Russia warns US of 'catastrophic consequences' of Syria intervention

    CSM

Russia warns US and the West that military action in Syria would be 'illegal.' But a strike on Syria may also 'play into Moscow's hands,' says one expert.

By Fred Weir, Correspondent / August 27, 2013

    Moscow

Russian leaders, increasingly convinced that the West is preparing for imminent military action in Syria, kept up a barrage of criticism Tuesday over what they claim will be an "illegal" and potentially "catastrophic" intervention into the affairs of a sovereign state.

A frustrated and increasingly despondent Moscow has already made clear that it can and will do nothing to stand in the way of Western military action against Syria, leaving it with few options beyond diplomatic sniping and rhetorical appeals to global public opinion. Russia has argued that Western nations are stampeding to judgement before all the facts are in about last week's alleged nerve gas attack in a Damascus suburb that may have killed more than 1,000 people.

Russia is also stressing that, absent a UN Security Council resolution authorizing force, any attack on Syria will be a violation of international law and a slippery slope that could lead to greater chaos in the region.

"Attempts to bypass the Security Council, to once again create artificial, unproven excuses for an armed intervention in the region are fraught with new suffering in Syria and catastrophic consequences for other countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa," Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said in a statement posted on the ministry's website Tuesday.

In another sign that military strikes could be just days away, the US cancelled a bilateral meeting scheduled for Wednesday at which mid-level US and Russian officials were to have discussed plans for the projected September Geneva-2 peace conference, at which Russia still hopes representatives of the Bashar al-Assad regime – brought to the table by Moscow – will sit down and hammer out a negotiated settlement with Syrian rebels sponsored by Washington.

"Moscow perceives Washington’s decision to postpone this meeting literally on the eve of the agreed-upon date with serious disappointment," Mr. Lukashevich said.

Georgy Mirsky, an expert with the Center for Development and Modernization with the official Institute of World Economy and International Relations, says that Russia fully expects even limited Western military action will produce unexpected complications, such as civilian casualties, and that will provide Moscow with an opening to take the lead in restarting diplomacy.

"There's nothing Russia can or should do to stop Western military intervention in Syria," he says.

"Syria isn't Libya. Battles are going on everywhere, and it will prove impossible to set up a secure zone. There is zero chance that Western forces will launch a ground war. So, it will be limited cruise missile attacks from ships; that might weaken Assad, but will not likely be decisive," he says.

"Russia can sit and watch. A propaganda war will rage, and Moscow will be able to say that we wanted peace, we were working for the Geneva-2 conference, but it didn't happen because they opted for military force instead.... As things stand, developments will play into Moscow's hands. The US will compromise itself with another war in another Arab country, and look more than ever like a neo-colonialist power. Why would Obama want this?" he says.

Russian-Ukrainian Volunteer Corps Going To Syria To Fight

    Tuesday, August 27, 2013 18:49
    (Before It's News)

This is the disturbing message left below the video on Youtube:

I call you to form volunteer Russian-Ukrainian army and help the president of Syrian Arabic Republic Bashar Asad to reestablish the constitution order. We have 72 officers in Ukraine. We can easily form a number of subdivisions. These subdivisions will solve the problem of constitution order in Syria. In return to this we ask Syrian government to give us citizenship, to give insurance to our families, and to help us to build houses in that place, where we’ll choose after the end of war. It can be Ukraine, Montenegro, Serbia or any other place. When we return after the end of war we’ll choose our living place. We made today the official statement, sent message to Syrian government, president Asad, Syrian Ambassador in Ukraine and Commander of the Black Sea Fleet of Russian Federation to help us with delivery of volunteers to Syrian Arabic Republic. I call you to do this. I must do something, that you won’t be ashamed of.

And, if that doesn’t bother you, the following excerpt is straight from the Voice of Russia, the Russian government official news website:

Plans are in the works to send a Russian-Ukrainian volunteer corps to Syria to help its leadership with the struggle against the rebels. Several thousand people have already signed up. This came in a statement from the initiator of the volunteer formation, Ukrainian intelligence veteran, Sergey Razumovsky.

“We have literally met with a squall. On all our electronic resources there are requests from people who want to join the corps, mainly from Russia, Belarus, and even Moldova,” Razumovsky says. As for citizens of Ukraine, according to him, they “react with difficulty, so far”.

    And, Rrazumovsky adds,

“…in return, the Syrian authorities can grant citizenship to volunteers, provide insurance to their (the volunteers’) families and help them find housing and take up residence after the war.”

Are the winds of war blowing our way? Is that blood I smell on the horizon? It certainly looks that way. -Lyn Leahz

Hacked e-mails reveal 'Washington approved' plan to stage Syria chemical attack

    Ryan Keller
    Government Examiner

    January 28, 2013
On Saturday, Cyber War News released a cache of e-mails allegedly hacked by someone in Malaysia from a British private defense contractor called Britam Defence.

One of the e-mails contains a discussion between Britam’s Business Development Director David Goulding and Philip Doughty, company founder. In the exchange, it’s revealed that there is a plan to unleash chemical weapons in Syria in order to blame it on the Bashar Al Assadregime to justify a direct intervention by U.S. and NATO forces in the country's civil war. The plan, thought up by the government of Qatar according to the e-mail, is “approved by Washington.”

    Phil
We’ve got a new offer. It’s about Syria again. Qataris propose an attractive deal and swear that the idea is approved by Washington.
We’ll have to deliver a CW (chemical weapon) to Homs, a Soviet origin g-shell from Libya similar to those that Assad should have.
They want us to deploy our Ukrainian personnel that should speak Russian and make a video record.
Frankly, I don’t think it’s a good idea but the sums proposed are enormous. Your opinion?
    Kind regards
    David
If this e-mail is authentic, it would confirm what has been reported in the past: that the al-Qaida connected Syrian rebels are planning to unleash chemical weapons as a false flag.

In June, Russia Today reported that Syrian rebels had acquired gas masks and chemical weapons from Libya and “allegedly plan to use it against civilians and pin the atrocity on the Bashar al-Assad regime.”

A Saudi company had further allegedly fitted 1,400 ambulances with a filtering system to protect passengers from gas and chemicals after Syrian rebels launch a chemical weapons attack using mortar rounds, all at the cost of $97,000 each. These ambulances, labeled with “Syrian People’s Relief,” would actually be carrying U.S. and NATO troops. According to Paul Joseph Watson:

The attack, which will involve the use of white phosphorus, sarin and mustard gas, will be launched on a heavily populated town near the Syria/Jordan border, possibly Daraa, after which the vehicles will pour in under the cover of humanitarian aid.

The ambulances…will operate under the guise of an aid mission to help the victims of the chemical weapons attack, but in reality are nothing short of armored personnel carriers.
A buffer zone will be created “that will lead to a NATO military intervention under the pretext of punishing Assad’s regime for the atrocity.”

In December, a video was posted online showing a member of the Syrian rebels testing chemicals on rabbits while jihadist chants go on in the background. In the video, containers labeled Tekkim are shown, which is a Turkish chemicals company. On the wall is a poster with Arabic writing on it that reads “The Almighty Wind Brigade (Kateebat A Reeh Al Sarsar),” according to the Syria Tribune.

A person wearing a lab mask then mixes chemicals in a beaker in the glass box, and we see some gas emitting from the beaker. About a minute later, the rabbits start to have random convulsions and then die. The person says: You saw what happened? This will be your fate, you infidel Alawites, I swear by ALLAH to make you die like these rabbits, one minute only after you inhale the gas.
Assad has maintained that he will not use chemical weapons in Syria’s ongoing war. It would seem unlikely that he would, considering that it would put the militaries of most of the world’s powers against him. Further, an official from within the Pentagon told NBC News that there was no evidence that Assad was planning such attacks.

Intervention in Syria is not about protecting civilians. The Assad regime is allied with the Iranian government, and by overthrowing it, the West has an advantage in an attack on the Islamic Republic.

Doomsday Rising? Syria Has Descended Into Hell, Warns Of Global Chaos WW3 Should U.S. Push Airstrike

Syria has “descended into hell,” Archbishop Mario Zenari, Apostolic Nuncio in Syria, described on Monday the situation in the country. Meanwhile, Faisal Mikdad, Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister, warned of terrible and more global chaos should the U.S. send troops or launch airstrikes to control the recent Aug. 21 savage chemical weapons attack in the Syrian capital.

Reports were rife that U.S. President Obama as well as other U.S. nation allies are gearing to launch a military strike against Syria to denounce its heavy use of chemical weapons.

But Mr Mikdad assured Syria will fight back against any individual or collective measures from the international community, hinting of doomsday and rising “chaos in the entire world.”

“There will be no international military intervention,” Mr Mikdad told AP as reported by CBS News. “If individual countries want to pursue aggressive and adventurous policies, the natural answer … would be that Syria, which has been fighting against terrorism for almost three years, will also defend itself against any international attack.”

Doomsday Rising? Syria Has ‘Descended Into Hell,’ Warns of Global Chaos WW3 Should U.S. Push Airstrike

“They will bear the responsibility for such an attack, which will result in killing thousands of innocent people, as happened in Libya, and committing criminal actions against a sovereign country,” Mr Mikdad added. “Syria will not be an easy target.”

Archbishop Zenari cautioned international leaders to be careful in finding the true perpetrators behind the chemical assault and “must do everything possible to prevent massacres like this.”
Ever since the conflict began over 2 years ago, it has been the ordinary Syrians who have been paying the price of such monstrosity. Based on estimates from the United Nations, over 100,000 people died in the crisis.

“When the sounds of war made themselves felt here in Damascus, I had the impression that Syria was starting its descent into hell,” Archbishop Zenari said. “Today, after the latest facts, we are wondering whether we have reached the bottom of this abyss.”

few days ago we did a report that a British based defence company, Britam Defence had been leaked and confidential files had been published online.Since then i have had time to start going over all the files and put together a basic draft of what is in there, who has been effected and any other important information. So here it is:Interesting Information

.In the hackers release note they made it clear they got the data from a Malaysian based server and from a chart found within this data its shocking to see that Britam is using the security of McAfee but is not implementing this on the said server which is listed as a mail server. (see pic to below)Its also clear that Britam does not practice data security very well as they have been storing user credentials, network information in unencrypted formats.Break down of each folder.

Update: Russian-Ukrainian Volunteer Corps Going To Syria To Fight (Video)

Plans are in the works to send a Russian-Ukrainian volunteer corps to Syria to help its leadership with the struggle against the rebels. Several thousand people have already signed up. This came in a statement from the initiator of the volunteer formation, Ukrainian intelligence veteran, Sergey Razumovsky.

“We have literally met with a squall. On all our electronic resources there are requests from people who want to join the corps, mainly from Russia, Belarus, and even Moldova,” Razumovsky says.
As for citizens of Ukraine, according to him, they “react with difficulty, so far”. It is not specified when the formation of the corps will be completed.
This story first broke n May when he first announced his call to arms (See video below). Since then according to this updated article from 12 days ago, thousands have volunteered. What will beinteresting is how they will get there. Perhaps smuggled in on Russia warships? Sounds like something that would happen. No doubt, once in Syria, the Russian-Ukrainian Volunteer Corps will have an impact on the fight. Possibly places they could be sent include Latakia, Aleppo, Damascus or maybe the Homs area.
Russians have a history of volunteering for battle in some foreign lands. The last time I could think of is when NATO was bombing Serbia and during the Kosovo War. Russians volunteered to fight with the Serbs. With the current situation in Maaluola, I wonder if this would boost their numbers and give the ‘corps’ a ‘holy’ cause. -Mort
