"Despite President Trump’s heated rhetoric against the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), a recent draft of his plans to modify the pact bears a striking resemblance to the samecorporate-friendly, TPP-like trade agenda that he claimed to oppose during his campaign.

Last week, the administration’s much-anticipated NAFTA proposal circulated through the halls of Congress, but appeared only to seek modest tweaks to what Trump once called the “worst trade deal” ever. Instead of sweeping changes to stop the offshoring of manufacturing jobs or to eliminate NAFTA’s corporate court system that’s weakening U.S. labor and environmental laws, the plan would expand protections for digital trade and commerce, strengthen intellectual property rights for corporations, and preserve NAFTA’s ban on Buy American programs."
Yes, "Trump Administration", but still Obama Stooges. I am not mistaken. It's a matter of public record when Robert Lighthizer was confirmed, May 11. It's like calling the Obama Department of Justice, "Trump Administration" with Sally Yates as the Acting Attorney General before Jeff Sessions was confirmed.

No, he said over and over and over at every Rally and Press Conference where he opened his mouth on the subject that he would renegotiate NAFTA to meet our terms or then terminate it. Under the rules of the NAFTA agreement/treaty, if you give notice to terminate, then the other countries have the right to demand the option to renegotiate to solve the issues behind the notice of termination and they have 6 months to try to resolve the differences, and work that out if possible AFTER the 90 notice. So you can't just "end NAFTA", you have to try to resolve the differences, either through a notice to renegotiate if the other countries want it, which is how Trump maneuvered with this threat of notice to terminate, but even with a notice of termination, the other countries are still entitled to the opportunity to renegotiate to resolve the differences. You save time, the way Trump did it.

Furthermore, the law that enabled NAFTA through our Congress, requires that ALL action on NAFTA be through the US Trade Representative, NOT the President. So he had to wait for the confirmation of Robert Lighthizer to COMPLY WITH THE LAW on notice to Congress concerning what he wants done with NAFTA. Lighthizer, the new US Trade Representative was confirmed 8 days ago on May 11. Lighthizer gave notice to Congress of renegotiating NAFTA 7 days later. Not sure how quick people want things done after achieving nothing in 25 years of NAFTA, but Trump got the legal notice to renegotiate NAFTA to Congress delivered within 7 days of the first day he legally could.

I thought the same thing. I voted for Trump for two reasons, and ending NAFTA was one of them. The other reason was to deport all the illegals and build the border wall so they can't get back in. I'm disappointed that neither has been achieved.

He has been pretty awesome on the economy though, and I still have faith he will achieve the other two. I truly believe he's trying, but other interests are more powerful than he expected.

And as far as renegotiating NAFTA goes, no deal would be a good deal unless Mexico and Canada buy more goods from us than what they sell us. If this can't be achieved, then I say scrap it immediately.
