I travel every day to and from work on the 605 freeway. By the sand quarries
and the river wash there are many billboards. I have noticed that it seems
more and more of them are in Spanish.
Last week I thought I noticed something strange on one of billboards. The
605 moves fast usually at that point so I went by again the next day and
verified that the CA was crossed out and replaced with MEXICO. Still not wanting to
believe my eyes, or hoping they were playing tricks on me, I went by again,
Sunday afternoon the 24th. I went home and retrieved the digital camera. I
drove north on the 605 past Ramona and there it was on the right hand side. I
pulled off the road and took this all too sad photo. I guess they don't have to
hide their intentions anymore.

If this is truly true, then this is a sad, sad day in America - Where oh where are our "Leaders"? Where is Bush? I think Mexico has drawn a line in the sand with this, clearly stating their intentions and it's about time that we took this invasion seriously - I also think we should boycott Clear Channel - again, if this is true |

What is there to say, other than let's get busy keeping America American.
My spanish is pretty poor, but I believe it says:
Tu Ciudad = Your City
Tu Equipo = Your News
An advertisement for a news channel in Spanish would be my guess. |

That is just nauseating. I have tried to forget what Spanish I learned in high school but I think the translation is correct. I know the "Your City" is correct.

| That billboard just possibly may cause Antonio Villaraigosa to lose the mayor's election, which he currently leads by a considerable margin. |

| The translation is literally. "Your City. Your Equipment." So I guess this means that you can use this channel as your equipment to take over the city. Great. |

Clear Clear Channel Outdoor Launches Multicultural Sales
and Marketing Initiative in U.S.

Fast-Growing Hispanic and African American Population
Phoenix, AZ – March 1, 2005 - Clear Channel Outdoor is expanding its focus on serving the fast
growing U.S. Hispanic and African American population. Today, Clear Channel Outdoor launched
a Multicultural Sales and Marketing Initiative, leveraging the company’s presence in the nation’s
largest Hispanic and African American markets. Leading this effort are outdoor advertising veterans
Pedro (Peter) A. Milián Jr., who is Vice President Hispanic Sales and Marketing, and Tony Dailey
Vice President of Multicultural Sales and Marketing.
“Outdoor advertising is one of the strongest media formats advertisers can use to target the fastgrowing
Hispanic and African American population, said Rocky Sisson, Executive Vice President
of Sales & Marketing for Clear Channel Outdoor. “All Americans are spending more time out-ofhome
every day and the combination of radio and outdoor advertising is a proven and effective way
to reach them as in-home-media continues to fragment.
Clear Channel Outdoor has a presence in and offers advertising products and services in 9 of the
top-10 largest Hispanic and African American markets. The number of Hispanics in the country
has surged nearly 60% since 1990 to 35.3 million, according to recently released Census data.
Clear Channel Outdoor Launches Multicultural Sales & Marketing Initiative Page 2 of 2
African Americans, with a population of over 34 million make up 30% of the total US population
and are projected to grow at twice the rate of the rest of the population in the next 50 years.
“Companies are realizing that one of the best ways to grow their business is to target the Hispanic
Market, commented Peter Milián. “Clear Channel Outdoor is strategically positioned to help
companies increase their market share and build loyalty in this highly brand conscious market
segment.
Tony Dailey added, “The continuing growth and influence of the African American market creates
opportunities for savvy marketers. Outdoor advertising works and we are providing a compelling
value proposition to advertisers who wish to reach this important segment.
Peter Milián has been with Clear Channel Outdoor for ten years and has been successful in leading
the Company’s Hispanic marketing and sales initiatives in Miami, Florida. Tony Dailey has held
various positions in the company for the past 13 years. Based in Chicago, Illinois, Dailey has
significantly expanded the company’s African American marketing and sales in this market over the
past few years.

I dont understand these numbers. African Americans only make up 12.5% of the population and Hispanics make up 13% of the pop as of the 2000 census.

According to my Spanish dictionary, "equipo" translates to team. And from my college Spanish -- a number of years ago -- it's
Los Angeles, Mexico
News 62
12pm and 9pm
Your City. Your Team.

| Is that the Los Angeles skyline behind them? If so, what is the Angel of Independence Monument from Mexico City doing there? I've forwarded your message to some folks in California for their input. This billboard looks like an advertisement for a new Spanish language news channel. If it is, this outrageous billboard ought to generate massive publicity for them. |

The correct translation is "it's your city, it's your team". It is just a commercial sign with a commercial intent but it is a bit insensitive.
My family is bilingual English Spanish. I was on the telephone complaining to the Relaciones about the Guia Migrante and my inability to do day job work in Mexico when I visit there on a visitors visa. I had tried that twenty years ago and was warned by an agent to cease or be arrested. |

Here's some of the "programming" KRCA-TV Channel 62 offers. After reading about this, it's no wonder about the billboard. The goal is blatantly obvious. No covert operations here.

6250, "WIN THE GREEN"
The absurdity of Reality TV continues to grow...
A Spanish-language TV show in the US is offering, as its top prize, help from immigration lawyers to gain a green card residency permit. The TV show Gana la Verde (Win the Green) started last month on the KRCA-TV Channel 62 in Los Angeles.
Contestants have to perform stunts that include swallowing tequila worms, trying to catch a pig smeared in butter, and jumping between two trucks.

Very interesting. I called the station and got a man that barely speaks English. He transfered me into a voicemail with a male speaking Spanish on the message.
Let's get a number for Clear Channel Corporate.
