Obama Versus Founding Fathers on Tyranny

Obama Versus Founding Fathers on Tyranny

Written on Thursday, May 16, 2013 by Nathaniel Davidson

    In
President B. Hussein Obama’s commencement address

to the graduating class of The Ohio State University on May 5, 2013, he said something that shows his great departure from America’s principles.

“Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root
of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner.
You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, and creative, and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with
    which we can’t be trusted.”

First, what tyrant has ever claimed to be a tyrant? Indeed, if a country is called “The People’s Democratic Republic of …”, it is almost always a murderous
communist dictatorship. Similarly, thelate Margaret Thatcher pointed out about people like Obama:

“Socialists cry ëPower to the people’, and raise the clenched fist as they say it. We all know what they really meanópower over people, power to
    the State.”

Her close friend and fellow warrior for freedom, President Reagan, similarly
    coined the memorable phrase:

“The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ëI’m from the government, and I’m here to help.”
A few decades prior to Reagan, the fine free-market economist Henry Hazlett was likewise a staunch critic of big government. He pointed out that the essential nature of government is force against
unwilling citizens who are doing no wrong:

“The ëprivate sector’ of the economy is, in fact, the voluntary sector; and the ëpublic sector’ is, in fact, the coercive sector.”
    Founding fathers

Unfortunately for Obama, but fortunately for America, America’s founders were among those who “incessantly … warn that tyranny is always lurking just
    around the corner.”

    • Benjamin Franklin: “Rebellion to tyrants is Obedience to God.”

∑ George Washington: “A government is like fire, a handy servant, but a dangerous master.”
∑ James Madison: “It has been said that all Government is an evil. It would be more proper to say that the necessity of any Government is a misfortune.
This necessity however exists; and the problem to be solved is, not what form of Government is perfect, but which of the forms is least imperfect.”

∑ Thomas Jefferson: “The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the
second will not become the legalized version of the first.”

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”
“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong,
but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then.”

∑ Patrick Henry: “The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people; it is an instrument for the people to restrain the
governmentó lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”

∑ William Penn: “If we will not be governed by God, we must be governed by tyrants.”
∑ Jonathan Mayhew : “…no civil rulers are to be obeyed when they enjoin things that are inconsistent with the commands of God…. All commands running
counter to the declared will of the Supreme Legislator of heaven and earth are null and void, and therefore disobedience to them is a duty, not a crime.”

What a shock: these great leaders were so “paranoid” about the potential for government tyranny that they “incessantly” warned of it. They made sure that
America had the Second Amendment (which Obama also despises), precisely so the people could overthrow a tyrannical government. And they so distrusted
government power that they broke government into three branches, precisely so they could check and balance each other.

Our country was founded on rebellion against government tyranny

As explained in a previous Patriot column,

Happy Dependence Day: Why Washington is spinning in his grave

, many of their grievances against the British crown are even worse today. They rebelled against an unfair tax of just 2.5%, on principle. But now Obama
and the Democrats have foisted Obamacare on America, which imposes new taxes although the Dems swore solemnly
    that it wasn’t a tax.

And under Obama, the IRS has persecuted his political enemies. Oh, now they
have apologized, but that’s just not good enough! They need to reimburse costs of all conservative groups affected, and fire the liberals responsible. Yet
one of the charges against President Nixon was:

“He has, acting personally and through his subordinates and agents, endeavored to … cause, in violation of the constitutional rights of citizens, income
tax audits or other income tax investigations to be initiated or conducted in a discriminatory manner.”ó Article 2, Section 1, Articles of Impeachment.
Adopted by the House Judiciary Committee, July 29, 1974.

There was bipartisan agreement that it was wrong for a Republican (actually a RINO) president to target his political enemies. But apparently not when it’s
    a Democrat president.

    The problem is wider

Obama’s wilful ignorance of the reason our country was founded is breathtaking. But an even bigger problem is the applause he would have received.
Unfortunately for freedom lovers everywhere, state universitiesóand before that, the government school systemóindoctrinates students into the alleged sins
of the free market and the wonderful benefits of big government.

Indeed, the government school system is itself an exercise in big government: it forces people to pay for the education of other people’s kids. Yet many
Patriots send their kids into this cesspool of Democratic indoctrination and then wonder why they end up voting Democrat.

But why the surprise? The very fact of using the government schools is participating in the government theft from one’s neighbor. And it tacitly concedes
that it’s good to have the government involved in education, and that government is the expert. So why should the kids believe their parents about
conservatism when they have conceded the liberal premise: that it’s OK to use government force for one’s benefit. And why should the kids believe their
parents about history, when the parents have tacitly told their kids that the teachers are the experts?

    The solution

We must realize that the election of Obama was just the system of a much wider rot in America. Too many Americans have no clue about their own Founders or
the Constitution. And alas, too many vote for politicians on how much free stuff they promise (basically, the 51% who voted for Obama). But this is the way
they have been indoctrinated for 12 years, 30 hours per week. More and more, I’m thinking that my efforts are futile as long as the next generation is
being entrusted to the Democratic Indoctrination Wing: the Education Department and Teachers’ Unions.
