No link, but sounding a heads up, even worse than Amnesty, is the nonsensical hate crmes bill. I have read some stuff about it, and its pretty nasty, this board will be monitored, the internet, FEINSTEIN wants it to SHUT DOWN DEBATE ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, and they are SERIOUS. Send a hundred people to federal prison for talking about illegal immigrant latrinos, it is comming.

Amnesty in a recession will not succeed, as long as they are pressured not to pass it, but they want to ban free speech, and its on our doorstep!

Just a heads up. I see no postings anywhere on this issue, and its a major issue!!

Arizonablues, thank you. Please post anything else that you find out about this bill.

I am wondering if there is anything about it on C-Span and/or Senate.org.

H.R. 1913: Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009

Received by the Senate from the House of Representatives on April 30, 2009, after being passed by the House 249-175 (see below). Referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary. This bill had 120 co-sponsors in the House.

U.S. House passes "hate crime" bill that Bush opposed
Wed Apr 29, 2009 10:57pm BST
By Thomas Ferraro

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Democratic-led U.S. House of Representatives Wednesday approved an expansion of federal "hate crime" laws -- an effort that former Republican President George W. Bush had opposed.

On a vote of 249-175, the House passed and sent to the Senate a bill backed by the new Democratic White House to broaden such laws by classifying as "hate crimes" those attacks based on a victim's sexual orientation, gender identity or mental or physical disability.

The current law, enacted four decades ago, limits federal jurisdiction over hate crimes to assaults based on race, color, religion or national origin.

The bill would lift a requirement that a victim had to be attacked while engaged in a federally protected activity, like attending school, for it to be a federal hate crime.

House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer urged passage of the Federal Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009.

"Hate crimes motivated by race, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, and identity or disability not only injure individual victims, but also terrorize entire segments of our population and tear at our nation's social fabric," Hoyer said.

Bush had helped stop such a bill in the last Congress, arguing existing state and federal laws were adequate. But President Barack Obama asked Congress to send it to him to sign into law.

"I urge members on both sides of the aisle to act on this important civil rights issue by passing this legislation to protect all of our citizens from violent acts of intolerance," Obama said in a statement before the vote.

Conviction of a hate crime carries stepped up punishment, above and beyond that meted out for the attack. The bill would allow the federal government to help state and local authorities investigate hate crimes.

Representative Lamar Smith, ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, helped lead the charge against the bill, arguing it was misdirected and discriminatory.

"All violent crimes must be vigorously prosecuted," Smith said. "Unfortunately, this bill undermines one of the most basic principles of our criminal justice system -- 'equal justice for all.'"

"Justice will now depend on the race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other protected status of the victim," Smith said. "It will allow different penalties to be imposed for the same crime."

Earlier this year, Congress passed two other major bills derailed during the Bush administration.

One, vetoed by Bush, would have expanded a federal health insurance program for children. The other, blocked by Bush's fellow Republicans in the Senate, would have reversed a U.S. Supreme Court ruling to make it easier to sue for discrimination in the workplace.

With Democrats having won the White House and expanded their control of Congress in the 2008 election, both measures were among the party's top 2009 legislative priorities. And they became among the first bills Obama signed into law.

I saw a political cartoon in a newspaper a while back that depicted a hospital room with two beds,in one bed was an 11 year old girl who had been violently raped,in the other bed was a ''hate crime victim''.Can you take a wild guess whose bed was surrounded by a horde of rabid reporters replete with cameras Question

You could take that from REAL life stories. We need to get on this, I think most people have cell phones, or skype, I have been rabid with calling on skype, I have my talking points ready, and hit them, because it costs nothing.

Please read up on this law at www.vdare.com when they open the site up again. Free speech is endangered, but you don't get that from all the noise.

They want to pass a 'hate crime' bill, but won't enforce the border laws. They are already criminals.

A-G Holder: No Hate Crime Protection for White Christians or Servicemen

Posted By Patrick Cleburne On 26 June 2009 @ 5:46 In General | Comments Disabled

While Google Alert produces scores of items on yesterday’s Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on the S.909, the Hate Crime Bill, only a few go beyond summarizing Attorney General Eric Holder’s submission to give even a cursory account of what was said in opposition.

So once again we are reliant on the invaluable service supplied by the Rev Ted Pike (sign up at the top of his web site for his email alerts)

LEAHY’S HATE BILL HEARING A SHAM 26 June 09 reports:

Today Sen. Patrick Leahy delivered on his promise to hold a federal hate bill hearing. Yet it was meant to only further his agenda, strongly slanted against opponents of the hate bill.

Attorney Gen. Eric Holder and three other hate bill witnesses chosen by Leahy had a four-to-two advantage over opponents of S. 909…Leahy’s time restrictions (little more than two hours) forced these outnumbered patriots, led by the excellent arguments of Sen. Jeff Sessions, to severely narrow their objections. An issue of such danger and complication demands at least three days of hearings, with more than just two witnesses permitted to object!

Holder’s testimony and questions lasted 75 minutes. In any normal environment his rigid and flat-footed performance would have to be deemed a disaster. As Pike notes:

Under questioning, Attorney Gen. Holder was surprisingly forthright in admitting that the hate bill is not intended to protect everyone, or even the majority. He said only historically oppressed minorities were to benefit. This means Jews, blacks, homosexuals, women, etc. Holder made it clear that if a white Christian male, including a serviceman or police officer, was the victim of a violent hate crime by any minority he would have to find redress from traditional law. He could not avail himself of the triple penalties and rapid government/justice system response given a protected minority.

These catastrophic admissions were extracted by Senators Sessions (R-AL) and Coburn (R-OK). The webcast of the Hearings is here (on right) and the relevant passages are 58.30-61 minutes (Sessions) and 71.30-5 minutes (Coburn).

Holder made it plain that he is seeking legal privileges for certain groups based on what he told Senator Sessions was

“the unfortunate history of our nation”.

Film can indeed tell more than the printed word. Anyone who reviews the comments and deliveries by Democratic Senators Feinstein(CA), Cardin (MD)and Schumer (NY)(c. 53 minutes, 79 minutes and 89 minutes) cannot doubt that, for them, this legislation is a stepping stone to criminalizing political opinion. Feinstein actually cited the immigration debate as necessitating passing the Bill!

I am afraid the Rev. Ted Pike is right and the ADL and its friends are the driving force behind this threat.

....The far left DAILY KOS is worried it might die! We need to call on this and tell them to KILL THE HATE CRIME BILL!-

I just got a phone call from a well placed source on Capital Hill that confirmed that the hate crimes bill currently before the Senate will be added to the Defense Authorization Bill…You need to call your Senator NOW and ask them to save the hate crimes bill from certain death! If it’s added to the defense authorization bill it will be the death of hate crimes this year.
You can look up your Senator’s direct phone number here or call (202) 224-3121 and tell them to SAVE THE HATE CRIMES BILL.

Could it be others were underwhelmed by Holder’s performance as well?
