    SAN LUIS, Ariz. (AP) -- A teenage boy is in federal custody after he allegedly tried to smuggle heroin hidden in his shoes across the border at San Luis south of Yuma.

    U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested the 17-year old Monday night.

    The agency says the boy is a U.S. citizen and attempted to walk through the pedestrian entrance with close to three pounds of heroin on him worth approximately $135,000 on the street.

    A news release says officers found separate packages of heroin in each of the boy's shoes.

    The boy was arrested and turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

    Customs enforcement was unable to provide a hometown or whether the teen has a lawyer.
