I disagree with the premise that identity theft is not in league with violent crimes as a requisite for deportation when committed by an illegal immigrant. Those who have their identities stolen often suffer catastrophic personal upheaval, such as outstanding unpaid bills and denied credit. We should insist that governments used the standards of aggravated felonies AND crimes of moral turpitude, in addition to violent offenses, which are intended to automatically lead to deportation. This was Congresses' intent, that someone who does not have high character whether they actually engage in a crime considered violent is automatically subject to removal.
Identity theft is in the US code: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1028A

U.S. Code § 1028A - Aggravated identity theft

While most examples from this article may not involve illegal aliens, there is always a high number who do engage in some form of identity misuse.
