Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, head of the Democratic National Committee, wants American workers to know that illegal aliens make up "part of the economic backbone of our economy."

This news has to be especially encouraging to the millions of Americans who want full-time work but can't find it, while their own government continues to permit nearly 8 million illegal aliens to keep their payroll jobs in construction, manufacturing, transportation and services.

Wasserman Schultz made her comment while appearing on Jorge Ramos' Fusion news program to discuss the thousands of "unaccompanied" illegal aliens coming across our southern border.

“It’s not about politics for the president, nor is it about politics for any of us who care about making sure that young people or people in general, who have come to this country simply to make a better way of life for themselves and are of no threat to our country, and actually, essentially have become a part of the backbone of our economy, that we create a pathway to legal status for them, to citizenship,” she said.

Of course it's not about politics but only about a "humanitarian crisis" that President Obama saw coming two years ago but did nothing to prevent.

Wasserman Schultz seems to be saying that if all illegal aliens left this country, our economy would crumble because none of 18 million jobless Americans would step up to fill the above mentioned jobs, the majority of which are already being done by our citizens.

A word of caution to the callous Wasserman Schultz and her ilk: Please pay close attention to a new poll showing that President Obama's "go it alone" strategy for achieving his immigration goals thus far denied by Congress is not very popular, to wit:

74% of voters want the President to work with Congress while only 21% support his acting alone. This includes:

    56% of Democrats
    81% of Independents
    93% of Republicans
77% believe U.S. born workers and legal immigrants already in the country should be given preference for jobs over new legal immigrants (89% agree over illegal immigrants).

In other words, congresswoman, when was the last time you checked in with your constituents, especially those without a job, to see whether they support your apparent preference for illegal aliens over American workers?
