Obama cancels LA trip as ‘no’ votes on Syria resolution pile up

President Obama has scrapped a planned two-day trip to Los Angeles early next week ahead of a congressional vote on a military strike against Syria.
The cancellation of the trip suggests the urgency with which Obama needs to press his case to win approval from Congress for military action.
“The president’s trip to California has been canceled,” a White House official said. “He will remain in Washington to work on the Syrian resolution before Congress.”
While prospects for passage of a resolution in the Senate look positive, the White House does not appear to have the votes in the lower chamber to win — at least not yet.
The president had been scheduled to speak to an AFL-CIO convention while in California, in what the White House had billed as a continuation of his middle class jobs tour.
He was also scheduled to attend a $32,400 per plate dinner at the home of Marta Kauffman, the co-creator of the sitcom “Friends.”

There were indications that Obama could be readying a national address to make his case for military action, which remains unpopular among lawmakers and the American public.
On Wednesday, Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) said the president should address the nation from the Oval Office before any military action and predicted Obama would do so. Secretary of State John Kerry echoed that sentiment, saying at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing he believed the president would soon address the nation on the topic.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is highlighting the restrictions of the Senate’s use-of-force resolution to drum up support for President Obama’s plan to strike Syria.
In her third public letter to her caucus this week, Pelosi emphasized that the Senate proposal, passed Wednesday by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, “addresses some of the concerns expressed by many of our House members.”
“Specifically, the resolution prevents boots on the ground, ties the authorization more closely to the use of chemical and other weapons of mass destruction, and has a limited timetable,” Pelosi wrote.
The string of letters underscores the stakes of the Syria vote for Obama and other leading Democrats, who want Congress to authorize the strikes to show humanitarian support for Syria’s civilian victims, to send a global message that chemical attacks carry serious consequences and — not least — to accentuate Obama’s power to persuade as he enters the eighth month of his second term.

Stupid ‘mericans you have to listen to the progressive elites because they know what’s best for you!

Feinstein and the rest of the DC destroyers are completely drunk on power just like the imperial emperor. She claims she knows more than we do than that would mean in order for the US to launch an attack on Syria there is an impending/ imminent threat to the US. This is the only way under the War Powers Act or international law his majesty could strike Syria. Am I reaching?

No! If what she is suggesting here is true then why aren’t Americans being warned about the threat to the US? Otherwise Feinstein like McCain, Kerry, obama etc is lying through her teeth!

Never thought I would see so many looking to start a war with very little information. Not surprising though because they support this for political position, money and power.

There was more information available when the case was being made to go into Afghanistan and Iraq that all the progressives put up one hell of a fight over. But they also have support from a majority of Americans and a coalition assembled to carry out the mission. Obama has no one supporting him to go into Syria not the people or world community; the French will only support him if Congress gives the okay!
