Conventional wisdom of leftists has it that our “conservative” president is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Indeed, G.W. Bush is the object of constant ridicule, mostly from liberal media and embittered Democrats still unable to accept the fact that Bush is a two-term winner.
Of course, demeaning Bush is the only option available to liberals. And it does provide a way to vent their frustrations at being unable to defeat the dyslexic cowboy from Texas whom they love to call “idiot.”
Democrats who insult G. W. Bush’s intelligence need to be careful. In other words, Howard Dean, how good are your candidates and ideas if an “idiot” can subdue them not once, but twice?
Obviously, G. W. Bush is not an idiot, or even just average. He earned an MBA from a prestigious university, and has achieved heights that the overwhelming majority of people can only wistfully dream of.
President Bush is a capable world leader who deserves the respect of people all over the globe, especially those who call themselves Americans.
Having said that, it is difficult to understand President Bush’s thought process when it comes to illegal immigration. Most distressing is Bush’s assertion that deportation of millions of illegal aliens is “impossible.”
How in the world can it be “impossible” for the most powerful and technologically advanced nation in the world to remove criminals who have invaded our nation at time of war?
Surely the greatest hope for the civilized world in the global “war on terror” is not helpless when it comes to criminals inside its own borders? Some of who are most likely terrorists?
If America really is that impotent, Osama bin Laden and other Islamofascists will see that as great news, and a source of inspiration for continuing their brutal assaults on the civilized world.
Moreover, if America is unable, or unwilling, to control who enters and who stays here, victory for terrorism and world domination by Islamic extremists are all but assured.
Is that really the message you wish to convey to the world, Mr. President?
I agree, Mr. Lillpop !! We all need to stop accepting President Bush's assertion that we cannot deport those who are in our country illegally.
We need to tell him that we believe that if we can spread freedom and Democracy to places like Iraq than we can surely control what is happening in our own country !!
We know that charging the emplyoyers and those who harbor illegal aliens will work......but that seems to be going too slow. They are not using that option which would cause illegals to self-deport. The option is there, but they are too slow and hesitant to use it.
So, let's deport them. Let's go back to the original idea of "report and deport" !!
More difficult than the job of deportation is going to be the job of getting President Bush to agree with us. Do you have any suggestions on how we can solve that ??

Bush Sr. was a member of Skull and Bones society at Yale. So was Bush Sr.'s father and son ---- that's three generations in a society rumoured to be America's most powerful secret society. All members and alumni help one another in BIG ways. Interesting enough, John Kerry was also a member. If you google the list of membership you'll be surprised at how many former members have been CEO's at oil companies, former presidents, attorneys for presidents, supreme court justices, and so on. And it's not all about brains...many were admitted because they were on the football team or rowing captains. Many were admitted due to powerful family. I'm sure no professor would fail GW.....we know his grades were not straight A's, as a matter of fact I think he had a C average and referred to himself as an "average" student. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history at Yale....woohoo! _________________ "Remember the Alamo!"

I think the point was America should be Bush's top priority. Rather than helping other countries clean house, Bush should be focused on cleaning his own house.
That might be true LadyDrake, however, we have to stand by our allies just as they are standing by us in this war on terror. Of course America should be the first priority, that doesn't mean we can afford to desert any of our Allies in their time of need. Should we allow the only other democracy in the Middle East to fend for itself against Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran? I think that would show us to be fair weather friends to the rest of the world and only appear weaker then we are. _________________ Build the dam fence post haste!

Christine Valenciana, assistant professor of elementary and bilingual education, was always aware that her mother, as a child, had been forced to return to Mexico in 1935. What Valenciana didn’t realize was that her mother was just one of up to 2 million Mexican and Mexican-Americans who were deported during that era.
“I thought what happened to her and her family was an isolated incident,” she recalled. “I had no idea that this happened on a much larger scale.”
Here, Valenciana discusses her work as it relates to the mass deportation of people, many of whom were American citizens, that was systematically practiced during the Great Depression.
Q: How did you first learn that close to 2 million Mexican and Mexican-Americans were deported to Mexico in the 1930s?
A: I was a history major at Cal State Fullerton, and one of the classes I took was a community history class. Having a Mexican background, I was interested in researching an area that had to do with Mexican-Americans. While I was trying to determine a topic, I spoke with my mother, Emilia Castaneda, about her experience as a child. That’s when I discovered that many families had been deported to Mexico in the late 1920s through the 1930s.
Even prior to this, there were “whisper” campaigns and employers were asked not to hire those suspected of being of Mexican descent. Actually, there were laws passed that “aliens” could not be hired to work. In addition, massive deportation raids were conducted throughout the country, including Orange and Los Angeles counties. An atmosphere of fear was created in the Mexican-American community.
Q: So what happened? Why were these people deported?
A: During the Great Depression, anywhere from one to two million people were deported in an effort by the government to free up jobs for those who were considered “real Americans” and rid the county governments of “the problem.” The campaign, called the Mexican Reparation, was authorized by President Herbert Hoover. Although President Franklin Roosevelt ended federal support when he took office, many state and local governments continued with their efforts.
Estimates now indicate that approximately 60 percent of the people deported were children who were born in America and others who, while of Mexican descent, were legal citizens.
If they were deported in the 30s, they can be deported today. One at a time and for the same reason.

Time For Operation Wetback II

The Center for Immigration Studies recently publicized an Immigration and Naturalization Service report [PDF] that estimated there are over 7 million illegal aliens in the United States as of the year 2000 census. The INS projected that a average of 700,000 illegal aliens entered the country every year from 1990 until 2000. Add in the years 2001 and 2002 at the same rate, and that brings the total of 7 million up to 8.4 million illegal aliens … and counting!
The INS report identified Mexico as the number one illegal alien sending country. California was the number one illegal alien destination. Both win their categories hands down.
The INS estimates that approximately one-third of the seven million illegals are living in California. Overall, approximately 4.8 million are from Mexico – that’s 68 percent — more than two-thirds of the total. Illegal immigration is a nationwide problem, but the statistical evidence of a Mexican reconquista of California is overwhelming.
So why aren’t federal immigration laws being enforced - especially in the Golden State?
And why is there still no systematic method for the public to report illegal aliens?
On VDARE.COM you can find out how to report illegal aliens in both English and Spanish. But in the internet age, the new millennium, the post-9/11 world, or whatever you want to call it, the INS still does not have any way for the public to report illegal aliens through a web site - or even through e-mail!
So much for reinventing government. Or “homeland security.”
The FBI seems to think the internet is a good way for the public to report any suspected criminal activity. Maybe American citizens should start using the web-based FBI form for reporting illegal aliens.
Calling 911 is another excellent option to make a public record of any encounters with illegal aliens.
The soon-to-be abolished INS posts telephone numbers for its field offices as the only way to report “suspected illegal aliens or suspected illegal immigration activity.”
But the new Department of Homeland Security web site does not have any information for how citizens can report illegal aliens. Instead, in its immigration and borders section, it features a link under the U.S. Border Patrol explaining - get this - “how do I report a missing person suspected of falling victim to dangers along the border?”
No telephone numbers for reporting illegal aliens in your backyard though.
So what to do about the 7 million, now 8.4 million illegal aliens? FrontPageMagazine columnist Steve Brown recently called for a new drive to deport aliens through workplace immigration enforcement on a scale of the Eisenhower administration’s Operation Wetback in 1954.
The trouble is that immigration law and the deportation system isn’t what it used to be. Just visit my DeportAliens.com for the whole story.
In the good old days under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952, with a deportation system relying on Special Inquiry Officers for hearings, the federal government was able actually to deport, voluntarily return or scare off possibly over 1 million illegal aliens from Mexico over about a year during Operation Wetback. In Texas, the federal government deported illegal aliens on trucks, busses and even by ship from South Texas to the port of Veracruz, Mexico, in 1954.
But law enforcement under the 1952 Immigration Act has given way to illegal alien “rights.” What was once a streamlined deportation system is now a federal litigation bureaucracy called the Executive Office for Immigration Review – the EOIR – spawned in 1983.
Instead of men with guns detaining and deporting people who have no legal right to be in the country, the EOIR of the new millennium offers a revolving door for detention, a deportation abyss and permanent amnesty for illegal aliens and criminal alien residents. The EOIR is not set up to actually deport illegal aliens, as I have been pointing out since 9/11.
So if the deportation system has been sabotaged with bureaucracy over the years, and there are 8.4 million illegal aliens running around, what is to keep things from getting worse?
Peter Brimelow already answered the question ten years ago in a postscript to his National Review article, “Time to Rethink Immigration?” — by quoting a Washington Post article from May 6, 1992.
"At a Cabinet meeting today, Attorney General William P. Barr said nearly one-third of the first 6,000 [Los Angeles] riot suspects arrested and processed through the court system were illegal aliens, according to a senior Administration official. Barr has not proposed any special effort to have them deported, a Justice Department spokesman said."
The answer: there’s nothing to keep things from getting worse – much worse.
It’s time for a second Operation Wetback. The first step: reform deportation procedures. And that requires getting the idea through the thick skulls of the American elite.
