Mitt Romney — who blasted Donald Trump during the Republican primary as a "phony" and a "fraud" — should be "ashamed" for now courting the president-elect for the secretary of State post, said Ken Langone, a GOP supporter and co-founder of Home Depot.

"Romney disgusts me," Langone told CNBC's "Squawk Box" on Friday. "What he did in the last two weeks he ought to be ashamed. Where's the self-respect?"

In March, Romney gave an unprecedented speech eviscerating candidate Trump — just four years after the 2012 GOP presidential nominee accepted Trump's endorsement.

"The horrible things you said about this man [Trump] and now you're willing to go to work [for him]?" asked Langone, who said he had once "loved" Romney, raising "a lot of money" for the former Massachusetts governor's White House bid.

Romney met with Trump twice recently about the possibility of heading the State Department, a position for which Trump loyalist and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker were also being considered.

Pondering Romney's current state of mind, Langone said in exasperation: "Where is the sense of how can I say these things and then have this man [Trump] as my boss."

Romney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Before endorsing Trump in the Republican race, Langone had supported New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and then Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

In CNBC's Friday interview, Langone also said Trump should not make a habit of pressuring companies to keep jobs in the United States, after the deal to keep a Carrier plant open in Indiana.

Langone said he respects Trump for keeping his campaign promise to save American jobs, but warned the U.S. is not a managed economy.

Well, yes, actually we are a managed economy. We have trade laws that manage international trade with respect to many items including imports and exports to protect our businesses and jobs. We have immigration laws that manage foreign entrants into our population to control non-native growth in consumption. We have a Federal Reserve System that manages interests rates, banking and monetary supply. We have a Department of Labor that manages the relationship between employers and employees including wages, unions and safety for our work force. We have a Department of Health and Human Services that manages our health and medical systems. We have a Federal Trade Commission that manages domestic trade laws and practices. We have a Department of Energy that manages energy related activities. We have EPA, FDA, OSHA, CDC, Department of Education, all of which manage businesses in our economy.

Frankly, telling a company ready to leave our country and put more Americans on the street, in unemployment lines and on food-stamps and Medicaid, not to do that or they will face consequences is the most basic fundamental management responsibility of our government, because if you do that, then you really don't need to spend as much money and time doing the rest, because if our companies stay put and grow here, they succeed because we succeed and when we succeed everything works muuch better and far closer to the way they're supposed to do so we have less of all the problems we don't want.

A President calling a US company telling them not to move their plants to foreign lands is the the most natural obligation of the President of the United States, seems to me.

Romney disgusts all of us, so does Paul Ryan, Kasich, Bush and Graham. Our hope is that Ryan will be out and Romney will not be appointed any positions on the Trump Team.

Rep. McCaul can also be added to the list of illegal alien amnesty supporting grovelers looking for a job in the Trump administration.
