: Romney Some Trump loyalists warn against Romney as sec of state

    6:00 AM - 24 Nov 2016

Trump is allegedly deciding between Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for the position.

Trump and Romney were at odds during most of the presidential campaign with Romney calling Trump a "phony" and a "fraud" while arguing that his policies would lead to a recession.

Conway, in the same tweet on Thursday, linked to a story on Politico's website on Trump loyalists Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee warning against Romney as Secretary of State.

Huckabee, according to Fox News, said the nomination of a disloyal Republican would be a distraction in a president's administration and Huckabee said it would be an insult to voters if Romney was picked.

The only way Romney "could even be considered for a post like that," said Huckabee, is if "he goes to a microphone in a very public place and repudiates everything he said in that famous Salt Lake City speech and everything he said after that, where he said Donald Trump wasn't fit, that he lacked character."

Romney is not the right person, there's no gain at all with someone like him, only loss. He showed his true colors, and they aren't our colors. Kick him to the curb. You've already got your hands full with Nikki Haley.

Picking Romney for Secretary of State would be a huge mistake. Mr. Trump, you're smarter than that! Mending fences is one thing, but you don't have to make him part of your administration. He's disloyal and an open borders globalist. Not what we need.

Battle surrounds Trump's secretary of state pick

Mandel NGAN, with Nicolas REVISE in Washington
    AFPNovember 24, 2016

Palm Beach (United States) (AFP) - As families across a bitterly divided America gathered for Thanksgiving, a battle erupted Thursday in Donald Trump's camp over his pick for secretary of state, with loyalists seeking to block the path of Mitt Romney, a fierce former critic of the billionaire.

With the president-elect hunkered down at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for the holiday weekend -- from where he urged the country to unite after a "painful" campaign -- his team appears split over the prospect of making Romney, the Republican presidential candidate in 2012, America's top diplomat.

Some of Trump's staunchest supporters have united to oppose naming a man who called the real estate magnate a "fraud" and a "conman" during the campaign, when he helped lead the party establishment's drive to sideline him.

But the other leading choice for top diplomat, outspoken former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani -- one of Trump's loudest supporters from early in his campaign -- has drawn scrutiny for business dealings that could pose conflicts of interest.

"I am working hard, even on Thanksgiving," Trump tweeted on Thursday, saying he was seeking to persuade an Indiana air-conditioning company, Carrier Corp, to remain in the United States.

But his transition team said there will be no new cabinet announcements until at least Friday.

    - Opposition to Romney -

Despite his lack of experience in foreign policy, Giuliani, 72, has openly lobbied for secretary of state, telling Trump's advisers he is interested in no other position, The New York Times reported.

However, Giuliani's candidacy has drawn attention to business dealings with foreign governments that may rule him out.

Picking Romney -- who lost the White House race to Barack Obama four years ago -- would reassure the Republican establishment and US allies worried about Trump's foreign policy.

But the businessman and former Massachusetts governor who savaged Trump's candidacy during the campaign also publicly differs from him on Russia, a leading foreign policy challenge.

While the president-elect has praised President Vladimir Putin, promising to improve strained relations with Moscow, Romney has called Russia America's "number-one geopolitical foe."

Trump's close aide Kellyanne Conway cast further doubt on his suitability Thursday in what appeared to be a bad sign for Romney.

"Receiving deluge of social media & private comms re: Romney," she tweeted. "Some Trump loyalists warn against Romney as sec of state."

Among them, former House speaker Newt Gingrich, another staunch Trump supporter, expressed skepticism that Romney would represent "the kind of tough-minded, America-first policies that Trump has campaigned on."

"I can think of 20 other people who would be more naturally compatible with the Trump vision of foreign policy," he told Fox News.

Gingrich was joined by former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who told Fox News he was "still very unhappy that Mitt did everything he could to derail Donald Trump."

    - Victory for conservatives -

Trump has so far nominated mainly older white men for his future administration, representing tough, right-wing lines on immigration, Islamic extremism and other issues. They include Jeff Sessions as attorney general, Michael Flynn as national security adviser and Stephen Bannon as chief strategist.

Trump moved to broaden his cabinet's base on Wednesday, nominating two women, including South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley -- whose parents are Sikh immigrants from India -- as US ambassador to the United Nations.

Haley is a Tea Party conservative with no foreign policy experience, while Trump's choice of billionaire Betsy DeVos -- a fierce advocate of alternatives to local public schooling -- for education represents another victory for social conservatives.

Trump is widely expected to name the tough-talking retired Marine Corps general James "Mad Dog" Mattis as defense secretary on Friday.

Trump is also expected to pick his former primary rival Ben Carson -- an African American former neurosurgeon and religious conservative -- as secretary of housing and urban development.

Steve Mnuchin, a former Goldman Sachs banker, is tipped for Treasury secretary, and according to the Financial Times the billionaire Wilbur Ross could be in line for the strategic post of commerce secretary.

With Americans still coming to terms with Trump's shock win on November 8, the former Green Party candidate Jill Stein announced Thursday that her party has raised the necessary $1.1 million to request a vote recount in the key battleground of Wisconsin, and is on track to seek one in two other Rust Belt states.

The Midwestern state of Wisconsin was a key battleground in helping to propel Trump to victory. The billionaire also won swing state Pennsylvania, and claimed a razor-thin victory in Michigan according to unofficial results released Wednesday.

The request comes amid mounting pressure from liberals to challenge the results of an election marked by fears of foreign hacking and -- from the Trump camp -- of vote rigging.

Although it is not expected to change the outcome, the demands could reignite debate over the legitimacy of Trump's election, already fuelled by Hillary Clinton's lead in the popular vote which now stands at two million.
