    Portland Man Faces Multiple Sex Abuse Charges

    PORTLAND, Ore. -- A Portland man is facing multiple counts of sex abuse involving a child under age 12.

    A multi-agency child abuse prevention team arrested Jose Luis Hernandez Gomez, 32, yesterday. He made his first appearance in Multnomah County Court today.

    Gomez pleaded not guilty to more than two dozen charges against him, including 23 counts of sodomy and three counts of second-degree rape.

    Court documents state the charges stem from abuse in 2005 when the victim was 6 years old. The abuse continued until the girl was 13 and she alerted school officials, the records state.

    In the probable cause statement, the suspect admits he committed at least some of the abuse.

    His bail is set at more than $10 million.

    Police would not comment on the case and called it extremely sensitive because it involves a child.
