News roundup; Drug violence jumps the border
News roundup; Drug violence jumps the border
Good morning. It's Monday.
Border trouble: A number of newspapers, not all of them from border states, are reporting on drug-related cartel violence spilling over from Mexico. The New York Times reports that U.S. law enforcement officials have identified 230 cities, including Anchorage, Atlanta, Boston and Billings, Mont., where Mexican cartels and their affiliates maintain drug distribution networks or supply drugs to distributors. The Los Angeles Times reports that Mexican drug cartels and their vast network of associates have branched out from narcotics trafficking to the multibillion-dollar-a-year business of illegal immigrant smuggling. The San Diego Union-Tribune writes that drug violence has reduced the number of American volunteers who spend their spring break on work projects in poor neighborhoods of Mexico's Baja region. The San Antonio Express-News writes that drug trafficking, gun smuggling and the escalating border violence will be the central topics of discussion between Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Mexican President Felipe Calderón in Mexico City this week. Likewise, The Arizona Republic, right, writes that the United States has sometimes treated its southern neighbor like an afterthought, but "Mexico's growing problems are taking center stage now as a parade of U.S. cabinet members descends on Mexico City."

Don't reward the criminal actions of millions of illegal aliens by giving them citizenship.
