    Arizona Anti-Immigration Group Seeks National Arena

    A group that spearheaded an effort to get an immigration law that denies some public benefits to illegal immigrants passed in Arizona has formed a national organization to get such measures passed in other states.

    The purpose of Protect America Now is to help groups achieve success like Protect Arizona Now in getting measures like Proposition 200 enacted in their states, as well as get anti-illegal-immigration laws enforced, said the groups’ founder Kathy McKee.

    “Our great challenge is to wake up America and educate Americans to what viable options they have to save our country from an unresponsive-if not outright corrupt-government that is allowing this massive invasion of our country,� McKee said in a prepared statement. “Then we’ll help citizens do the right things the right way.�

    The law in Arizona requires proof of citizenship to register to vote and proof of immigration status to receive some types of government services. Government workers face a $750 fine and up to four months in jail for failing to report when people illegally apply for government aid.
