    Response from Cornyn re: DREAM

    Dear Mr. xxxx:

Thank you for contacting me about the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act of 2007 (S. 774). I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this important matter.

As you may know, Senator Orrin Hatch originally introduced the DREAM Act on July 31, 2003. This legislation would allow each state to determine its residency requirements for college tuition calculation. Additionally, it would permit certain alien children who entered the United States before age sixteen and have lived here at least five years to adjust their residency status. Under this bill, these students would be eligible to apply for conditional residency upon high school graduation and permanent residency after obtaining an associates degree or trade school diploma, completing two full years in a bachelor's degree program, or serving two years in the United States military.

However, the DREAM Act does not guarantee any illegal immigrant the right to remain in the United States, and it does not grant automatic or blanket amnesty to its potential beneficiaries. Additionally, this legislation would provide no incentive and offer no benefit to anyone who illegally enters or plans to enter the United States in the future.

After reintroducing the DREAM Act at the end of the 109th Congress and receiving no action, Senator Dick Durbin reintroduced the bill as S. 774 and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 6, 2007. As a member of this panel, I will keep your views in mind as I consider S. 774.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

    Sincerely,

    JOHN CORNYN
    United States Senator

It sounds to me like it does guarantee the right or the ability to remain in the us. Also it certainly seems like an incentive to me.

It will permit anyone regardless of their current age that entered the US before age 16 going all the way back to the last amnesty in 1996 and it can be adjusted down to about age 12. It adjust their status for 6 years to legal residency and makes them eligible to apply for citizenship. You must live in the US 5 years with legal residency to apply for citizenship.

It's a path to citizenship for illegal aliens and chain migration for the illegal family too!

Do they get deported when they drop out? Nope! Does their status get revoted? Probably not. I'd have to re-read the bill.

Then where is the cut-off date?

You know if it is left out, then it implies it's indefinite.

Huh...wonder where the bill and support is for the DREUCM act? You know, the Development, Relief, and Education for Underpriveleged Citizen Minors?

How about A SINGLE ONE OF THESE BIG BUSINESS "BUDDIES" IN CONGRESS consider the poor and underpriveleged AMERICAN CHILDREN for a change?!?!?!?

GOD !#$!#$!$ I'M SICK to DEATH of this crap?!?!? When the hell is this madness going to end?!?!#?$#?$#@!

Sorry folks, HAD to get it out there....I just feel like...well...I'll just keep that to myself...but Good Christ this is so out of hand it makes me want to scream

Seriously, this has GOT to STOP or there is going to be a very violent uprising, making THIS nonsense look like a walk in the park. The government can't keep screwing the middle class, keep ignoring the voice of the citizens forever without something giving.

I can feel it brewing, just under the surface. It's gonna get bad. Someone else mentioned it, it applies here too:

Isoroku Yamamoto said of the Pearl Harbor attack: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

Indeed. The Middle Class is the sleeping giant, and when the rest of our citizens finally awake from their shiny baubles courtesy of "reality" TV and their coma-like consumerism-induced slumber, the resolve and wrath of the American People will be felt from the newest illegal alien to break our laws all the way to D.C.

I just hope it's not too late. WAKE UP MIDDLE CLASS!!! PLEASE!!

Don't ever be sorry for letting off steam here. We've all been there before and totally understand your feelings.

It does seem like we are hitting our heads against a wall sometimes, but if we stick together, we can break through. We will keep fighting everything they throw at us, (even if they do it behind closed doors) and never give up. They may think they're smart, but we are smarter!
Bless my friends and family, and God Bless America!

Here is a still-relevant analysis of the "Dream" Act from Kris Kobach from last year:
