Trump: I Want GOP to Be 'Home of the African-American Voter'

Trump: I Want GOP to Be 'Home of the African-American Voter'

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continued his pitch to African-American voters Saturday evening by saying that his party must "do better" with the demographic.

"The GOP is the party of Abraham Lincoln and I want our party to be the home of the African-American voter once again," Trump said to cheers from a mostly white crowd.

This latest effort marked the fourth straight rally where Trump attempted to court the voting block.

On Friday in Michigan, Trump highlighted what he said were high unemployment and poor educational opportunities and asked African-Americans "what the hell do you have to lose?" in voting for him. At that rally Trump claimed he would receive "over 95 percent" of the African-American vote if he were to have a re-election campaign in 2020.

An August NBC/Wall Street Journal poll showed the Republican nominee polling at just 1 percent among African-Americans.

Trump also seized the opportunity while in Virginia to attack the state's governor and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton supporter Terry McAuliffe for his attempts to restore the right to vote for certain felons.

"Hillary Clinton is banking on her friend Terry McAuliffe on getting thousands of violent felons to the voting booths, in an effort to cancel out the votes of both the law enforcement and crime victims," Trump said.

"They are letting people vote in your Virginia election that should not be allowed to vote," he added.

McAuliffe, a longtime friend of the Clintons, has argued that giving voting rights back to certain felons would particularly help combat disenfranchisement of African-Americans.

Reading once again from a teleprompter, Trump delivered a fairly typical stump speech for a candidate known for swerving off message. After repeating a fan favorite line about building a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico, Trump addressed skeptics of one of his core policy plans.

"Politicians think we're joking. We don't joke. This is a movement and movements don't joke," he said.

YES!! Come home to the party whose 2,000,000 volunteers risked their lives and homes in the bloodiest war ever fought by Americans to see your ancestors free. Come home to the party responsible for the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the US Constitution to establish equal rights for freed slaves and black Americans. Come home to the party responsible for Brown vs. Board of Education US Supreme Court Ruling. Come home to the party responsible for the 1866 US Civil Rights Act, the 1957 US Civil Rights Act, the 1964 US Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Come home to the party that ended segregation.

Come. Home. And help US fix our country and in the process finish the work our party was founded to do, make life in the United States for black Americans the same as it is for everyone else.

    Come. Home.

When mostly white crowds cheer when Donald Trump asks for black votes and invites you to come home to the Republican Party, this should tell you all you need to know about Donald Trump and the Republican Party and being welcomed back home. You are the reason there is a Republican Party, the Republican Party was created for you. Unlike the Democrats, Republicans never wanted to pursue your votes based on race issues or what we have done to fix things. I've posted for the past several years that this was stupid, by some standards this approach was viewed as righteous and high-brow, but it is also STUPID when the voters you care about are suffering in so many ways by the completely ass-backward policies of the Democratic Party. Trump sees this, and has so rightly and correctly decided to take it on and tell it like it is.

You know he's right. You know you are welcome in the Republican Party, you've always been, always, Republicans have been fighting for you since before our Party was founded, but never wanted political kudos for doing so, never sought it, never wanted it, never talked about it, never advertised about it, just did it. But the travesty of the alternative has been Democratic control of our inner cities and for far too many years, too many states and too many years control of our federal government, breeding a new form of slavery that is unacceptable and must be stopped and over-turned. So much time has gone by and so many lies told about Republicans, that we now have probably 2 generations of black Americans who like many Americans may not even know the truth.

This year, Donald Trump has the knowledge and the courage to tell the truth about everything including you.

    COME. HOME. AND. HELP US.

VOTE FOR DONALD J TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!
