Thread: TRUE meaning of AMERICAN--my Brazilian friend's view

My legal resident Brazilian friend NEVER considered herself to be an American JUST because she was BORN on ONE of the AMERICAN continents. She says that it is RIDICULOUS for ANYONE to REDUCE the meaning of American to one of merely CONTINENTAL origins, and has NO use for attempts by the Latino media to depict Americans as "estadounidenses." She indicates that the United States has done MORE to LIVE UP TO what it REALLY means to BE American than ALL OTHER nations of THIS hemisphere TOGETHER! Therefore, she says that citizens of OUR country are NOT merely "US citizens," they are AMERICANS, have MORE right to be KNOWN as Americans than anyone ELSE, and EVERY right to be PROUD of BEING Americans!

Yeah, but the problem is that while you're an American with guaranteed rights, you've got the "stone" of US citizenship hanging around your neck preventing you from exercising most of those rights.

Many people don't know that you're an American by BIRTH, and US citizen by your Birth Certificate, which creates a legal fiction similar to a corporation that's ASSIGNED to you and for which you're responsible, just as you'd be responsible for a corporation that you created.

In other words, Joe American is a man entitled to inalienable rights, while JOE AMERICAN (all caps) was CREATED by the birth certificate and is a CORPORATE citizen of the UNITED STATES corporation which was created back in 1870's from District of Columbia, inc.

That's 100% correct. People wonder how the government can usurp the constitution when our rights were removed, long ago, with the Not Ratified 14th Amendment. We really should research State Citizen vs Federal Citizen.
