Santa Ana man accused of impersonating immigration agent

Authorities in Orange County have arrested a 26-year-old man who allegedly pretended to be a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and threatened to deport a woman if she didn't give him money.

SANTA ANA, CALIF. Authorities in Orange County have arrested a 26-year-old man who allegedly pretended to be a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent and threatened to deport a woman if she didn't give him money.

The Orange County Register reported Tuesday Santa Ana man arrested in extortion attempt, impersonating immigration agent - The Orange County Register that Luis Flores-Mendoza of Santa Ana is accused of wearing a uniform and carrying a badge and a handgun when the alleged threat was made.

Police in Placentia say Flores-Mendoza went to a restaurant last month where the victim worked and gave her a fake letter from ICE outlining a supposed immigration case against her. Police say he demanded she give her cash or he would deport her to Mexico.

Authorities say Flores-Mendoza was driving a car with police-style lights and sirens when he was arrested Saturday.

It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney.
