UFW pushing AGjobs Again! Haven't they learned?
It's time for action, not just words on immigration reform
Immigration reform is in the news. In President Bush’s Tuesday night State of the Union Address he said, "America's immigration system is also outdated -- unsuited to the needs of our economy and to the values of our country. We should not be content with laws that punish hardworking people who want only to provide for their families, and deny businesses willing workers?â€

This is being driven by Agribusiness concerns that keep whining how badly they need workers. Yesterday I attended an Agricultural Exposition in my local area. There is a mechanical device available for nearly any process on a farm--and the labor force can be significantly and permanently reduced. This includes harvesting of so-called "easily damaged' produce.
If a small farming business cannot afford the large machines they could probably even build their own; the concepts are relatively simple. Profit goes up when labor costs go down. There are companies that even rent harvesting machines.
What they need to do is rigorously examine how much labor goes to what operations--and then calculate how much they willl save when they invest in equipment."Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David
