Federal authorities say they plan to crack down on identify theft rings that they believe are helping illegal immigrants obtain work.

Nearly 1,300 people were arrested in raids on six Swift and Co. meat-packing plants Tuesday, in the largest-ever workplace crackdown on illegal immigration.

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says people's identities were being bought or stolen so that illegal immigrants could secure jobs in the United States.
