Ed Weaver: Arizona immigration law is reasonable

Nothing should ever surprise us concerning modern-day liberal Democrats. They’ll politicize a war in which 54 million people are liberated — because the president was a Republican — and a flood to do political harm to that same president.

(The vast majority of the damage caused by Katrina was due to the massive flooding, not the hurricane forces themselves. That flooding was a result of the levee system in New Orleans not being upgraded; monies earmarked for such work was spent elsewhere by two Democrat governors).

Democrats have become masters at demagogue any political issue they can, by playing the race card and the class-envy card whenever.

What never ceases to take your breath away, however, is the way Democrats lie. Out-and-out, boldface telling you something that is profoundly untrue. Even worse, sadly, is the way the mainstream media almost always refuses to call them on those lies.

Such is the case with the new Arizona law which authorizes all police agencies within the state to detain occupants of vehicles they’ve already stopped for minor traffic infractions such as running a stop sign, a burned out directional signal, improper turn, whatever, if they have reason to suspect those subjects may be in this country illegally.

Nervousness, little or no English spoken, inability in answer simple questions put to them in Spanish, are some of the eyebrow-raisers.

Once it’s determined that the subjects are indeed illegal aliens, the Arizona police DO NOT have the authority to take the illegals to the jail of their (cops’) jurisdiction; they are instead turned over to ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) officials.

Democrats, President Barack Obama prominently among them — have mischaracterized the Arizona law, painting a bogus picture of Arizona cops stopping a car merely because it contains four or five Hispanics with unkempt hair and stained T-shirts. This is categorically untrue and Obama either knows that or should know it.

Obama termed the legislation “misguidedâ€
