Polls Reveal Voters Oppose Immigration Reform Bill

Polls Reveal Voters Oppose Immigration Reform Bill

Posted on June 12, 2013 by Dave Jolly Filed under Immigration

I’m sure most of you have seen the commercials on TV pushing the passage of the Gang-of-8 immigration reform bill. They make it look so positive and that voting for it should be a no brainer. They also tell you that over 70% of Americans favor passing the bill.

But that’s not the real story.

The Senate needs 60 votes for cloture of the bill – that is to stop debate and force an immediate vote. Some political watchdogs have identified some senators that appear to be the key swing votes.

Public Opinion Strategies decided to find out exactly how the voters in those states feel about the proposed immigration reform bill. They avoided using key words like amnesty in their polls.

One of the key questions in the polls was:

“If the bill passed, about 12 million current illegal immigrants would become permanent legal residents… The bill would also double the number of new green cards we issue to other people over the next decade, to about 22 million. Do you strongly support … or strongly oppose provisions of the bill that could add 34 million new permanent residents and workers to the United States over ten years?”

What they didn’t find was a 70% support for the bill. Instead, they found:

Arkansas – 53% strongly opposed the bill and only 9% strongly supported it. Sen. Mark Pryor (D) is considered to be a swing vote is up for re-election in 2014.

Montana – 53% strongly opposed the bill and only 11% strongly supported it. Sen John Tester (D) is another swing vote in the Senate and he was just elected to his 6 year term.

North Carolina – 42% strongly opposed the bill and only 15% strongly supported it. Sen Richard Burr (R) and Sen Kay Hagen are both considered to be swing votes. Hagen is up for re-election in 2014 and Burr in 2016.

Kentucky – 54% strongly opposed the bill and only 7% strongly support it. Sen Mitch McConnell (R) Minority Leader in the Senate is up for re-election in 2014.

According to the reports, both Ohio and Louisiana polls yielded similar results as the other four.

When you combine the immigration reform bill and Obamacare, it will bankrupt many businesses, families and our nation. There is no way that America can financially survive both plans and expect to come out of the economic slump we’ve been in since Obama took office.

The question is, how will these swing senators vote? Will they pay attention to the polls in their states, especially those that will be up for re-election next year? If you live in any of those states, contact your senators and demand that they vote no on the immigration reform bill. It will cost Americans millions of jobs that we don’t have and it will cost the nation over $3 trillion in benefits and we can’t afford that either.
