Did Obama support release of the Lockerbie bomber?

The evidence seems to be increasing that the US may have done so despite Obama's public comments.

From the Examiner comes the following.... http://tinyurl.com/2u3wqz3

The Obamaite that intervened was Richard LeBaron, deputy head of the US embassy in London, a week before Megrahi was freed in August last year. LeBaron's letter to the Scottish First Minister stated that the US wanted Megrahi to remain imprisoned in view of the nature of the crime. The note added:

Nevertheless, if Scottish authorities come to the conclusion that Megrahi must be released from Scottish custody, the US position is that conditional release on compassionate grounds would be a far preferable alternative to prisoner transfer, which we strongly oppose."

Essential Obama out of one corner of his mouth bashes the Brits and Scots for letting the bomber go for oil money and out of the other corner says "kick the bum out and don't forget to send me my share of the Libyan payoff!"
