Trump mulling ending DACA, but will make decision with 'big heart,' Pence says

As President Donald Trump considers whether to end the deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) policy that allows immigrants who were brought into the U.S. in their youth to remain in the country and obtain work permits, his vice president says that the determination is one that Trump will make with "big heart."

ABC News reported last week that the president was leaning toward terminating the program launched under President Barack Obama in 2012. DACA protects undocumented persons from deportation and provides them with a work permit if they entered the U.S. before turning 16, pay a fee and meet certain eligibility requirements.

"President Trump has said all along that he's giving very careful consideration to that issue and that when he makes it he'll make it with, as he likes to say, big heart," said Vice President Mike Pence in an exclusive interview with ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl Thursday.

Though Trump repeatedly denounced the toll undocumented immigration was taking on the American economy throughout his presidential campaign, shortly after his inauguration he seemed to indicate that his position toward younger immigrants could change.

"They shouldn't be very worried," said Trump to ABC News in January of those who have received grants of deferred action, adding, "I do have a big heart. We're going to take care of everybody."

At the time, Trump said the administration's policy would be revealed in the next "four weeks," but at the White House Thursday -- over six months after the pledge -- press secretary Sarah Sanders said a final decision on DACA still had not been made.

In Texas, where recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey are underway, Pence said that the federal and state government would be providing support, regardless of citizenship status, "to give [victims] shelter to assist them as they rebuild their lives and rebuild their families."

Asked for his message to the more than 120,000 Texas residents who are recipients of DACA, according to Department of Homeland Security estimates, Pence said, "We'll deal with these other issues as they come and the president will give careful consideration to them."

The vice president also stood firm on Trump's signature promise to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, echoing a position Trump delivered at a campaign rally in Phoenix last week -- that he would be willing to let the federal government shut down if appropriations for the wall were not included in a spending bill to fund the government.

"President Trump's made it very clear that we're gonna keep our promise to the American people," said Pence, adding, "The president's made it clear that we're going to stand firm and we're gonna build a wall and secure our border."

Oh geez, stop it with the "big heart" crap. The American people owe these people nothing, absolutely nothing. Not a thing, not a dime, not a cent, not a job, not a permit, not a seat in college, not welfare, not Medicaid, not Obamacare, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. How many have been breeding? How many phony "citizens" have they bred here in violation of US immigration law? It's all disgusting, it deserves nothing from US or our President and his "big heart". NOTHING!!! End it all, end it in full, it's illegal, it's unconstitutional, it's unfair, it's costly, it's criminal .... stop it all and stop it now. These are not "incredible kids", they are just illegal aliens in our country along with the parents who hauled them in here in violation of US immigration law. That's all they are while they are in our country illegally. When they are returned to where they belong, then you can size 'em up for good or bad or whatever. But while they're here in the US, they are only illegal aliens occupying our country in violation of US immigration law and need to be and must be deported immediately right along with every other illegal alien.

We have AMERICANS suffering like hell in Texas and Louisiana, but no one is talking about them, oh no, all the press wants to talk about is will illegal aliens get benefits from Harvey, what will the DACA's be eligible for in terms of hand-outs. It's completely disgusting. All they get is some food, water and a cot in a shelter until ICE comes to remove, detain and deport.

So Pence needs to get with the program, they will not be rebuilding their lives and families here, not in Texas, not in Louisiana, not anywhere in the US. Now get ICE down there en masse and get these people out of here.

We need to enforce immigration laws with no carve outs. They cannot fix this mess with little deals for certain groups.

Former Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz said that President Trump may grandfather those with DACA amnesty which would include those he illegally gave DACA amnesty.

I heard that interview and Chaffetz was talking about what could be done, I don't think Chaffetz has any inside information from Trump.

These people are not the responsibility of the American People, no matter how they came here, why they came here, who brought them, what their age was when they came here or what they've done since they've been here. They and their parents and smugglers and everyone involved in this are illegal aliens and criminals.

I hope he has no inside information Judy. He and others are projecting their thoughts with the hope to push the president to the dark side of an amnesty.

These families need to take responsibility. Just go home. No need to leave a thank you note at the border or wherever when they exit the nation.

This is not about the size of Donald Trump's heart. What is he? The freaking Grinch or something?

This is about the existing immigration laws he promised us all he would enforce equitably and the US Constitution, it should not and does not have a damn thing to do with how King Trump is feeling today in his heart.
