Reid: Republicans pandering to Tea Party on immigration

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., accused Republicans of “harshness, bitterness, meanness” and of “catering to the Tea Party” in their approach to immigration policy during a conference call Monday.
As if that weren't enough, he took it one step further, implying Republicans are allowing prejudice against Hispanics to govern their policy-making.
During the conference call hosted by the Democratic National Committee to highlight GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney’s record on immigration, Reid was asked by an AP reporter if he believed there is “racism in this dynamic here.”
Reid first responded that Republicans are guilty of “mean-spirited fear-mongering.”
But just before he hung up, Reid complained that Republicans refuse to consider the DREAM Act, laud Arizona’s immigration law and are blocking the confirmation of Puerto Rican-born Mari Aponte as ambassador to El Salvador.
“I think some of what is going on here answers your question as to whether there’s some prejudice here,” Reid said.
On the eve of the Arizona primary, the DNC organized the call to highlight Romney’s support of the state’s aggressive illegal immigration law. In a debate last week, Romney said the law could be a model for the nation’s approach to illegal immigration.
The Democrats also criticized Romney for accepting endorsements from Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who both have hardline anti-illegal immigration positions.
“I can’t imagine Gov. Romney saying these things he has and these people running for president of the United States being proud of the Arizona law,” Reid said.
Reid warned that harsh immigration rhetoric backfires with voters, using his 2010 race against former Assemblywoman Sharron Angle as an example.
“How about 2010, when people all over this country saw what happened when someone like me, who had been reasonable, doing something about immigration, tried to do the right thing and they went after me with such venom,” Reid said. “That’s the only way I can describe it and it backed fired on them.”
The Romney campaign accused Democrats of using a "dishonest smear" to distract voters.
"Three years into his Presidency, Barack Obama hasn't secured our borders or done anything to improve our legal immigration system," spokesman Ryan Williams said. "As President, Mitt Romney will follow through on his commitment to secure our borders, enforce current immigration laws, and improve our legal immigration system."
Williams also accused Reid of being "two-faced" on immigration, bringing up a 1993 speech in which Reid advocated denying citizenship to children born in the United States to illegal immigrants. In 2006, Reid called that speech "the biggest mistake I ever made."

SEIU ballot fraud may have played a role in Harry Reid’s Re-Election

What’s it going to take to get a complete unbiased investigation of the alleged voter fraud in the Angle-Reid election? For sure it won’t becoming from the Eric Holder “Injustice Department.”

Can the New House of Representatives all a special prosecutor in January? Doubtfully it seems it must come from the Senate and that’s not likely to happen. Here’s how it may play in the Senate.

“Ah Senator Reid, there are allegations that you may have won your election do to vote tampering and fraud; should we start an investigation in the Senate?” Answer, “Ah Nope.”

This becomes more interesting as recent information from the Las Vegas Sun said that Harry won his hometown, Searchlight, Nevada by a whopping 3 votes. That’s right Reid 197 Angle 194.

Sharon Angle’s attorney, Cleta Mitchell has filed a complaint with the Justice Department alleging voter intimidation on behalf of the Reid campaign.
She noted in a letter to the Las Vagas Sun, that the Democrats and their cronies are up to their same old tricks, of trying to manipulate the election in hopes of skewing the results in their favor. “Harry Reid has been offering free food and, according to other reports, some Democratic allies such as teachers’ unions are offering gift cards in return for a vote for Reid.”

Attorney Mitchell said that “what Harry Reid was doing is clearly illegal.” Nevada law (NRS 293.700) provides that, “A person who bribes, offers to bribe, or use other corrupt means, directly or indirectly, to influence any elector in giving his or her vote or to deter the elector from giving it is guilty of a category D felony and shall be punished as provided in NRS 193.130.”

In a telling piece written by Carl Horowitz at the National Legal and Policy Center, Howowitz has documented that the Service Employees also may be supplying labor for Democrats in a rather insidious way.

A collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between Clark County and SEIU Local 1107 puts the union in charge of servicing all voting machines. The agreement reads as follows:

Page 75 of this agreement indicates “Voting Machine Technician” to be a classified SEIU position in Exhibit A. Although the CBA expired on June 30, 2010, it remains in force because of language in Article 43 that grants an indefinite year-to-year extension until one party deems it unworkable.

Given that SEIU Local 1107 technicians run Clark County voting machines, any glitches in the end must be the responsibility of these workers. And these glitches appear to have been more than an accident.

In late October, during early balloting, for example, a number of voters in Boulder City complained Reid’s name already was checked.

Isn’t this about the same as giving Bonnie and Clyde the keys to the bank and asking them to guard it?

According to one eyewitness, Joyce Ferrara, the problem was rampant. “Something’s not right,” she said. “One person, that’s a fluke. Two, that’s strange, several within a five-minute period of time – that’s wrong.”

Votes without voters, the notion seems like something from “The Twilight Zone.” Yet this outcome, the result of a mysterious computer glitch, may have helped re-elect Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid over his Republican challenger, Sharron Angle, by a 50.2%-44.6% margin.

Actually, the “mystery” is very likely the doing of a local of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which nationwide provides votes, money and muscle for the Democratic Party.

Critics are charging that voting machines throughout Clark County (Las Vegas), where about three-fourths of the state’s population resides, were rigged to place check marks next to Reid’s name before a person even had voted.

County officials insist that no tampering has occurred. But the possibility can’t be dismissed out of hand, especially given that one of Reid’s sons is county commission chairman.

Will voters in Nevada, as well as, the United States voters ever know that Harry Reid was elected legitimately?

Nothing smells right about Harry Reid.


His re-election on Tuesday has deepened the stench. Theories are flying left and right to explain the failure of polls that had consistently showed Sharron Angle ahead.

The New York Times points to Latinos as Reid’s hidden salvation. And not just any Latinos. It was apparently Latinos who prefer not to speak English who curiously turned out in droves for Reid.

I riffed a little bit last night on why the public polls might have been wrong in Nevada; I speculated, for instance, that the fact that Mr. Reid is the sort of candidate whom one votes for unenthusiastically might have skewed the turnout models.

There is another theory, however, which was proposed to me last night by Matt Barreto of the polling firm Latino Decisions.

“There is one overarching reason why the polls were wrong in Nevada,” Mr. Barreto wrote in an e-mail to FiveThirtyEight. “The Latino vote.”

His firm, which conducts interviews in both English and Spanish, had found that Latino voters — somewhat against the conventional wisdom — were relatively engaged by this election and for the most part were going to vote Democratic. Mr. Barreto also found that Latino voters who prefer to speak Spanish — about 40 percent of Latino voters in California meet this description, he told me — are particularly likely to vote Democratic. Pollsters who don’t conduct bilingual interviewing at all, or who make it cumbersome for the respondent to take the poll in Spanish, may be missing these voters.

According to election-eve polling and analysis by Latino Decisions, a surveying firm, Hispanics chose Reid over Angle 90 percent to 8 percent—an astounding margin. CNN’s exit polls showed a significantly smaller spread, with Reid winning 68 percent to Angle’s 30 percent. But Latino Decisions argues that exit-polling methodology is typically inaccurate at measuring voting by Hispanics and other subgroups. The firm also contends that exit polls tend to lowball Latino turnout. Still, CNN’s figures show that Hispanics constituted 15 percent of the Nevada electorate this year, a notable increase over the last midterm cycle, in 2006, when they made up 12 percent. “Latinos certainly saved Harry Reid,” says Gary Segura, a member of Latino Decisions and a professor at Stanford University.

So, the least assimilated, non-English-speaking voters turned out for an open-borders Democrat panderer whose top priorities this lame-duck session including passing the illegal alien DREAM Act student bailout.

If only we could clone newly-elected, voter fraud-fighting Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach and send him to Searchlight.

Reid’s rescuers miraculously appeared after a concerted effort by the Left to stoke the ire of shamnesty supporters and employ illegal aliens as canvassers — not to mention the White House directive from President Obama to Latinos on Univision to “punish our enemies” for their opposition to lax immigration policies.

Reid infamously race-baited in August, taunting Hispanic conservatives as aberrations. And Reid’s non-English-speaking voting bloc surfaced after a massive push by his Purple-Shirted allies at the SEIU and other radical prog groups to get them to the polls. From October 27 on the SEIU website:

If that Pew Hispanic poll from August is still driving your analysis of the Latino vote, you might want to get up to speed: Latino Decisions’ latest tracking poll, released yesterday, shows that the number of Latino registered voters who say they are “almost certain” to show up at the polls is now 75.1% — a full 10% higher than it was four weeks ago, according to previous Latino Decisions research.
…and $5.4 million is going toward making sure it keeps climbing. Last week, a number of national and local organizations highlighted their efforts to turn out the immigrant and Latino vote. Democracia USA, the Campaign for Community Change and the We Are America Alliance, among others, combined forces to announce a $5.4 million nationwide effort. They are targeting over a million Latino, Asian and immigrant voters in twenty-three states.

No wonder they are fighting so hard to sabotage voter ID/proof-of-citizenship requirements.

It is illegal for non US citizens to vote in Federal elections. One requirement for citizenship is the ability to read and write in English.

So, why are people that only speak Spanish voting in the elections and why were there separate lines for Spanish only speakers at the Nevada voting places?

The question still remains how non-English speaking people can vote, when a requirement of citizenship is the ability to speak and read basic English. Unless illegals were voting for Reid. No it can't be!!! Dems wouldn't do that, would they!?!

What's the difference between the Republicans catering to the Teaparty and the Democrats catering to Hispanics? Double-standard Reid needs to be booted out of office. At least the Teaparty isn't defending illegal alien invaders.

I'd like to know what is mean, harsh and racist to expect our immigration laws to be adhered to. Bad enough we have to put up with Hispanic advocacy groups playing the race card but congressmen such as he attacking their own fellow Americans for wanting our laws upheld? WTH?
