STEVE KING ENDORSES DANIEL WEBSTER FOR SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE

    by MATTHEW BOYLE
    7 Oct 2015
    Washington, DC

Rep. Steve King (R-IA), the chairman of the House’s Conservative Opportunity Society, endorsed Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL)for Speaker of the House on Wednesday evening.

King wrote in an email to his House GOP colleagues, obtained by Breitbart News, on Wednesday evening:

I have listened carefully to each of the candidates for Speaker in multiple forums and watched each of them closely over the years. I have concluded it was the right thing for me to nominate Daniel Webster for Speaker last January and it’s the right thing to support him again for Speaker. I believe he will bring a principled, member-driven approach and transform the culture of the House. Daniel has a proven track record as Speaker of the Florida House and an excellent record opposing amnesty. He is strongly pro-life, pro-marriage and pro Constitution. I hope you will join me in support of Dan for Speaker. Don’t forget he has an excellent political name.

Webster is the former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives and now has widespread support in the House GOP conference. With King’s backing and the backing of the House Freedom Caucus, among other Republicans conference-wide, Webster has a real shot at giving House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) a run for his money in the Oct. 29 House speakership elections on the floor of the House.

On Thursday, behind closed doors in the GOP conference meeting, the House GOP conference is expected to officially nominate McCarthy as the official candidate for Speaker in the Oct. 29 election. To win that nomination, McCarthy needs just 125 votes—which would constitute 50 percent of the House GOP conference plus one vote. Getting to 218—what it takes to take that nomination into a successful bid for the House Speakership—is a whole different story, and McCarthy is having serious issues wrapping up enough Republican support to get there.

Since there are 247 GOP members, that means that to get to 218, a candidate can only afford to lose 29 members. The House Freedom Caucus has well more than 30 members, and other members like King and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY)92%
throwing their weight behind Webster in the election sets up a showdown in which McCarthy seems extraordinarily unlikely to be able to coalesce 218 Republicans behind him. As many as 80 members right now, some congressional sources say—potentially more—may vote for Webster over McCarthy on the House floor.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and a third candidate alongside Webster for Speaker, told reporters on Tuesday evening that if he doesn’t get nominated by the conference he will back whoever the nominee is. That person is likely to be McCarthy.

“I’ve said very clearly that I plan to endorse and support the nominee,” Chaffetz said when Breitbart News asked him if he will be running in the Oct. 29 election depending on what happens on Thursday. “I’m trying to be that nominee but if I fall short I will endorse whoever that nominee is.”

Chaffetz, Webster, and McCarthy each spoke to and took questions from conservatives from King’s Conservative Opportunity Society, the Freedom Caucus, the House Liberty Caucus, and the House Tea Party Caucus on Tuesday evening. Several of the members who spoke afterward spoke highly of Webster, and sources close to several of the members say they are now convinced Webster is the right option for the Speakership. King backed Webster when he ran against outgoing House Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH) at the beginning of this Congress, helping convince Webster to run and championing his candidacy to 12 votes against Boehner on the floor of the House in January.

I've seen him interviewed a few times. He sounds good, so is his position on illegal immigration in tune with ours? If Steve King supports him, it probably is. What does everyone think about Webster?

Well, we have some very bad news here.

It appears our friends at NumbersUSA are giving Rep. Daniel Webster an A grade because they only use bill sponsorship and actual votes on legislation to rank incumbents in Congress with their grading system.

There is a good chance Congressman King relied on the NumbersUSA grades to make his assessment.

But at ALIPAC Rep. Dan Webster is on the Cantor List of targets to be removed from office because the following groups acknowledge he supports amnesty for illegals!

ABC News, the Orlando Sentinel, Floridians for Immigration Enforcement, Florida Immigrant Coalition, America's Voice, and Americans for Legal Immigration PAC all acknowledge that Webster...

We need to dig in on this and find out if ALIPAC and these media reports are wrong or if NumbersUSA and Congressman King are wrong about Webster and Amnesty?

I just called Congressman Dan Webster's office to politely inform them that we were interested in discussing this discrepancy between what Congressman Steve King is saying and what information we have collected and the young lady that answered the phone was very rude and dismissive. She told me it was a busy day and that nobody had time to speak with me today but I could call back some other time. But she said that in a very derisive way.

Webster endorses immigration reform — with preconditions

"U.S. Rep. Dan Webster did something he's avoided for months: speak at length about immigration reform and declare his support for an approach that would give unauthorized immigrants a pathway to citizenship."

In a confusing situation like this I think ALIPAC members need to call the offices of King and Webster and ask questions. They should then post the information to this article.

I trust Steve King but....What the hell is going on here? We need a unequivocal statement from Webster, no amnesty, illegals go home, seal the border---period.

FLORIDA REP. DAN WEBSTER COULD BE IN HOUSE SPEAKER POLE POSITION

    by JAVIER MANJARRES
    9 Oct 2015

It appears as if those conservative “wacko birds” in the U.S. House of Representatives really do have a lot of sway up in Washington, D.C.

Led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) and his House Freedom Caucus, House conservatives pushed out Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH), and after Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made that Benghazi gaffe on Hannity the other night, the caucus endorsed Rep. Dan Webster (R-FL), essentially knocking McCarthy out of the race for Speaker.

McCarthy conceded what many Republicans on Capitol Hill knew, in that he was “not the right guy” for the job.

Reps. Jason “Jason in the House” Chaffetz and the aforementioned Dan Webster are in the race, but who else will jump in?

Florida Congressman Rep. Curt Clawson (R-FL), who ran as an outsider, and has not been all that happy with his party’s leadership, is rumored to be considering the Speaker job, as is former prosecutor Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC).

Dan Webster’s chances to win the speakership will be mired by the probability that, if elected Speaker, he may only be able to serve through 2016.

Because of the new congressional redistricting that is expected to take place this year after the Republican-led Florida legislature rigged the redistricting maps in 2012, Dan Webster’s central Florida congressional district could fall into the hands of Democrats.

The district is expected to turn blue, leaving Webster out to bake in the hot Florida political sun

You don't have to be a member of the House to be Speaker of the House.

Can An Outsider Be Speaker of the House?
