    Sessions Amendment Coming Up Next

Senator Sessions is offering an amendment (1234) that prohibits illegals who are here today and will be on propationary status, from receiving this benefit.
I will post the results in a reply to this post when the voting is over.

This is good because if this immigration bill passes, illegals cannot get the earned income tax credit that many Americans currently get right now. At least the illegals would have to wait until they were citizens to get this tax break.

Is this the same thing as the back tax issue? That was in the bill? Or is that completely different.

No, this is not the same thing. The back taxes issue is that the illegals would have to pay the government the back taxes they owe during the time they worked here illegally.

The earned income credit is a tax credit given to low income American families who have children. They apply for this when they file their income taxes and it comes in a check to them. Usually it amounts to about $1800, sometimes more.

However, Harry Reid has proposed an amendment that clarifies the use of the earned income credit by certain people. I'm not sure what this will do to Sessions amendment, but hopefully it doesn't put too many loopholes in it.
