Thread: Spitzer - Bush Admin Protect Banks and Not Consumers

I do not defend Eliot "Give illegal aliens drivers licenses" Spitzer. However, I came across this article in the Washington Post written by Spitzer on Predatory Lending and he accuses the Bush Administration of aligning with banks that victimize consumers. This article was printed this past February 14th. One month later, Spitzer is no longer the Governor of New York. Hmm... You can read the article at the following link:

The morgage lenders have been stealing from the consumers, their scheme has backfired and is now costing them, so the Bush administration is bailing them out with taxpayer dollars. The nouveau-rich tycoons can't loose for winning with this administration watching out for them can they? The American people can't win for loosing.

It is frightening that the FBI would suddenly come up with these revelations about Spitzer's personal life when he was, in his official capacity, one of the few public officials willing to speak out against mortgage companies such as "Countrywide" which were intimately involved in the current "subprime lending" crisis, and also willing to point out our govenment's complicity in this by relaxing the previous lending rules! Of course, all of his work in this area will now be lost in the constant hype surrounding his "personal scandal".

While it's true, MW, that Spitzer supported giving NY driver's licenses to illegal aliens, it seems to be equally true that our government deliberately relaxed the rules governing the lending of money for home loans to allow banks and mortgage companies to "tap into" the large demand among illegal aliens to purchase homes. While I think the public can exert pressure to prevent the granting of driver's licenses to illegal aliens, the possibly deliberate undermining of our national banking and credit system is certainly of far greater magnitude! I think Americans have done themselves, and Eliot Spitzer, a disservice in allowing all of the attention to be focused on his one personal failing to the exclusion of his entire record as a public servant.
