If you have not called your senator please do so NOW!!! They are discussing the stimulus package between stories of football players and soldiers. Reid spoke on it briefly and McConnell did as well. Both said it needed to be pushed through quickly.

UPDATE: I just talked to a Senate Finance Committee Aid via telephone and she informed me that the Ensign Amendment failed by roll call vote in the committee markup last night!!! The Bill is now on the floor without this amendment.

I angrily told her to be prepared for an avanalche of protest.

What Ensign ammendent would have accomplished.

Sen. John Ensign has taken action in an attempt to fix the House version. In a press release, Ensign said, "As a matter of fairness to the American taxpayer and responsibility with the tax dollars they send to Washington, we should not allow the U.S. Treasury to cut a rebate check to people here illegally. It rewards illegal behavior."

Ensign’s proposal closed a loophole in the economic stimulus package by prohibiting the Internal Revenue Service from sending checks to those who do not have a valid Social Security number. If an individual’s name does not match the respective Social Security number, a rebate check would not be sent. An individual could not use an Individual Tax Identification Number to get the rebate.

NOW IS THE TIME!!!

This amendment may stop illegals getting tax rebates but it also punishes those who came here legally who are no eligible to get a social security number.

My son has lived here since he was 14 (nine years now) and due to the snail pace at which my immigration application has moved he still has no social security number. He is my dependent and I pay taxes in the same way as an american citizen does.

I feel aggrieved that due to something I have no control over and a politicians lack of understanding of who may have ITIN numbers I will not be able to get the payment for my son. It would be extremely helpful in a small way towards his tuition payments for college etc etc etc.

A reporter talking about package now. Says there are not many differences between senate and house bill. He states there is fighing going on about money.

If the stimulus package gives rebates to illegal aliens, it will stimulate illegal immigration!!!

PLEASE CALL, FAX AND EMAIL!!! Make your VOICE heard WHILE IT STILL CAN BE!!!!!

You can send this info with your return and also send send (make them sign conformation of recieving it) to SS office explaining situation.If you claim him as a dependant ,it would be your number that would be in question.just like if I move to another state,I have to change plates on car,get drivers license,pay out of state tuition,etc which is extra stuff but we have to do this to be fair to everybody.Like I have said on here before,my freinds ex is living with an illegal alien who claims his kids WHO LIVE IN MEXICO.He is a convicted felon and is currently up on three charges including assaulting my freinds ex who still lives with him.He sends nothing home to his children in mexico.He will recieve extra money in his rebate because he claims these four kids.That money has come out of the pay checks of others.They will not deprive you of your rebate but you will have to do extra to get it.

CLARIFICATION!!!

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Senator Ensign's office staffer Carmine has issued a clarification to the Senate Finance Committe's aide's statement. The Ensign Amendment regarding the illegal alien loophole IS IN THE CHAIRMAN'S BASIC TEXT LANGUAGE of the Stimulus Package Bill. Therefore, for it to fail it looks like the entire Stimulus Package Bill would have to be voted down. She said the Senate Finance Committe's staffer was likely confused because another Ensign Amendment was voted down in committee, The "Repatriations Amendment."
