Grayson County needs to follow Sheriff Joe's example

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has the answer.

We don't need a new jail. Sheriff Joe Arpaio, sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz., has been housing hundreds of prisoners in his Tent City. Opened in 1993 on Aug. 3, when the temperature was 110 degrees, Tent City is still going strong.

Today, there are about 2,000 men and women living in Korean War tents that Sheriff Joe received free from the U.S. military. Inmates sleep in bunk beds, twenty to a tent. They have full access to showers and port-a-johns. If prisoners complain about the heat or cold, Sheriff Joe says, "Well, if you don't like it, then don't come back. Our military men and women fighting for you in Iraq and Afghanistan live in tents hotter than these ... so shut your mouths and quit complaining."

Sheriff Joe also has male and female chain gangs that work on county and city projects and save taxpayers money. Prisoners wear black and white prison chain gang uniforms and pink underwear. They get two meals a day, no coffee, no pornographic magazines, no smoking, and no weightlifting equipment.

Sheriff Joe has jail meals down to 20 cents a serving and charges inmates for them. Way to go, Sheriff Joe. If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less crime and taxpayers wouldn't be footing the bill by increased property taxes. For more information: www.sheriffjoe.org.

Let's suggest a Tent City instead of a new jail.
