Most Republicans have philosophical differences with most Democrats on several issues. Although not all Republicans agree on everything, most agree government is going in the wrong direction.
» The Constitution: The federal government must be limited as the Constitution states. New rights (privacy, abortion) should be enunciated in amendments to the Constitution, not in judicial decisions. Judges must strictly follow the Constitution and not amend it from the bench.
» Government: The federal government has become too large and is seizing powers that are outside the Constitution. Big government is the source of problems, not the solution.
» Spending: Our ever-increasing borrowing and deficit spending will bankrupt the nation (if it hasn't already done so). We must cut back on government spending, rather than spending and borrowing more than we cannot ever hope to repay.
» Taxes: Lowering individual taxes stimulates economic growth and creates jobs. Taxing business income kills jobs.
» Voting Rights: Every citizen must be allowed to vote. Only citizens should register to vote, and those voting should present appropriate identification.
» Illegal Immigration: The borders must be secured. Federal law denying illegals jobs must be enforced. Other than emergency services, social services should be denied to anyone here illegally. It would be to unfair to legal aliens should citizenship be granted to illegals.
» Language: Immigrants must learn and use English. Our society is a melting pot, not a collection of groups isolated by different languages.
There are significant philosophical differences -- possibly irreconcilable ones -- between the two parties. Where compromises are possible, let's find them. But let's not demonize those who disagree with us merely because they do not agree with our philosophies.
Bottom line: If we cannot work together to reverse current trends, Republicans believe our children and grandchildren will suffer crushing debt, higher taxes and liberty-ending regulations.
