New York lawmaker becomes first Republican in Congress to say he'll vote for Hillary Clinton

    (Los Angeles Times)

A New York lawmaker became the first Republican member of Congress to say he will vote for Hillary Clinton, declaring that Donald Trump will only push the GOP to its extremes.

"I have long held the belief that the Republican Party is becoming increasingly less capable of nominating a person who is electable as president," Rep. Richard Hanna wrote in an op-ed. "The primary process is so geared toward the party's political base, which ignores the fact that we have largely alienated women, Hispanics, the LGBT community, young voters and many others in general."

Hanna represents a swing district in upstate New York and is retiring after three terms.

For those curious @RepRichardHanna has announced his retirement from Congress. No political race ahead@HillaryClinton @realDonaldTrump
    6:37 AM - 2 Aug 2016

Hanna's announcement comes after a rough few days for Trump. The Republican nominee has been repeatedly lambasted for criticizing the parents of a fallen U.S. soldier. Hanna called Trump"a national embarrassment," adding that these latest comments, coupled with his attacks on Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) last year, make him unfit to be president.

"I do not expect perfection," Hanna wrote, "but I do require more than the embodiment of at least a short list of the seven deadly sins."

I just saw the Charlie Dent interview with Tapper on The Lead. Oh he's sickening. What a PUS POT he is. He's weak, he's stupid, he's all into tone and "measured statements". "Measured statements", is SCRIPTED STATEMENTS, that is NOT Donald Trump, THAT is Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama and yes, Bill Clinton and the Bushes who ALL GOT US INTO THE MESS WE'RE IN.

We want plain talk, real talk, we want tell it like it is, we want reaction, response, from your gut, your mind, your heart, the same way Americans respond to events and news. I must tell you, the first thing I thought during that Khan interview was why isn't the wife saying something, why stand there like a stick watching your Angry Muslim waving the US Constitution and pointing fingers at the American People over a death Donald Trump had nothing to do with as you support the woman who voted to authorize the war in in Iraq that took the life of your son? So Donald Trump reacted to her the silence the same way I did, thinking she probably isn't allowed to say anything, and I'll best most Americans did. That is our right to react. We're entitled to our feelings and beliefs. This is our country.

And when you wrongfully and without any legitimate basis that you disclose, attack a candidate for President, then you need to be man enough or woman enough to take the blow-back. This is political war and you stepped your asses right in the middle of it. You are antagonists, that makes you our opponent, and because you're promoting foreign Muslimism into the US that threatens our national and personal security, and we've since learned lining your pockets with it as a lousy immigration lawyer, all is fair in war.

Yes, you grieve the loss of your son. Well, millions of American families grieve the loss of their children and loved ones who were killed by illegal aliens, terrorists, in foreign wars and from crime, accidents, disease and medical malpractice. Your grief and your loss is no greater than theirs. Stop pitying yourselves as if you're special and your suffering is somehow greater than someone else's.

These so-called Republicans jumping ship are cowards, wolves in sheep's clothing, finally exposing themselves. They are weak and stupid. Hopefully, this will end their careers and put them out to pasture so they are no longer causing the problems, freeing the rest of US to solve them.

VOTE FOR THE SMART ONE WHO WON'T JUMP SHIP!

VOTE FOR DONALD J TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

Meg Whitman joins chorus of Republicans to endorse Hillary Clinton

    AUG. 2, 2016, 8:39 P.M.

    8:39 P.M.Kurtis Lee

Meg Whitman joins chorus of Republicans supporting Hillary Clinton

    (Los Angeles Times)

Meg Whitman, the Hewlett-Packard chief executive who ran unsuccessfully for governor of California in 2010, will back Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, joining other prominent Republicans troubled by Donald Trump's candidacy.

"As a proud Republican, casting my vote for president has usually been a simple matter. This year is different,” Whitman wrote on Facebook. “Donald Trump’s demagoguery has undermined the fabric of our national character.”

Whitman, a major GOP fundraiser whose net worth is about $2 billion, also told the New York Times that she planned to raise money for Clinton.

Whitman has already donated more than $100,000 to anti-Trump efforts, but her decision to actively solicit donations for Clinton is a major blow to Trump's fundraising, which has deeply lagged behind Clinton. Last month, Clinton raised $90 million for her campaign and that of other Democrats, while Trump said he raised a bit more than one-third of that.

“Trump’s unsteady hand would endanger our prosperity and national security. His authoritarian character could threaten much more,” wrote Whitman, urging fellow Republicans to reject his nomination.

In recent days, Trump has drawn scorn from Democrats and Republicans alike for his criticism of an American Muslim family whose son died in combat in Iraq, and several leading Republican operatives have backed off from supporting Trump.

    Sally Bradshaw
, an influential GOP strategist in Florida who advised former Gov. Jeb Bush during his primary campaign, announced Monday that she would leave the party.

A day later, Maria Comella, a top former advisor to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, also called Trump a demagogue and signaled her support for Clinton.

Trump, she said, "has been a demagogue this whole time, preying on people's anxieties with loose information and salacious rhetoric, drumming up fear and hatred of the 'other.' "

The move by several Republican women to back Clinton underscores the issues the GOP nominee has had with female voters.

Trump's comments about women, including suggesting that a Fox News reporter was menstruating when she questioned him in a Republican debate, have been the subject of advertising by Clinton and super PACS supporting her campaign.

While speaking to reporters Tuesday, President Obama declared Trump “unfit” to become president and said Republican denunciations of Trump’s actions are hollow if they continued to endorse him.

“There has to come a point at which you say, 'Enough,' " he said. "...

The alternative is that the entire party effectively endorses and validates the positions that are being articulated.”

Yeah, leave it to STUPID MEG to think a man who wants to save our country from the disastrous policies of open borders, free trade treason, deficit spending, failing infrastructure, no-gain foreign wars, and Radical Islamic Terrorism is a .... "demagogue".

It kills me really when these phonies lining their pockets from the very policies that are bankrupting our nation and impoverishing our citizens think someone who wants to stop this madness is threatening our "national character."

Hewlett-Packard. Can't you do better than someone who wants to bankrupt our nation and impoverish our citizens? It's something you really should think about. Otherwise, you might face a boycott. In fact, you probably deserve a boycott now.

    BOYCOTT HEWLETT-PACKARD.

    SAVE AMERICA!

VOTE FOR DONALD J TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

When I worked in the corporate world, no employee discussed who they were voting for let alone the President or CEO of the company. That would have just been a big NO-NO for leaders of public companies who have shareholders with all types of points of view and political persuasions. Why would you insult your employees and shareholders who support Trump?

GOP Congressman Announces He’s Voting for Clinton: Trump’s a ‘National Embarrassment’

GOP Congressman Announces He’s Voting for Clinton: Trump’s a ‘National Embarrassment’

by Ken Meyer | 9:48 am,
    August 2nd, 2016

The #NeverTrump movement might be over in terms of stopping Donald Trump from becoming the Republican nominee, but on Tuesday, a GOP congressman announced he’ll abandon ship in favor of Hillary Clinton for the general election — becoming the first elected official to do so in the process.

Richard Hanna, a three-term New York Republican representative, announced in a Syracuse Post Standard op-ed that he will cross party lines come November. While other Congressional figures have resistedor denounced Trump outright in the past, the outgoing Congressman is the first to announce he’s completely rejecting the Republican nominee.

While Hanna noted that he has a lot of disagreements with the former Secretary of State, “she stands and has stood for causes bigger than herself for a lifetime,” Hanna wrote. “Mrs. Clinton has promoted many of the issues I have been committed to over the years including expanding education and supporting women’s health care.”

As far as Trump goes, Hanna described the mogul as “the embodiment of at least a short list of the seven deadly sins,” and that his lack of political understanding and attacks on various groups are disqualifying.
“It is not enough to simply denounce his comments,” Hanna said. “He is unfit to serve our party and cannot lead this country.”

Hanna’s piece follows the announcement by Sally Bradshaw, a Republican aide for Jeb Bush, who announced this week that the attacks on Khizr Khan were the last straw for her support for Trump.

In GOP primary for Rep. Richard Hanna's seat, 3 battle for conservative vote

Steve Wells, of Cazenovia, left, faces Claudia Tenney, of New Hartford, and George Phillips, of Endwell, in a Republican primary for the 22nd Congressional District. The election is Tuesday, June 28. The candidates are vying for the seat that will open with the retirement of Rep. Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld.

    22ND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT RACE

    All Stories

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Democrats and Republicans will have their eyes on a GOP primary election Tuesday to come up with a candidate for the seat of U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld, who will retire at the end of the year.

The national political parties have identified New York and Hanna's sprawling 22nd Congressional District as a key battleground in November. The results will help determine whether Republicans keep control of the House of Representatives.

First, the GOP must come up with a candidate to face Democrat Kim Myers, a Broome County legislator, for the open seat.

The three Republicans battling in Tuesday's primary are state Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, Cazenovia businessman Steve Wells and George Phillips, an American history teacher from Endwell in Broome County.

Public polls show the race will likely come down to what has turned into a bitter battle between Tenney and Wells. Phillips, who has lost two previous elections for Congress, has come in a distant third in the polls.
All three candidates have rushed to prove their conservative credentials to likely voters in an eight-county district stretching from Lake Ontario and Oswego County to the Pennsylvania border and Broome County.
Tenney, of New Hartford, lost a conservative challenge to Hanna, a three-term congressman from Oneida County, in a 2014 primary.

Tenney picked up Tea Party and conservative support in 2014 by suggesting that Hanna, one of the most independent GOP voters in Congress, was a RINO, or Republican in Name Only.

Now Tenney finds herself defending her own record in the state Assembly against an onslaught of ads from Wells and a super PAC with ties to the Oneida Indian Nation.

The Grow the Economy PAC spent about $600,000 on an independent advertising campaign against Tenney, claiming she would threaten the economic stability of the region through her divisive behavior.

The outspoken Tenney has publicly criticized Oneida Indian Nation representative Ray Halbritter, the CEO of Turning Stone Resort Casino, one of the largest employers in the congressional district with 4,500 employees.

Tenney claimed Halbritter is not an Oneida Indian and called him "Spray Tan Ray" in a 2015 tweet, which the Oneida Indian Nation labeled as racist hate speech.

Oneida Indian Nation spends $580,000 on Congress race
PAC backed by casino interests spends big against Claudia Tenney in NY's 22nd Congressional District.

Wells, the co-founder of a family food service business in Liverpool, American Food and Vending Corp., has maintained that he has the business experience to help create jobs for the region. His company employs about 1,500 people.

The company has grown into one of the nation's largest privately-owned food and beverage providers for corporate cafeterias, sports stadiums, schools and other institutions.

Wells, a Central New York native, has also emphasized his credentials as a criminal prosecutor who won more than 50 cases in Fort Worth, Texas, including murder, rape and kidnapping cases.

Wells, Tenney and Phillips all have top "A" ratings from the National Rifle Association, and all of them oppose a bill in Congress to automatically ban gun sales to those on the nation's terror watch list.

But Tenney received the NRA endorsement because she is the only candidate who has been elected to office and backed up her positions with public votes on gun issues.

Phillips, meanwhile, won the endorsement of conservative businessman Steve Forbes and the American Conservative Union, one of the nation's oldest and largest conservative groups.

Tenney immediately criticized the group after losing its support, calling the decision a "disgrace" and the ACU "part of the failed Republican establishment."

Tenney picked up the endorsement of the Conservative Party of New York, and will have the Conservative ballot line in November. She is also endorsed by national conservative groups that include Citizens United and the Family Research Council, and conservative media figures including Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham.

Wells won endorsements from the Oneida County Republican Committee, the largest in the district, and the Madison County Republican Committee, the third-largest.

On Thursday, Hanna broke from his position of neutrality in the race andendorsed Wells, saying he is the best chance for Republicans have to hold onto his seat in the November election.

Hanna said he fears Republicans will lose the 22nd District seat to Democrats in the general election if Tenney wins the primary.

"Those people who want to support Claudia need to realize that supporting her is effectively giving away the seat," Hanna told Syracuse.com. "Steve Wells can win in November."

House Democrats view the 22nd District seat as one of their top pickup opportunities nationwide this year. The race is among about 30 targeted by the Democrats and their "Red to Blue" campaign to flip seats back to their party. The June 28 election date is the latest since New York switched to holding separate federal primaries in June --“ the result of a 2011 court order that required absentee ballots to be sent to overseas and military voters at least 45 days prior to the election.

Prior to that change, the congressional primaries were held on the same date in September as New York's state and local primaries.

With the late election date this year so close to the end of school and the start of the July 4 holiday, all three candidates say they have focused efforts on absentee ballots and get-out-the-vote efforts.

Polls will be in open in all Upstate New York counties, except Erie, from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The 22nd Congressional District covers all of Cortland, Madison, Oneida and Chenango counties and part of Broome, Herkimer, Oswego and Tioga counties.

Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger says he does not see how he can support Trump. I went to NumbersUSA and he has a "D" grade on his report card with "F-" on at least one. These amnesty guys are all in for that but not all in for Americans or the nation when it comes to protecting us from these dangers and huge costs.
