• Tenn. Tea Party Leaders: Sen. Lamar Alexander a 'Mushy Moderate'

In Nashville on Thursday, about a half-dozen Tennessee Tea Party leaders gathered with the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund to denounce current Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander and promote his Republican challenger Joe Carr.

“Lamar Alexander is not a conservative, Lamar Alexander has never been a conservative, Lamar Alexander will never be a conservative,” asserted Nashville Tea Party president Ben Cunningham.

Cunningham explained that every six years, Alexander campaigns as a conservative but fails to fight for conservative values.

“If he is re-elected, God forbid, he will go back to the Senate, he will serve for six years, he will warm the seat, he will be a mushy moderate, just like he’s been a mushy moderate for the last 12 years,” he said.

Cunningham confirmed to Breitbart News that Alexander invited him to a meeting before the election heated up.

He indicated that Alexander was curious about Tea Party activity in the area.

“It was bizarre,” he said about the character of the face-to-face meeting.

The Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund announced a $20,000 commitment to the Real Conservatives National Committee for their “Beat Lamar” effort.

“Every six years, Lamar Alexander turns into a born-again conservative,” Memphis Tea Party leader Jane Pierotti said, accusing Alexander of voting with President Obama 62 percent of the time.

Pierotti praised Carr for having a strong record of fighting against amnesty -- particularly in Tennessee.

“Unlike Lamar, Joe Carr’s words match his actions -- he’s the real deal,” she added.

Delane Stewart of the Upper Cumberland Tea Party lamented that many in Tennessee were indifferent about Alexander, because they had no idea of his record, particularly on immigration reform.

“He owns that, he needs to know that he owns that,” she said.

“I think it’s despicable,” Sevier County Tea Party group chairman Steve Osborn said, adding: “He runs as a Republican, and rules, or governs, or legislates like a Democrat.”

The small group of Tea Party organizers praised Joe Carr for being a fighter and an honest conservative.

“Joe Carr is a fighter and he will got to Washington to fight for balanced budgets and conservative values,” Cunningham said.
