Jed Udall, son of Sen. Mark Udall (D., Colo.), was arrested for heroin possession and vehicular trespassing in Colorado on Wednesday, the Daily Camera reported.

Jed Udall allegedly broke into three cars in Eldorado Springs, Colo., and was subsequently arrested by local authorities, according to the Daily Camera. Officers found heroin in Jed Udall’s pocket and charged him with a single count possession of a controlled substance.

    The Daily Camera reports:

Udall, whose full name is Jedediah Lee Fox-Udall, was arrested without incident on suspicion of four counts of first-degree trespassing and a single count possession of a controlled substance. Pelle said he was booked into the Boulder County Jail before being released.

According to Sen. Mark Udall’s website, Jed Udall lives in Eldorado Springs.

“Maggie and I are deeply distressed to learn of our son’s arrest,” Sen. Mark Udall said in a statement to the Daily Camera. “We love our son and stand with him in his commitment to getting the treatment he needs. We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family.”

Jedediah Udall (Boulder County Sheriff's Office)

Jed Udall, the 26-year-old son of Sen. Mark Udall, D-Eldorado Springs, was arrested Wednesday after Boulder County sheriff's deputies say he broke into three cars and was found with heroin in his pocket.

Residents in the 4700 block of Eldorado Springs Drive called police around noon Wednesday to report they saw Jed Udall breaking into cars, according to Sheriff Joe Pelle.

City of Boulder rangers and Boulder County deputies responded to the scene and found Udall had broken into three cars, Pelle said.

Deputies found heroin, a used syringe and a spoon on Udall, who also reportedly admitted to using heroin 48 hours prior to the incident, according to sheriff's officials.

According to an arrest report, Udall told deputies that he was looking for jumper cables because the car his friend was supposed to pick him up in had a dead battery.

One of the car owners reported $78 had been stolen, but Udall said he did not take anything from any of the cars, and the report says "no large sums of cash" were found on Udall.

Udall, whose full name is Jedediah Lee Fox-Udall, was arrested without incident on suspicion of four counts of first-degree trespassing and a single count possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

He was booked and released from the Boulder County Jail at 6:30 p.m. on $1,500 bond, and is due back in court Feb. 20.

"Maggie and I are deeply distressed to learn of our son's arrest," Sen. Mark Udall said in a statement to the Daily Camera. "We love our son and stand with him in his commitment to getting the treatment he needs. We appreciate the private space to deal with this as a family."

Alexander Garlin, a defense attorney with Garlin Driscoll LLC, said Thursday night his firm will represent Jed Udall.

"This case is yet another reminder that our younger folks are far from immune to the ravages of addiction," Garlin said. "Jed is committed to fighting his addition with everything he's got — including the total support of his family, — it's just that important.
"As with most things in life, these legal matters and Jed's recovery must be dealt with one day at a time."

Jed Udall — who lives in Eldorado Springs — also was cited by Boulder police in December after an employee at a King Soopers said Udall walked out of a store with Advil and Imodium.

According to the police report, at 5:15 p.m. Dec. 17, an employee of a King Soopers at 3600 Table Mesa Drive saw Udall on a security tape put the medication in his pockets and then walk out of the store.

The employee followed Udall out of the store and stopped Udal before contacting police. Udall wrote in his voluntary statement that he put the medication in his pocket and then went outside, but "forgot about it."

Udall was cited with theft under $50, a petty offense. He is due in court Feb. 13 in that case.

The arrest report also says Udall had two non-extraditable warrants out of North Carolina for breaking and entering, and larceny.
