PHOENIX (AP) - The Latest on Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s planned speech in Phoenix.
12:17 p.m.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton says Phoenix police are well-prepared for the anticipated protests at a planned Donald Trump speech in Phoenix.

Stanton said he couldn’t elaborate on public safety plans but said the police department and the Secret Service are working together to ensure safety.

Trump will outline his immigration policy at the city’s convention center on Wednesday evening.

Prior rallies have drawn tense protests and even arrests. Anti-Trump protesters shut a major road down before a Trump rally in Fountain Hills earlier this year.

Stanton and other Democratic leaders held a news conference in the morning denouncing Trump and his policies. Stanton said he couldn’t say how many Phoenix officers would work the event but said he was confident they would keep the peace.

U.S. Sen. John McCain is skipping Donald Trump’s speech in Phoenix.

McCain’s campaign says he and his wife, Cindy, are taking Wednesday off at their home near Sedona.

McCain clinched a Republican primary victory Tuesday night after weeks of hard campaigning against three challengers.

McCain has said he supports his party’s nominee but hasn’t appeared with Trump during the GOP presidential nominee’s four previous Arizona visits.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey will be speaking at the Wednesday evening event in downtown Phoenix in his first appearance on the same stage as Trump. Ducey plans remarks urging fellow Republicans to rally behind Trump and oppose Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Trump plans to outline his immigration policy during his speech. He’s set to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto earlier in the day.
