Why Limit Reparations to Blacks, Native Americans?

    By John W. Lillpop

In his drive to lock up the black and Native American voting blocs for November, Barack Obama recently advised people in those groups that they deserve much more than words of apology.

The candidate did so by saying, in part, "I consistently believe that.... the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds."

    Story*

To those not yet conversant in Obamaease, "deeds" means cold hard cash, as in reparations.

Given Obama's overwhelming generosity when it comes to giving away other people's treasure, one wonders why he limited his socialist scheme to blacks and native Americans?

After all, there must be tens of millions of reparations-worthy folk who could be tempted to Vote Obama, provided that the right financial incentives were on the table.

For example, what about Mexicans, both those living here and in Mexico?

Angry white folks stole land rightfully belonging to Mexico more than 150 years ago. Never mind that Mexicans stole the land from Native Americans, the fact is that angry whites conquered the land, established English as the native tongue, and treated Mexicans so poorly that only about 40 million or so have even bothered to come back as illegal aliens!

The devastation to the self-esteem of Mexicans has been enormous.

Think about it: If the "manifest destiny" pursued by white dudes had petered out, say, in Ohio, today the nation of Mexico would be the technology, financial, military, and cultural capitol of the world.

As it is, because land-hungry Caucasians marched relentlessly from sea to shining sea, Mexico has been relegated to a third-world player known mostly for exporting illiterate peasants and salmonella-tainted peppers!

The utter humiliation of being recognized as a Mexican in today's high-technology, sophisticated world should entitle all persons so victimized to free education, health care, housing, and food, or roughly the equivalent of the McCain-Kennedy amnesty debacle from last summer, courtesy of American taxpayers, of course.

Team Obama has recently committed $20 million in campaign funds to reach out to Latino voters. A far more effective and less expensive (for Obama) alternative would be to promise reparations for all Mexicans on both sides of the border!

    Then we have the British.

Yes, I know the Brits are wonky, imperialist Caucasians themselves.

However, in the interest of fairness, Obama should consider the irreparable damage done to the British Empire by that band of angry white men in the 1770s.

You know, Barack, those American rebels who mucked up the world with radical concepts like independence, democracy, freedom, equality, and other contemptuous notions aimed squarely at British Royalty.

Losing their American colony to folks like George Washington, Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson and other American scalawags devastated the British and eventually cost royalty its preeminence around the globe.

Therefore, Americans must be held accountable for ripping off King George III and the kings and queens that followed. No less than a few trillion dollars should be committed in reparations to the Queen, her mum, and all British subjects deemed reparations-worthy by the ACLU and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.

Finally, in the unlikely event that there is a single dime that has not been shipped off to compensate those who have suffered real or imagined abuse at the hands of angry white Americans, Team Obama could look into reparations for the original African ancestors of notable Americans like Oprah Winfrey, Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson, Barry Bonds, and other superstars in the NBA, the NFL and major league baseball.

Africa has seen many of its talented sons and daughters exploited in order to entertain rich white Americans while devastating Africa's professional basketball, golf, baseball, football, acting, and music industries.

For those crimes, someone should pay. And according to Barack Obama, that "someone" should be American taxpayers!

For the past few years I have thought reparations are meaningless in many ways and should end. There are many blacks that simply don't care about getting reparations despite being descendants of slaves. I have black friend who grew up in the South and he and his family don't feel the need for reperations they do acknowledge the injustices of slavery but feel reperations aren't need because they didn't experience it. Ann Coulter has discussed the fact that people in African countries have practied slavery and still continue today. Reparations that Native Americans continue to receive really bugs me. Sure there were injusitces against Native Americans but after a few hundred years it is meaningless to give Native American communties special treatment and allow them to have casinos. Historical evidence and oral histories have proved that tribes and groups fighting each other for land occured prior to Europeans coming over and the fights did continue afterwards. Native American committed injustices to each other so why should their descendants be labeled as victims today. Giving reperations to Mexicans also makes mad because of the Aztlan crap and Mexico losing the Mexican-American war. Maybe the descendants of the poor whites who fought in the Civil War should recieve reparation. Maybe the descendants of European and Asian indentured servants should recieve reperations. If study history you find that each culture is never the villian or victim. The American citizens suffering from illegal immigration are victims. There are people who have been negatively effected by affirmative action. Reperations and affirmitave action need to end. I'm Hispanic and am against affirmative action and I have known people who have many educational merits and accomplishments that can't attend the colleges they want to and have trouble finding ways to pay for school because they aren't minorities. I feel that race should not be merit for obtaining a college education or gaining a career. People should be judged on their intelligence and skills in educational system when applying to college and maintaining careers and businesses. Obama is vicitming the American people.

100% agree with that. I understood the need in the beginning for affirmative action, but it's not necessary anymore. My own daughter was denied help with college based solely on her race.....she's not a minority. The one and only reason.

I know they had to break the mold with people who only hired friends and family and never gave anyone else a chance to work. (Even though it's alive and well and rampent in Illinois to this day.) For a long time you couldn't get a job in a place where any family member worked and some still don't want to hire you if your "friends" with someone who works there. I understand the basics behind it, but add them all up, depending on where you live and those limits keep alot of people out of jobs that deserve to work as well.

I went through being denied because I'm a woman, denied because I had children, denied because I was in child bearing years, denied because I'm older, denied because of race, denied because I knew people and denied when I had no connections. Denied because I didn't live in an area long enough because they were tired of the transient population......denied because I don't speak Spanish. Nothing having to do with qualifications or ability to do the job. It gets tiring applying for jobs when qualifications matter less than if your a minority or not.

I know many minorities laugh and think oh your to stupid to beat out an illerate illegal for a job. Sorry.....not when what they want are illegals or just looking for hispanics or other minorities. I know for a fact I'm qualified to do so many jobs out there but they hire someone who can't speak English or count change because they have to hire minorities. I don't mind competition but it's getting tiring having to compete with something I have no control over. If it's real equality, then let it be equal. No special considerations.

I am for giving those indians who were abused when our ancestors came to this country, multi-million dollar checks. These checks should go to EVERY INDIAN WHO SUFFERED THIS ABUSE AND IS ALIVE TODAY.

As for giving checks to those who are 8-10 generations (or more) removed from those abused, why should we, who did nothing to them, pay them anything?

The problem is that is the same for the American Indian. I use to go to the Indian Reservations in Arizona every summer to work. Nice people, however, they didn't have a whole lot of ambition. They just waited for the government check to buy their alcohol and cigarettes and some food. They sat around the corner store like you would see in an old movie.

I think the younger generation wants more, and they should get it.
