Rick Perry Protest link and video collection here

W asked me to report to you all that the protest went well! He would like all articles and video links posted here. He is hoping that some of you can search out these links and articles and post them here. This should have been on the 6 pm news in the Charlotte, NC area, and there should also be something in the Charlotte Observer as well.

Thanks so much for your help with this! As for me, I am totally wiped out and will be heading to bed very shortly!

    Cover Story: Campaigning in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two Republican presidential hopefuls made quick trips to North Carolina on Thursday.

North Carolina has been an afterthought for the presidential campaigns during the primary season, but with the state going blue three years ago and the DNC coming to town next year Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann know there's money and votes to tap here. And they made appearances in Charlotte and Concord.

If he came here looking for a friendly audience Rick Perry didn't get it here.

"Go home Rick Perry. Don't come back."

The Texas Governor was heckled outside the SouthPark restaurant where he'd raised beaucoup bucks for his campaign.

Inside San Antonio's Restaurant there was a lot of love.

A former NC senator, Robert Pittenger, organized the $1,000 and $2,500 a plate luncheon.

"He's a conservative practical man. He's a businessman he understands what needs to be done to have a functioning government," said Pittenger.

    "I declare to you."

Since jumping into the race - announcing his candidacy in Charleston, SC just seven weeks Rick Perry has catapulted to the top in most of the opinion polls.

But he's coming under fire on things like immigration.

The Raleigh-based group Americans for Legal Immigration protested his visit Thursday upset on Perry's position giving illegal immigrants in Texas in-state tuition.

"We think it's offensive that Rick Perry not only signed that law into being but is actively promoting the law at the last two GOP debates," said William Gheen, the group's president.

Perry defends his record saying it's up to states to decide how they deal with immigration.

"The reason that states have to deal with this is because the failure of the federal government. Obviously they're not being able to secure our borders is the real issue here," said Perry.

While Perry was on the defensive, in Uptown a much different scene for his challenger Michele Bachmann.

Her campaign asked the Charlotte Chamber to host a roundtable discussion with Charlotte area business leaders.

NC Representative Ruth Samuelson was one of the 30 who attended.

"The questions were more around the impact of federal tax policy and I'd say the impact of federal legislation and what were her ideas of adjusting some of those things so these businesses could thrive," she said.

Bachmann, a favorite of the Tea Party, told a media Q and A where she stands.

"Part of the foundation will be the full repeal of Obamacare. And the full repeal of the Dodd Frank bill that does to the financial services sector what Obamacare does to the health insurance industry," Bachmann said.

Having two presidential candidates in Charlotte on the same day is a first.

South Carolina generally gets all the presidential candidates - hosting the first presidential primary in the South.

But many predict North Carolina will get more attention this go around.

"By coming in where the DNC will be in a few months I think you're putting your stake in the ground. You're willing to fight here too," said John Aneralla, former chairman of the Mecklenburg GOP.

Before her Charlotte visit, Rep. Bachmann attended a fundraiser for the state's Republican party at Troutman's, a barbecue restaurant in Concord.

Both campaigns shut out the press during events Thursday.

Media weren't allowed inside Gov. Perry's fundraiser at the SouthPark restaurant.

And the Bachmann campaign kept cameras from covering all of the business roundtable at the Chamber.
