Trump plans Everett rally, protesters expected

    By - Associated Press - Tuesday, August 30, 2016

EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is returning to Washington state.

The New York businessman is scheduled to hold a rally in Everett at Xfinity Arena at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Trump last visited the state in May, when he held rallies in Spokane and Lynden.

A counter rally protesting Trump is planned before the Everett event. The city’s mayor, Ray Stephanson, and other officials are scheduled to lead a protest at 4 p.m. in Clark Park before moving to the arena to rally outside.

A recent Elway Poll showed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with a double-digit lead over Trump in Washington, 43 percent to 24 percent. The state hasn’t voted for a Republican candidate for president since 1984.

Fans, protesters gearing up for Trump visit to Everett today

POSTED 10:46 PM, AUGUST 29, 2016, BY JANET KIM, UPDATED AT 08:48AM, AUGUST 30, 2016

EVERETT, Wash. -- From the security sweep to briefing of volunteers, preparations got underway Monday for the Donald Trump rally taking place at Xfinity Arena in Everett on Tuesday.

“We’re going to be talking about our job assignments and getting the lay of the land,” said Mary Jane Olson, one of the estimated 100 volunteers for the event.

She and her husband, Bruce, say they’ve been assigned to usher in the thousands of people attending the rally.

Alex Becker drove hundreds of miles from Vancouver, Wash., Monday afternoon to try to be one of the first ones at the door.

“I know this is his last stop in the Northwest, so I wanted to come up and see him at least once before he becomes president,” said Becker.

State Sen. Doug Ericksen R-Ferndale, said lining up early isn’t a bad idea, as more tickets are being given out than the number of seats available. He said at least 13,000 tickets have been requested for an arena that will hold a maximum of 10,000 people.

“What we say is that you need to have a ticket to get in, but having a ticket doesn’t guarantee you a seat so we recommend people get here early,” said Ericksen.

Also at the arena early are opponents, who say Trump isn’t welcome in Washington.

“I think we wanted to come out here and very calmly express we don’t stand for that in Washington and Washington doesn’t stand for Trump,” said Becca Bramwell, who came to the arena with signs protesting Trump’s visit.

Expect other protests too, including one that will start at Clark Park and another being planned by Pride Festival organizers. However, Trump supporters say that’s too bad, since his visit should tell the people of Washington how important he considers the state.

“He could go any place he wants. There are other states more important places than Washington state, but I think that he’s really telling us, ‘you deserve recognition’,” said Olson.

For safety reasons, all the roads surrounding the Xfinity Arena -- where Trump will be holding a rally -- will be shut down, including a stretch of Broadway, a main artery in Everett.

Starting Tuesday morning, no cars will be allowed to park along the streets surrounding the arena and road closures are expected to start midday.

More of the "it's all about me and what I think" DemoQuackery that has bankrupted our nation and impoverished our citizens.

Becca, you speak for yourself. You don't speak for the state of Washington. Your protests are interfering dramatically with our political process of free elections. No one attending a Trump Rally should have to concern themselves with blocked roads, heckles, threats of violence, insults, shouting or anything else.

You have the right to protest our government, not candidates and most certainly not their supporters or other fellow citizens who want to hear and see a Presidential candidate or any other candidate running for office. Once they're in office, protest away, but until then, they're a citizen with a right to speak their mind in peace and safety just as their fellow citizens have the right to hear and see them in peace and safety.

Your actions to intimidate voters are truly anti-American, distasteful and harmful to our system of free elections.

Just goes to show he will go to about any state, not just the swing states. He is so driven obviously. Impressive.

Yes, just like he went to Connecticut!! Trump is for everyone, all citizens, all states. He is also the dearest and hardest working candidate I've ever seen. I can barely keep up with his schedule even when he doesn't have Rallies planned, he'll be in 2 states and will have been with 5 or 6 different groups at different meetings all over the place.

Trump will be such a fantastic hard working President of the United States.

VOTE FOR A HARD WORKING PRESIDENT!!

VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO CARE FOR ALL CITIZENS AND ALL STATES!!

VOTE FOR DONALD J TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!!

Free tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis through the Washington State Republican Party’s website. People are already lining up to get in.

Dave Jenkins, a maintenance supervisor from Granite Falls, says he registered to vote for the first time this year at the age of 62 because of Trump.

Jenkins said Trump would build up the military so the world fears America again. “Now they laugh at us,” he said.

Diane Jenkins, his wife, said she trusts Trump to get control of illegal immigration. “He is the man who has the cajones to do the job,” she said.

But Diane Jenkins said she didn’t agree with all of Trump’s immigration rhetoric or proposals, such as his “deportation force.”

“They’re families,” she said of the millions of undocumented workers in the U.S. “You can’t just take people and throw them out.”

She said immigrants and their families should have a path to legal status — even though Trump attacked his GOP rivals for such so-called amnesty plans during the primaries.

What’s it like to support Donald Trump in Washington state?

Ask Ryan Leenders, 30, a member of the International Association of Machinists, who grew up a Democrat in a single-parent household. By age 12 he had set up a nice neighborhood business mowing and edging lawns for $20 a pop. He voted for Obama eight years ago. Now he’s an ardent Trump supporter.

“Regardless of the picture they’re painting of him,” says Leenders about Trump, in an interview earlier this year, “he’d be a labor-first president.”

    Update, 7:10 a.m.

Donald Trump is coming to Washington today for the second time during his campaign. The Republican presidential nominee is holding a rally in Everett before flying to Phoenix to give a speech Wednesday about immigration. Trump was last here in May, holding rallies in Spokane and Lynden, Whatcom County.

Where there is a Trump rally, there usually is a counter rally. Everett’s mayor Ray Stephanson and other elected officials and labor and community leaders are leading the “No Hate in Our State” rally. The rally is at 4 p.m. in Clark Park, and will move to Xfinity Arena at 7 p.m., where demonstrators will protest outside where Trump is to speak.

Traffic in the region could be snarled by Trump’s motorcade. It’ll be escorted by the Secret Service, which doesn’t reveal travel plans.

But some people near the Xfinity Arena are not protesting nor supporting the Republican presidential nominee on Tuesday. Some people are just looking on.

Brian Sweed, 31, was eating with his 3-year-old daughter outside a nearby restaurant, when he said he brought her up from Seattle, where he works at Pike Place Market, to “see the show.”

“It’s like a circus,” he said, shaking his head.

Sweed, who’s black, said he wished there were Black Lives Matter activists on the scene.

“Trump supporters are out here worried about Hillary Clinton’s emails when we have people dying in the streets, starving, homeless people, and they don’t have anything to say about that,” he said.

Gilma Vasquez, 48, eyed the crowd dubiously from the doorway of her Mexican and Salvadoran restaurant, which specializes in pupusas.

Vasquez, originally from El Salvador, is a U.S. citizen, so she isn’t afraid of being deported. But she said some of her friends are worried about what might happen to them if Trump becomes president.

“They say he’s evil and if he wins everybody is going to be kicked out of the country,” she said. She’s not wild about Clinton either, however, and said she hasn’t decided who to support in the election.

    Update, 3:50 p.m.

Steven and Eugenia Canner met in the Philippines, used “proper channels for her to immigrate.

The mood among people waiting in line for Donald Trump’s rally in Everett on Tuesday afternoon was mixed.

Some Trump supporters chuckled over buttons for sale with slogans such as “Chicks Dig The Donald” and “Life’s A B***h, Don’t Vote For One.”

Others angrily booed two women who walked past holding signs that said: “No White Supremacy In The White House.”

Steven and Eugenia Canner of Everett, who met in her native Philippines decades ago when he was deployed there with the Marines, said they’re frustrated with the direction the country is going.

They said they went through the “proper channels” when Eugenia immigrated to the U.S. and then worked hard to support themselves, contrasting that with immigrants without documents and refugees who “get all that special stuff from the government.”

Now retired, rent just went up and they’re struggling to get by.

    Update, 3:25 p.m.

Immigration is a top issue for these Trump supporters.

Kim Walker, a 30-year-old from Redmond who makes figure-skating dresses for a living, said she supports Donald Trump because Trump has promised to “get a handle on immigration” by building a wall along the border with Mexico.

Walker said she doesn’t believe that Trump is racist or sexist, despite his many inflammatory statements. The real-estate tycoon has hired people of all races and religions, she said.

“I like what he’s saying and how he says it, how he rubs people the wrong way,” Walker said. “People need to get a thicker skin.”

Alex Bolt, a 25-year-old from Everett who runs a cleaning company, sees things differently. He walked past the line for the rally blasting the rap song “F*** Donald Trump” from his cell phone and a portable speaker.

Bolt said Trump’s supporters aren’t friendly towards people of color, like himself. He said seeing so many Trump supporters in his city makes him feel “upset, hurt and emotional.”

“Someone looked at me and said, “This guy doesn’t like white people.’ My mom is white,” he said. “Every person I’ve spoken to who supports Trump has a problem with people of color.”

Near the front of the line, Helen Miller of Bremerton, said she’s an immigrant herself. Miller declined to share her age but said she made her way to the U.S. long ago “through the front door,” drawing a distinction between herself and undocumented immigrants.

Miller said the country has changed too much in recent years. Rather than declare that “Black Lives Matter,” she said “Black Robes Matter,” explaining that she worries about Hillary Clinton appointing left-wing justices to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Donald Trump: Democratic Party, ‘Party of Slavery,’ and ‘Jim Crow’

    by ALEX SWOYER
    31 Aug 2016
    Washington, DC

Donald Trump says the Democratic Party is the “party of slavery” and the “party of Jim Crow.”

During a campaign rally in Everett, Washington, Trump declared, “The Republican Party is the party of Abraham Lincoln. Not bad.” The Republican nominee, speaking to roughly 10,000 people, added, “It’s also the party of freedom, equality and opportunity.”

“It is the Democratic Party that is the party of slavery, the party of Jim Crow and the party of opposition,” Trump jabbed.

The New Yorker, continuing his appeal to minority voters, stated, “Tonight, I am asking for the vote of every African American and Hispanic citizen in this country who wants to see a better future.”

Donald Trump: Democratic Party, ‘Party of Slavery,’ and ‘Jim Crow’
That is so true!! And Democrats give credit to themselves for passing the US Civil Rights Acts of 1964 - 1968, but those are Republican written acts, acts the Republicans pushed relentlessly for 100 years and who were they pushing against every single year? DEMOCRATS.

Also, Republicans supported these acts at much higher voting ratios than Democrats. Republicans supported the US Civil Rights Act of 1964 with over 80% of its members supporting it versus only less than 55% of Democrats. And why did Democrats eventually change their ways and decide to support these acts? Well, for the black votes. It was NOT to end inequality, because they still hadn't enforced the Brown versus Board of Education US Supreme Court Ruling to end segregation. OH NO, they didn't do that, Richard Nixon, a Republican did that in 1974, almost 10 years AFTER the US Civil Rights Act of 1964.

And no one wants to talk about the US Civil Rights Act of 1957 passed by Republicans under Eisenhower, a Republican, and the reason Democrats never want to talk about THAT is because while Republicans got it passed, Democrats gutted major portions of it, AND their then US Senator John F Kennedy voted against it!! Then he's their candidate for President 3 years later in 1960.

So credit for civil rights legislation in the United States for the past 150 years has been falsely and erroneously given to Democrats when they did everything within their power to keep black Americans down. And the only reason they supported the 1964 US Civil Rights Act is because it included "sex" (women) and "ethnic origin" (Latinos).
