I really hate it when people say gangs have "always been a big problem in the US." This is a big fat whopper--at least in terms of what we see today regarding drug-running, drive-by shootings, gang rapes, ect. In the 70's,and before these problems were virtually unheard of. When the crack cocaine trade and meth trades came into the picture in the 80's, that's when things started to get really ugly.
