State-by-state breakdown reveals big disparities

The data shows dramatic variation across the country. Idaho posted the nation's highest exemption rate, 17.5%, with Utah, Oregon, Arizona and Nevada close behind. On the other end of the spectrum, California, New York and West Virginia all recorded exemption rates as low as 0.1%, with Connecticut and Maine not far off.
These disparities reflect differing state policies. Twenty-four states now report exemption rates above 5%, according to the CDC. States generally set their own school vaccine requirements, and some have made it easier than others for parents to claim non-medical exemptions.

The powerful telescope examined the ancient light from galaxies at high redshifts, within about 500 million years after the Big Bang. The observations showed that these galaxies were already much larger than they should be, according to our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution.

But new research says that these galaxies were actually even more massive than thought.
Astronomers can't count and measure every star in a galaxy. Resolving individual stars in distant galaxies is challenging. Instead, they measure the masses of galaxies based on the Initial Mass Function (IMF).
The IMF is an important link between stars and their galaxies. It not only describes an initial stellar population of a galaxy in terms of their masses, formation, and evolution, but by extension, the evolution of the galaxy itself. The IMF basically assigns probabilities to stars and their masses at the time of formation.
Now, new research published in Nature Astronomy examines how the IMF may be giving us the wrong idea about the JWST's problematic early galaxies. The research is titled "Hidden mass in early galaxies revealed by bottom-heavy initial mass functions," and the lead author is Chloe Cheng. Cheng recently earned her PhD at Leiden University in the Netherlands, partly based on this work.
"James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observations have revealed that massive galaxies formed and evolved faster than predicted by galaxy formation models, with many having already assembled a large mass in stars approximately 12 billion years ago," the authors begin in their paper. But the authors highlight that the masses of these ancient galaxies are uncertain. They're based on the Milky Way's (MW) IMF, which is an assumption.
The researchers say that when astronomers observe and measure a distant galaxy, they're not seeing a representative sample of its stars. This is skewing the mass measurements of the puzzling high redshift galaxies found with the JWST.
"Specifically, the contribution from low-mass stars, which make up the bulk of stellar mass, is not directly observed but inferred on the basis of an extrapolation of the Milky Way IMF," the authors write.
Extrapolations, while powerful, can give us the wrong idea. When astronomers observe a distant galaxy, they're not resolving individual stars. They're examining the collective spectra of all of its stars and working backwards from their to understand their collective masses. But these spectra are dominated by massive bright stars. Dimmer, lower-mass stars can be lost in their light. This has implications for the JWST's massive, high-redshift galaxies.
�If a galaxy were a city, the brightest stars would be the skyscrapers that immediately catch your eye from afar,� lead author Cheng said in a press release. �Our models demonstrate that a far more numerous population of low-mass stars is concealed by those rare, bright stars, like houses hidden between skyscrapers. As a result, this galaxy turns out to be much more massive than previous estimates suggested.�

JADES-GS-z14-0 is one of the JWST's early galaxies that is much more massive than we thought galaxies could be so soon in the Universe's history. In this work, the researchers used data from the JWST's NIRSpec instrument and the Very Large Telescope's Large Early Galaxy Astrophysics Census (LEGA-C). Their research covered 9 quiescent galaxies at high redshifts to understand their IMFs. The results show that these 9 galaxies contain more low-mass stars than thought.
"Using ultra-deep spectra of nine massive quiescent galaxies at redshift z ≈ 0.7 from the JWST Initial Mass Function of Early Red NIRSpec Objects program, extended to bluer wavelengths with deep Very Large Telescope Large Early Galaxy Astrophysics Census spectra, we find that the most massive galaxies have excess low-mass stars," the authors write.
�Until recently, measurements like these were simply impossible,� says co-author Martje Slob (Leiden University). �We needed not only a telescope capable of magnifying very distant galaxies, but also spectra of exceptional quality and new analysis techniques to reliably detect the subtle signatures of faint, low-mass stars hidden within these cosmic titans.�
These findings further disrupt our understanding of the masses of these early galaxies. Though they already seemed more massive than we can account for, they're actually even more massive than that. Even more shocking, the oldest of these 9 galaxies has the most low-mass stars.
"Remarkably, our oldest galaxy (formation redshift, z_form > 5) has the most bottom-heavy IMF," the authors write. "This galaxy may be a descendant of JWST�s �impossibly early� galaxies, implying that the latter may have had similarly bottom-heavy IMFs," they explain. That would increase their masses by a factor of about 4.
Scientific models of galaxy formation and growth were already struggling to explain the JWST's early galaxies. Now, according to these results, the strain is even greater. "Our findings may thus amplify the tension with galaxy formation models," the researchers write. Models now need to account for many more low-mass stars.
The authors say this work is a huge leap in how we understand galaxy growth. "Our finding of bottom-heavy IMFs at z∼0.7, particularly in our oldest galaxies, implies that the most massive quiescent galaxies discovered at high redshifts (stellar mass ≳10¹¹M_⊙), likely have even higher masses than originally reported," they write. These galaxies are quiescent, but the results imply that their star-forming progenitors were also more massive, which only strains models even more.
There's lots of unsettled debate about the nature of the IMF. Astronomy is all about light and how it gets captured, measured, dissected, and modelled. This research shows how different the results are when our understanding of light can be wrong by a factor of 4. And those results affect more than just stars.
�This result shows that much more mass than previously thought is hidden in low-mass stars,� says Mariska Kriek (Leiden University), who led the research. �That has consequences for many areas of astronomy. For example, as many planets orbit low-mass stars, this could even indicate that more planets formed in the early universe than we had previously assumed.�

Portland, Oregon, mother Allison Roberts told Fox News Digital Tuesday she hopes her fight with her children�s elementary school over a trans-inclusive flag will inspire others to speak out for their beliefs.
�I think the increased political presence with the progressive flag was a bit much,� Roberts said of her situation. �And I think that was the final straw that got me to open my eyes and see that, yes, the school had become a political apparatus. It wasn�t my problem with the pride flag, per se, it is what I think is using it as a political apparatus and indoctrination for the kids.�

Once you get all the pride stuff in the classrooms and the purple haired teachers it�s over. And, being Portland, how many others will speak out? I wonder if all her friends have abandoned her? Stopped answering her calls and texts, stopped inviting her anywhere? All her coworkers shunning her?

According to the Liberty Justice Center, which filed a lawsuit on behalf of Roberts last week, she initially expressed concern last year over Meriwether Lewis Elementary School�s decision to repaint its traditional rainbow pride flag with an �Intersex-Inclusive Progress� variant and an �identity flower� assignment given to her 11-year-old child that asked students to identify and discuss their gender identity with classmates and teachers.

This is nothing new in the Portland schools, it�s just at a point where she noticed it, and, good for her fighting back. But, sorry, she�s delusional

Roberts described herself as a liberal Democrat but felt the new flag was a step too far, particularly given her religious beliefs, and warned that situations like hers are likely happening in other schools.
�I never would have thought it would have happened in Portland, arguably one of the most, at least, vocally liberal cities out there. I really didn�t think it could happen here,� Roberts said.
�So, if it can happen here, I have no doubt that it can happen anywhere. And, again, it�s � it�s curriculum that is being stealthily placed into and around other curriculum. So, I do firmly believe that it�s happening everywhere.�

Portland, Oregon is one of the first places you could see this happening, and it�s been happening for years. Why would she, or any other liberal, not see this coming? Liberals seriously ignore everything till it is rammed into their face. She did get a good lesson in the way that her Comrades operate, though, as when she protested, handing out letters outside the school but not on school property, they trespassed her for one year with the normal wacko language like �animus and harassment targeting vulnerable members of [the] community.�
So then the Liberty Justice Center got involved with the lawsuit

�And, so, shutting somebody down because you don�t like what they�re saying really is problematic for that,� he continued. �There�s no offense exception to the First Amendment. There�s no hate speech exception to the First Amendment. These are made-up words, made-up things, and so really what they are doing here is insidious, I think, on several different grounds.�

This is the way your Comrades operate, Allison. Will you learn the lesson?

Roberts encouraged other parents to get involved with their children�s schools and take action when necessary.
�Don�t be afraid to speak up. Be loud,� she said. �I think the time for hoping that the common sense and the adults will enter the conversation and make things right is kind of over. And I think it is time for us to be vocal and to get involved.�
�And I would say to people, get involved in your school, your kid�s school,� Roberts added. �Go take a tour when it starts up this year. That�s all I�d say.�

Funny, Democrats have been saying that parents should not be involved at all, that the Schools Know Best, and the liberal run schools have been working hard to keep parents out. Conservative parents have been pointing out all these problems for years, and the liberals told them to pipe down.

Nearly a quarter of Republicans now say they are financially worse off under President Donald Trump's second term, a stunning reversal for a president who built his political brand on economic prosperity and promised to end foreign wars. The Financial Times/Focaldata poll, released Sunday, reveals that 53 percent of all registered voters believe they are in a worse position than when Trump took office in January 2025, with 25 percent of Republicans sharing that grim assessment.

The economy was supposed to be Trump's ace card. Instead, groceries, electricity, cars, homes, fuel and common household goods generally cost twice as much as they did during his first term. While some of the problem is compounding from the previous Biden autopen administration, which spent taxpayer money on fraud and printed even greater amounts of dollars at record levels, Trump's administration bears responsibility for accelerating the problem at the end of the first term (COVID helicopter cash for maintaining lockdowns and Operation Warp Speed) and definitely during the second term (New wars and corporate investments).
After these tumultuous years of runaway spending, low income Americans feel the economic pressure the most. For instance, a $30,000 salary from 2016 no longer covers basic necessities for a family of four in most cases. In 2026, at least $50,000 is needed just to maintain a basic life with electricity, food, insurance, clothing, rent and water.
The financial crunch is hitting rural Republican voters hardest. Those who believed in Trump's promises of economic revival stood by him through two impeachments and multiple criminal indictments, thinking that Trump would "save America." Today's reality of runaway spending, multiple wars, the expansion of the surveillance state, and further investments into AI technocracy is a cruel lesson of government promises to the working man backfiring in the worst way imaginable.

Trump has offered varying justifications for the war: preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, weakening its missile program and encouraging regime change. Yet none of these explanations has resonated with a war-weary public that remembers Trump's 2024 campaign pledge to avoid long wars and his prediction that the Iran conflict would end within weeks. This has been one of the craziest years in any of our lifetimes. World War III is literally playing out right in front of our eyes, this has been the worst year for wildfires that the western half of the country has experienced, severe hunger is on the rise all over the globe, the Ebola outbreak in Africa is now the second largest of all time, and we just continue to get hammered by one natural disaster after another. This is what a �perfect storm� looks like, and it just keeps intensifying.

In 2020, 10.27 million acres burned in the United States, and that established a brand new record.
In 2026, we are on pace to absolutely smash that old record.
Through August 18th, more than 7.2 million acres have already burned in the United States.
We are way ahead of the pace set in 2020.
In fact, we are way ahead of the pace of any of the last 10 years.
Of course it isn�t just America that is burning. 2026 has been a year when gigantic wildfires have been raging all over the planet�

The summer of 2026 has been one of extraordinary fires. In Europe, they have burned hundreds of thousands of acres in France and Spain and destroyed homes across England; they killed 13 people in Spain last month, and an elderly couple in Greece this weekend. In Canada, fires have consumed an expanse of forestland larger than Belgium�which is also battling its biggest recorded wildfire. In the United States, about 7.2 million acres have burned, the largest year-to-date area in the past decade and nearly double what it was at this time last year, according to data from the National Interagency Coordination Center. Allison Rayburn, a program coordinator for the Oregon Department of Forestry, told me that in the eastern part of the state, �you can barely see the sun� through the smoke: �It�s just devastation, and miles and miles and miles of blackened landscapes.�

In Europe, many of the fires have threatened populated areas, but in the U.S., much of the area burning in the West has been rural. Near the Oregon town of Jordan Valley, the Big Grass Fire has been burning since July 23 and is among the largest fires in the state�s modern history; toward the end of last month, it hopped a canyon and crossed the border to Idaho, where the smoke from this and other fires made the air quality the worst in the country. The complex of fires in Spokane, Washington, flattened entire neighborhoods; three other wildfires 10 times its size are burning elsewhere in the state.

I know that some of you live in areas where wildfire smoke blanketed the sky for weeks.

In Oregon, the total number of acres that have burned is now up to 2.63 million acres.
They have already shattered the yearly record for that state, and more wildfires just continue to spread.
Of course this hasn�t just been a record year for wildfires.
We have been experiencing monster storms, epic floods and horrifying tornado outbreaks too.
During the first half of 2026, there were 12 �billion dollar disasters� in the United States alone�

Extreme weather has dominated headlines throughout the first half of 2026.
Since January, the U.S. has recorded 12 billion-dollar disasters, ranging from severe storms and tornadoes to flooding and wildfires.

�Billion dollar disasters� used to be rare.

But now they just keep coming at us one after another.
In the Southwest, a multi-year drought is a seemingly endless disaster that just keeps on giving.
At this point, the water levels in Lake Mead and Lake Powell have both dropped to dangerously low levels�

Their water levels are now just above the threshold at which electricity production would be affected.
On Sunday, the level of Lake Powell, which lies mostly in Utah, fell to 3,519.80 feet (1,072.8 meters) above sea level, just below its previous low set in 2023, according to data from the Bureau of Reclamation, the federal agency responsible for monitoring the Colorado River.
On Friday, Lake Mead, created by the Hoover Dam on the boundary between Nevada and Arizona, fell to 1,039.70 feet above sea level, (316.9 meters), data showed.

We desperately need weather patterns to get back to normal.

Unfortunately, it is not likely that is going to happen any time soon because it is being projected that the El Ni�o of 2026 will be the strongest ever recorded�

Meanwhile, it appears that World War III has entered a very dangerous phase.

President Trump has announced that there are �no talks or conversations going on� with Iran�

The Trump administration, Israel and Iran are all pondering their next moves.

The Iranians are threatening to go on the offensive if the Trump administration does not agree to their demands within a certain period of time.
If that actually happens, the fighting in the Middle East will go to a level that we have never seen before.
According to NBC News, western officials believe that Russia is sending �drone components, ammunition and TNT� to the Iranians�

Russia is shipping drone components, ammunition and TNT to Iran through the Caspian Sea, helping Tehran replenish stockpiles damaged in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes, according to a European government document obtained by NBC News and verified by a Western official.

If this report is accurate, that makes Russia a direct participant in the war in the Middle East.
Of course the U.S. has been giving a tremendous amount of aid to Ukraine for a very long time, and that makes us a direct participant in that war.
Last night, the Ukrainians sent more than 600 attack drones toward the Moscow area�

Ukraine has launched another massive overnight drone wave on Russia. While this is nothing new or unusual, the number of drones concentrated specifically on the Moscow region was much larger than prior attacks.
Over 600 drones were sent on Moscow and the surrounding region overnight into Tuesday morning, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. It ranks among the single largest assaults on the capital of the war. Regional reports say it�s the largest drone attack on Moscow of the last two years.

The Ukrainians are trying to provoke the Russians into doing something that will cause NATO forces to enter the conflict.
We are closer to nuclear war than ever before, but most of those living in the western world do not seem to realize this.
In Africa, the focus is on another historic crisis.
The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is now the second largest Ebola outbreak in the history of the world�

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) confirmed via its public health agency on Sunday that at least 2,325 people have died of Ebola infections in the current outbreak in the east of the country, making it the deadliest such outbreak in the country�s history.
Experts noted that the extremely high death toll is likely not a full count of the people killed by the disease, as the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) was slow to identify an outbreak in the affected area, and that only one other known Ebola outbreak � the 2014-2016 outbreak in Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia � has resulted in more deaths. The death rate of identified patients has increased in the past few months and resources to aid those diagnosed remain insufficient, health experts lament.

Unlike other strains, there is no cure for this particular version of Ebola.
So that makes this outbreak different from past major outbreaks.
Famine is also erupting in many parts of Africa.
In one area of Somalia, approximately 50 percent of the children under the age of 5 are now suffering from acute malnutrition�

The MSF survey, conducted across 888 households in 14 displacement sites in Baidoa, found that one-third of families are surviving on just one meal a day, while only 2 percent can afford three meals a day.
The results are consistent with MSF�s regular malnutrition surveillance in Baidoa, where teams have screened more than 21,000 children under 5 since the beginning of the year and found global acute malnutrition levels of around 50 percent.

Hunger is growing here in the United States too.
Approximately one out of every seven Americans has experienced food insecurity at some point within the last year, and demand at food banks has been on the rise�

In late July, just two days before the first of the month, a line of Oregonians stood waiting for free food.
At the Dallas food bank in the Willamette Valley countryside, the hunger crisis gripping Oregon was on full display. Alexis Arechiga, 28, struggles to afford snacks for church and sporting events with her two kids. Corrina Campbell, 32, visits the food bank twice a week, and says feeding her two kids means that on some nights she goes to sleep hungry.
The high cost of groceries and the federal government�s cuts to SNAP benefits have left more Oregonians struggling to afford food. Food assistance programs like food banks are stretched thin trying to meet the growing demand for help.

Every single day, more Americans are falling out of the middle class and into poverty.
As poverty grows, I think that we are going to see even more people start to totally lose it.
Earlier today, I came across a Fox News story about a crazed man in Philadelphia that was chasing a 40-year-old woman with a doll mask on�

A masked man is on the loose in Philadelphia after allegedly chasing down and assaulting a woman while wearing a doll mask, police said.
The unidentified man was seen on Wednesday near City Hall and asked one woman if she was �ready to die� while chasing others, police told FOX 29. Police said the man, who was wearing a doll mask, chased a 40-year-old woman and made threatening comments while holding his hand behind his back.

The fabric of society is breaking down all around us.
The elite can clearly see what is happening, and that is why security has become such a huge priority for many of them.

12 Gigantic Red Flag Warning Signs For The Economy

We are facing a global energy crisis, a global debt crisis and a global inflation crisis all at the same time. In all my years, I have never seen anything like this. Two of China�s largest shipping companies just decided to stop sending their oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Meanwhile, diesel prices are heading into the stratosphere with no end in sight. Supplies of diesel fuel are going to get so tight during the months ahead. At the same time, bond yields are surging as the global debt crisis escalates. The U.S. national debt is about to hit 40 trillion dollars and the debt to GDP ratio in Japan is nearing 250 percent. We are caught in a global debt spiral that is out of control, and inflation has become a major issue all over the planet. Anyone that thinks that there is an easy answer to all of these problems is just being delusional.

Just within the past 48 hours, there have been some absolutely enormous developments. The following are 12 gigantic red flag warning signs for the economy�
#1 The crack spread for diesel fuel in the United States just surpassed the $100 mark for the first time ever. Our trucking industry runs on diesel, and so this is going to have enormous implications for all of us�

The U.S. diesel crack, a key measure of refining profitability, hit an *all-time high of $102.20 a barrel on Monday as global supply disruptions from the wars in Iran and Ukraine run into peak agricultural consumption season.
Measured as the premium of U.S. diesel futures over U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude oil futures , the U.S. diesel crack was trading at $99.82 a barrel, up 2.4% from Friday, as of 11:56 a.m. ET. The crack has hit new intraday record highs in five of the last six sessions, reflecting growing concerns about fuel availability as fresh attacks on Middle Eastern refineries ⁠added to existing supply disruptions.

This is a monster story.
When I first saw the chart posted below, I was visibly stunned�

#2 Two Chinese shipping giants have decided to stop sending their oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait for the foreseeable future. China normally purchases more oil from the Middle East than anyone else by a wide margin, and so this is a very big deal�

#3 Yet another commercial vessel was just attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. This just keeps happening day after day, and it is not getting nearly enough attention from the mainstream media�

A vessel attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz was attacked Tuesday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre (UKMTO).
The UKMTO noted it received a report of a ship being hit with �an unknown projectile� as it was leaving the strait, a critical oil shipping channel. The vessel�s engine room was damaged, and a crew member was killed, the organization said.

#4 The Strategic Petroleum Reserve has now fallen to the lowest level since 1982�

The US emergency stockpile of crude oil has dwindled to its lowest level since 1982, prompting fresh concern that oil prices could surge if the Iran war drags on.

The Trump administration released another 5.3 million barrels in the past week as it tries to prevent the conflict from driving up oil prices and hitting the US economy.
The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) now sits at 293.4 million barrels, a level not seen since Ronald Reagan occupied the White House.

#5 The yield on 30 year Treasury bonds just hit the highest level in 19 years. We are entering a time when it is going to be a lot more expensive for the U.S. government to borrow money�

Treasury yields were little changed on Tuesday after long-dated bonds hit their highest level in almost two decades amid a worsening U.S. fiscal situation and persistently higher inflation.

The yield on the U.S. 30-year Treasury bond fell less than 1 basis point to trade at 5.305%. It hit a new 19-year high earlier in the day and is nearing its highest level since 2002.

#6 The yield on 10 year Japanese bonds just hit the highest level in nearly 30 years. Global investors are really starting to freak out about Japan�s debt crisis�

Japan�s benchmark 10-year government bond yield climbed to a three-decade high on Tuesday, driven by rising overseas bond yields and speculation about a near-term Bank of Japan interest-rate increase.
The 10-year JGB yield added 2.5 basis points to 2.945% early in the trading day, the highest level since September 1996.

#7 College graduates all over the country are having an exceedingly difficult time finding employment. For example, one 21-year-old woman named Irene Chang has applied for approximately 450 jobs without getting hired�

Irene Chang, 21, studied engineering in college because she enjoys solving problems. She also wanted to major in something she thought would lead to a stable career.
�I wanted to work a job right after college,� she says.
But that has been a challenge. Chang graduated in May from Georgia Tech with a bachelor�s degree in industrial and systems engineering. She says she started applying for entry-level data analyst roles about a year ago, while she was still in school. Chang estimates she has submitted around 450 applications since last September and has had about 19 interviews � so far she hasn�t gotten any offers.

#8 Approximately half of all U.S. college graduates end up moving back in with their parents once they leave school�

A record number of young adults are choosing to live with their parents rather than contemplate the tricky math of renting or owning homes.
Roughly half of recent college graduates returned to parents� homes after finishing their studies rather than move out on their own, according to a new survey from Clever Real Estate.

#9 Pending home sales unexpectedly fell back near a record low last month�

Pending home sales in July decreased by 2.3% month-over-month and 2.2% year-over-year, according to the National Association of REALTORS� Pending Home Sales report. The report provides the real estate ecosystem�including agents, homebuyers and sellers�with data on the level of home sales under contract.
Pending home sales in July fell to the lowest level since January 2026. Month-over-month pending home sales declined in all four major U.S. regions. Year-over-year pending home sales increased in the Midwest but declined in the Northeast, South and West.

#10 The price of ground beef in the United States is hovering around record high levels�

Data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) show that the national average price of ground beef in the supermarket is hovering just below $7 per pound, a record high, as a prolonged cattle shortage shows no signs of abating anytime soon.

#11 Nearly 60 percent of Democrats now have a positive view of socialism�

The poll, which surveyed 2,287 adults in the United States between August 12-14, found that there is a 26-point difference between Democrats� positive views on socialism and capitalism.
Among Democrats, 58 percent were found to have a positive view of socialism, while 32 percent have a positive view of capitalism. The poll also found that 18 percent of Democrats have a negative view of socialism, while 50 percent have a negative view of capitalism.
The poll also found that 24 percent of Democrats have �no opinion� of socialism, while 18 percent have no opinion regarding capitalism.

A teacher from Fresno, California who allegedly recruited black people to "shoot some guns" and "rob some white people" has been banned from the school where she worked.
Kenisha Daily was a special education teacher at Madera Unified School District in Fresno, California, had posted some videos of herself on social media where she described creating a "black militia" for the tasks. In the videos, she was also seen loading a shotgun and pistol.

�Starting today, I�m starting a black militia. So if you�re black, if you want to shoot some guns, come find me,� she said in a video shown by ABC 30 KFSN. �We�re going to rob some white people.�

Over the weekend, the videos were reported to the school, where authorities immediately placed her on leave.
District officials contacted authorities in Fresno over concerns of Daily's statements along with worries about the community. This prompted a home visit from the police which led to a temporary restraining order against Daily. The incident is now being investigated by the police, according to a statement from the MUSD.

MUSD and Madera police conducted a safety review at Lincoln Elementary and increased security at the school, while Daily was placed on leave pending the investigation. Police and district officials are also working with local agencies on longer-term safety measures stemming from the incident, the statement revealed.

Daily told ABC 30 Action News that she was cooperating with the police as the incident is being investigated and viewed the videos as "entertainment."
"For anyone who had been impacted or made to feel uncomfortable, I am truly sorry," she said in her statement. According to Daily, police spoke to her and found no threat in the situation, but an official statement from the authorities has not been released, although they confirmed they are aware of the situation and have seen the videos.
The outlet also reported that in March this year, Daily raised questions about the Fresno police's use of military equipment during a community meeting.

The Trump administration is more than willing to sit down and negotiate, and they have let the Iranians know that they are willing to make enormous concessions. But the lunatics that are running Iran are not interested. They truly believe that they are winning the war, and they are demanding that the U.S. must comply with every single one of the outrageous demands that they are making. If the Trump administration will not do this, the Iranians have warned that they will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed for Trump�s entire term, and that would put extreme pressure on the global economy. And now it appears that Iran is not content to just hold the global economy hostage. It is being reported that Iran has issued an absolutely shocking ultimatum to the United States. If the Trump administration does not agree to all of Iran�s demands in a matter of weeks, Iran will go on the offensive against the United States and Israel.

This is not just some random Internet rumor.
Reuters originally reported this story, and it apparently came directly from a �senior Iranian official��

Iran has decided to shift its strategy in the conflict with the United States from a defensive posture to a �fully offensive� one and has given Washington several weeks to implement a memorandum of understanding between the two sides, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Monday.
The warning marks a further escalation in Tehran�s rhetoric as a U.S. naval blockade squeezes Iran�s economy and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has slowed to a fraction of its prewar level.

This is an absolutely enormous story.

So why isn�t it getting a lot more attention?
According to this �senior Iranian official�, the United States will be given �a few weeks� to fulfill all of the obligations that it was supposed to meet under the infamous �Memorandum of Understanding��

Iran has instead set a deadline of �a few weeks� for the United States to fully implement the memorandum, the official said. The precise timetable will be conveyed to Washington and regional governments through mediators.
If diplomacy fails, �all Iranian entities� will be prepared to escalate tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and across the region, the official said, adding that Iran would not wait indefinitely while the United States maintains its naval blockade.

Under Iran�s interpretation of the �Memorandum of Understanding�, the United States is required to pay 300 billion dollars in war reparations, arrange for the release of all frozen Iranian assets, permanently end the naval blockade, end fighting on all fronts, lift all sanctions and agree to permanent Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz�

That is quite a list of demands.

There is no way that President Trump will ever agree to all of that.
So there will be more war.
Brigadier General Yadollah Javani is another Iranian official that is warning that Iran�s posture is about to become more �offensive��

Brig. Gen. Yadollah Javani, the political deputy of the IRGC, told Iran�s Fars News agency that the armed forces would adopt a �transformative� approach under its recently refreshed leadership, including a potential shift toward more offensive operations.
Javani said Iran had never initiated a war and that its actions to date had been defensive, but, �from now on, every action we take, although it has a defensive nature, must take on an offensive form.�

Apparently this has been in the works for quite some time.

According to the Wall Street Journal, when the �Memorandum of Understanding� was signed in June Iranian leaders immediately started preparing for �a bigger fight��

After President Trump signed a memorandum of understanding with Iran in mid-June, administration officials fanned out to build support for an agreement they hoped would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and start winding down the war.
Iran�s hard-line leaders huddled in Tehran and came up with a different plan, according to Iranian and Arab officials. In their view the pact was likely just an attempt by the U.S. and Israel to take pressure off the global economy and buy time for a bigger attack down the road. Instead of putting faith in talks, they took the past two months to prepare for a bigger fight.

In addition to preemptive missile and drone strikes, Iranian war plans reportedly include cutting undersea Internet cables and a potential ground operation in Kuwait by cutting across southern Iraq�

If Iranian troops actually enter Kuwait, there will be no turning back.
President Trump would feel compelled to commit U.S. ground forces, and things would get really crazy from that point forward.
Many were desperately hoping for some sort of a peace deal with Iran, but at this stage even Jared Kushner is publicly admitting that the Iranians �are not showing any interest in doing something that makes sense for us��

Jared Kushner told Fox News on Monday that as the 60-day memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran expires, Iran doesn�t appear to be willing to finish the deal and give up nuclear weapons.
�[President Trump] is willing to make a deal that could be great for the Iranian people � but right now they are not showing any interest in doing something that makes sense for us,� Mr. Trump�s son-in-law and adviser said in an interview with Fox News� Trey Yingst.
Kushner said Iran has to be willing to make a fair deal without trying to �hide certain cards and get certain concessions.�

The Iranians are not going to compromise.
They have issued their list of demands, and they expect President Trump to comply.
There is no way that Trump will do that, and he just warned that Iran is �in big trouble��

President Donald Trump said Monday he likes the idea of declaring the Strait of Hormuz U.S. territory, touting American control over the waterway while warning that Iran is �in big trouble.�
�We control it. We control it with the blockade. We have a blockade, we control it with the blockade. And I like the idea of declaring it a territory. We could do that,� Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
�We have total control over the strait now,� Trump said before stating that the Iranian military �can be a nuisance.�

In addition, Trump is also claiming that he will bomb Oman if they go along with Iran�s plan for the Strait of Hormuz�

President Donald Trump threatened military action against Oman, an ally of the United States, if its negotiations with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz interfere with U.S. efforts to reach a peace deal with Tehran.
�If Oman gets in the way, we�ll bomb the s� out of them,� Trump told Fox News in an Aug. 17 phone interview, according to Trey Yingst, the network�s chief foreign correspondent who talked to the president.
Outside of talks with the United States, Iran has engaged in negotiations with Oman about reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which borders the two countries and both Iran and the United States have asserted control.

There isn�t going to be peace in the Middle East.
Those that believed that there would be were just deluding themselves.
If Iran chooses to go on the offensive against the United States and Israel, the entire region will erupt.
In such a scenario, both sides could go all the way up the escalation ladder very rapidly.

Democrats now overwhelmingly have a more favorable view of socialism than capitalism, according to a shocking new poll.
Nearly 60% of party members support socialism compared to 18% who view it negatively, while just 32% have a favorable view of capitalism compared to 50% who see it as negative, according to the CBS News/YouGov survey.
The poor marks for capitalism among Democrats get even worse when narrowed down to those who have a college degree, with 71% of that group favoring socialism compared to 16% viewing it unfavorably, the poll showed.
The disturbing findings come as Democrats are engaged in a so-called �battle for the soul� of their party.
Democratic Socialists of America-backed and allied candidates have had a series of breakthrough victories in Democratic primaries across the country throughout the 2026 election cycle.

The World Is Running A Huge Oil Deficit, The SPR Hits A 4 Decade Low, And Diesel Shortages Are Looming

The world is barreling toward a historic energy crunch that will be unlike anything that we have ever seen before. When fighting with Iran erupted earlier this year, the global economy was absolutely swimming in oil. We literally had far more oil than we needed, but now commercial inventories have gotten extremely tight and national reserves are alarmingly low. If the Strait of Hormuz does not get reopened soon, we will quickly enter an immensely painful chapter of the global energy crisis. Energy prices will shoot way up and shortages will start to become a major issue. In fact, a global scramble for supplies of diesel fuel has already begun.

Right now the world is consuming far more oil than it is producing.
We have been running an enormous oil deficit for months, and the amount of oil that is coming out of the Persian Gulf is running at about half of pre-war levels�

Wall Street analysts � who use ship tracking services like Kpler and Windward Intelligence, among many other data points, to provide estimates about oil flows � have said oil tankers have been getting roughly 4 million barrels of oil out of the Persian Gulf each day.
In addition to the roughly 7 million barrels per day that Middle Eastern countries have rerouted around the strait through pipelines and other methods, about 11 or 12 million barrels have been flowing out, according to the tracking services. That�s significantly lower than the 20 million barrels per day that the region had exported before the Iran war started.

We have been able to operate normally all this time because there was a tremendous amount of excess oil sitting around.

But now somewhere between 1.5 and 1.9 billion barrels of excess oil have disappeared�

Global inventories are between 1.5 billion and 1.9 billion barrels lower now than they were at the start of the war, depending on who�s estimating. Massive crude stockpiles before the war helped prevent catastrophe when supply dried up.

Commercial oil inventories are exceedingly tight at this stage.
The good news is that there is still some extra oil remaining in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
The bad news is that the amount of oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is now so low that we risk doing permanent damage if we continue to drain the salt caverns where the oil is stored�

The caverns that hold the U.S. strategic oil reserve could get damaged by the rapid release of stockpiles in response to the Iran war, experts warned this week as inventories hit a four-decade low.
Damage to the caverns would make it more difficult to respond to future energy emergencies, the experts said. The oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, or SPR, is stored at 60 salt caverns thousands of feet underground at four major sites along the Gulf Coast in Louisiana and Texas.

300 million barrels is considered to be a danger point by many industry insiders.
We have now gone beyond that level�

The SPR has tumbled below 300 million barrels for the first time since it was filled in the early 1980s, according to Department of Energy data released Monday. Inventories are depleting as the U.S. releases 172 million barrels in response to the supply disruption caused by the Iran war. The SPR will sit at around 243 million barrels after the drawdown is finished.

To extract oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, operators pump water into the bottom of the underground caverns.

This pushes the crude oil to the surface and into the pipelines.
However, the caverns must always maintain a strict minimum of 70 million barrels.
This cushion keeps the extraction pipes safely submerged in oil instead of drawing up water.
Officials in Washington are insisting that we can safely keep removing oil out of the SPR until we reach the 70 million barrel mark.
But one expert is warning that such a claim is �nonsense��

�Don�t believe the people out of the government that are saying the SPR can go to 70 million barrels. It�s nonsense,� Hochstein told CNBC�s �Squawk Box� on Thursday. At that level, the reserve would be depleted to �the point of never resurrecting it,� he said.
Depleting the reserve below 300 million barrels risks damage to the caverns, the former Biden administration official warned in June.
�I don�t know anyone who believes we can go below 300,� Hochstein told CNBC�s Brian Sullivan at an Atlantic Council event. �I know plenty of people who think we can�t get near 300 because physically you will damage the caverns where the oil is stored.�

We have now gone under the 300 million barrel mark.
And I think that we will continue to draw down the SPR because there is no much pressure to do so.
But the clock is ticking.
Eventually we won�t be able to get any more oil out of the SPR.
What will we do then?
Will we start seeing lines at gasoline stations?
That is precisely what we are witnessing in Russia right now.
In fact, another wave of fuel shortages has just hit that nation�

Fuel shortages have returned to some regions of Russia in August, prompting local authorities in at least 10 regions to again tighten controls on sales of motor fuel at petrol stations, according to authorities and regional media.
Reuters witnesses reported on Monday that gasoline was once again unavailable at some fuel stations in the Moscow region, although diesel fuel was available at almost all stations.
The fuel crisis, which began gaining momentum in May and by July had spread to almost all regions of Russia, follows the shutdown of several refineries hit in drone attacks and a seasonal rise in demand.

Russia is normally the second largest exporter of diesel fuel in the world.
But now they are being forced to hoard what they have.
So this is starting to make things very difficult in Europe and Asia.
In fact, European countries are now scrambling to find sufficient supplies of diesel fuel�

Diesel cargoes are costing more than jet fuel in Europe for the first time in more than a year, LSEG data showed, *as the continent replaces lower Middle East air fuel shipments with other sources of supply, but struggles to secure more diesel for industry and agriculture.
Europe has been able to pull in jet cargoes from the U.S. and other countries like Nigeria as prices surged after the start of the Iran war, which disrupted crude and fuel supply. Global diesel supply tightened even further when Russia banned exports amid Ukrainian attacks on its refineries.
�We see a ⁠higher risk of persistent scarcity pricing in diesel than in crude heading into winter,� analysts at Goldman Sachs said in a note.

We were warned that this would happen, and now it is happening.
Here in the United States, diesel prices are really starting to spike�

In the United States, the report said, diesel futures booked their sharpest rise since July on Monday, adding 7.4% to $4.19 per gallon. The average retail price for a gallon of diesel was $5.32 on Tuesday, according to AAA data. That was up from $4.88 per gallon a month ago and $3.71 per gallon a year ago. To put it mildly, this is problematic.
Diesel is often referred to as the workhorse of any economy. Indeed, economies run on diesel, which is used for everything from freight transportation to farming, to heating during the winter. If diesel prices are consistently higher for an extended period of time, they will inevitably be passed on to consumers, fueling a more generalized inflation trend.

We produce more diesel than anyone, and so for the moment we are okay.
But higher diesel prices will directly affect the cost of living for every single one of us.
And if the Strait of Hormuz does not get reopened, things will get a lot worse.
For now, the Iranians are insisting that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until President Trump agrees to every single one of their outrageous demands.
President Trump can never do that, because giving in to every single one of their outrageous demands would make him look like an all-time loser.
So it appears that we are stuck between a rock and a hard place, and the global energy crisis is poised to greatly accelerate in the months ahead.

Stepping into the schoolyard at the Adolph S. Ochs public school in Manhattan’s bustling Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood, you’re greeted by a canopy of trees. Painted sea turtles and birds adorn the pavement. Summer school kids run along the track encircling the green turf field, tossing balls back and forth. Other kids shoot hoops or decompress in the shade. After walking down nearby Ninth Avenue in the blistering heat, one finds it noticeably cooler here.

This schoolyard wasn’t always like this. Eleven years ago, it resembled many other city playgrounds: an open, unshaded expanse of black asphalt.

Now, it’s among 420 schoolyards across 26 states that the nonprofit Trust for Public Land says it is helping to transform from barren blacktop into welcoming oases for schoolchildren and local residents.

In late July, TPL hosted a two-day summit in New York City, bringing together school district leaders, landscape architects and environmental advocates from across the country to learn more about reinvigorating schoolyards.

Keynote speakers extolled the benefits of nature-based play and keeping schoolyards open to the public when school isn’t in session.

Now, I’m happy to say that this is a good idea, replacing asphalt with grass. Having trees.

But these designs aren’t driven just by aesthetics and opportunities for play. Climate change is exacerbating dangerous heat waves and increasing the frequency of downpours in some cities. Green-roofed gazebos and rain gardens to catch storm runoff can let schools help their neighborhoods mitigate difficult weather conditions.

At schoolyards such as the one at Adolph S. Ochs, asphalt playgrounds can worsen flooding and overwhelm the city’s drainage systems. Switching out blacktop for porous pavement allows rain to seep through rather than pool on the surface. A green gazebo roof, acting as a sponge, absorbs rainwater and reduces the flooding risk. On 90-degree days, unshaded asphalt surfaces can surpass 140 degrees, but shaded surfaces have been found to be at least 30 degrees cooler than those without protection from the sun.

A peer-reviewed study documenting millions of excess deaths across the West after the rollout of COVID measures and shots has been yanked by the British Medical Journal - not for bad data, but for the crime of asking inconvenient questions.

The BMJ Public Health journal has formally retracted a 2024 paper that tracked more than three million excess deaths in 47 Western countries between 2020 and 2022.
The study, which used official "Our World in Data" figures, noted that excess mortality remained stubbornly high even after containment measures and mass vaccination. Its authors called for proper investigation into the causes.

The retraction notice cited "misinformation in the discussion regarding the possible causes of excess mortality" and claimed the limited original work by the authors was not sufficiently described.
An institutional probe by the Princess M�xima Center, where three of the four authors worked, found no fabrication, falsification, or malicious intent. It still complained the paper gave "disproportionate attention" to the possibility that containment measures and vaccination might have contributed.

Lead author Dr Saskia Mostert has described the reaction that followed publication as "blind and irrational fury." She later resigned from the center and testified before a U.S. Senate subcommittee about the professional cost of raising the data.

Professor Ronald Meester of Vrije University Amsterdam put it bluntly: there is "no scientific reason to retract." "Retraction is bizarre in this case, there is nothing actually wrong with the paper. Hence the real reason must be political. Very sad, really, for science. I do not see how we can take science seriously anymore when editors are willing to make decisions for these kinds of reasons."

It appears that most of the population has become way too apathetic about the threat of nuclear war. There are people on social media that cheer as both sides continue to escalate the conflict in Ukraine, and there are people on social media that are openly advocating for nuclear weapons to be used in the Middle East. I don�t think that such people actually understand the immense destructive power of modern nuclear weapons. Even a limited nuclear exchange would kill millions, and an all-out nuclear war would cause a nuclear winter that could kill billions. Unfortunately, it appears that we are now closer to nuclear war than ever before.

In recent months, Russia and Ukraine have been absolutely pummeling each other with long-range strikes.
The escalations that we have been witnessing have been absolutely shocking, but the mainstream media in the western world hasn�t been giving these escalations the attention that they deserve.
On Saturday, hundreds of long-range Ukrainian drones hit targets in the Moscow region�

Hundreds of drones have targeted the Moscow region in a sustained overnight assault that wounded killed at least six people, according to the Russian capital�s mayor, as Ukraine steps up long-range attacks deep inside Russia.
Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 600 drones had been flying toward the Moscow region between Saturday evening and 6:30 a.m. local time (0330 UTC) on Sunday, adding that 201 were destroyed over the region.

If someone was hitting Washington D.C. or New York City with long-range drones every night, what would we do to them?

Just think about that for a moment.
We should be very thankful that the Russians have been showing a great deal of restraint so far.
But they are clearly running out of patience.
In a desperate attempt to provoke the Russians into doing something really stupid so that NATO will be forced to enter the war, the Ukrainians have been striking �four key categories of targets��

Many of its strikes have focused on four key categories of targets, according to an Associated Press analysis of hundreds of Ukrainian attacks this year � compiled from statements by Russian officials and state media and the Ukrainian military.

As the Iran war pushed up energy prices, leading the U.S. to ease sanctions on Russian oil, Kyiv ramped up strikes on oil infrastructure to deny the Kremlin revenue from fuel exports and force shortages on ordinary Russians. It is also striking defense manufacturing to damage Russia�s long-term ability to produce weapons, targeting air defenses to clear a path for its own arms, and hitting retail warehouses to bring the effects to ordinary Russians.

Just within the past few months, Ukraine has striking one Wildberries warehouse after another.

Last night, it was a warehouse in the Moscow area that got hit�

The huge inferno blew up the Wildberries online marketplace complex at Koledino, just 25 miles south of the Kremlin, in the early hours of this morning.
Wildberries, the largest Russian online retailer, stores and houses military equipment for Putin, according to Ukraine.

Can you imagine how angry the American people would be if Amazon warehouses were getting destroyed by drones?

This is a really big deal, and the Russian people are furious.
At this point, well over a dozen Wildberries warehouses have been destroyed�

That graphic totally floored me when I first saw it.

In addition, the Ukrainians just used long-range missiles to hit a number of other very sensitive targets that are located hundreds of kilometers inside Russian territory. The following comes from a social media post by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy�

Today, there are new significant results from our deep strikes. In Russia�s Samara region, one of the key enterprises within Roscosmos � the Progress Center, which was involved, among other things, in electronics production � was hit. Flamingo missiles were used. A good achievement. The distance from our border is about 900 kilometers. Our long-range sanctions also reached the Savasleyka airbase, where the carriers of Russian missiles that strike our cities and villages are based � about 700 kilometers from Ukraine. We also have confirmation of the damage we were aiming to inflict at an oil facility in Ust-Luga � more than 800 kilometers from our border.

He is so thrilled about these strikes.
But pundits on Russian television are regularly talking about the need to use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
If the Russians actually did this, the joint chiefs would likely recommend using tactical nuclear weapons against Russian forces in the Donbas.
It is hard to say what President Trump would do in such a scenario.
There is also a risk that the conflict in Ukraine could spark an all-out nuclear exchange between the United States and Russia.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is publicly accusing the United States of being deeply involved in Ukraine�s long-range strikes deep inside Russian territory�

Russia believes that US is playing a far deeper role in Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory than Washington has publicly acknowledged, including by providing intelligence to Kyiv, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.
Lavrov said Moscow had formally raised the issue with US officials and was awaiting an explanation over Washington�s alleged involvement in strikes carried out deep inside Russia.
�We have submitted a series of questions to the State Department requesting comment, including on the matter of intelligence data and the fact that the US is far more deeply involved in organizing and executing strikes deep within Russian territory against civilian targets. We await a response,� Reuters quoted Lavrov as telling Russian state television.

Unfortunately, Lavrov is not wrong about this.
We are helping the Ukrainians conduct these strikes, and that has been well documented.
We desperately need the conflict in Ukraine to end, because the longer it goes on the more likely it will be that nuclear weapons will get used.
According to one report, the Chinese are highly concerned about the possibility that the Russians might lose patience and decide to use nukes against Ukraine�

China has again told Russia not to even consider using a nuclear weapon against Ukraine, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Russian nuclear saber rattling has accelerated in 2026, with officials and major Russian outlets making the case for tactical nukes more forcefully and unambiguously than any time since Vladimir Putin ordered the 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In response, China, a vital enabler of Moscow�s assault, has told Russia it must avoid any atomic attacks, Zelenskyy said � reiterating Beijing�s long-stated opposition to nuclear strikes.

Reading that should deeply alarm all of us.
Meanwhile, Marjorie Taylor Greene is claiming that she knows with 100 percent certainty that the potential use of nuclear weapons against Iran is being discussed in high-level strategy meetings in Washington�

Former US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene claimed Sunday that high-level strategy meetings are underway to discuss the potential use of nuclear weapons against Iran.
�I�m not speculating, I know. And it�s pure evil,� Greene wrote on US social media platform X. She did not provide evidence to substantiate the claim.
Greene alleged that the US government was considering lowering the threshold for nuclear weapons use despite President Donald Trump�s repeated claims of victory in the war and assertions that Washington has control over the Strait of Hormuz.

That is quite a claim.
Hopefully President Trump would not ever consider doing such a thing.
But the U.S. wouldn�t even have to be involved for nuclear weapons to be used in the Middle East.
A senior IRGC official is warning that the Iranians may soon go on the �offensive� and that they have some �strategic surprises� up their sleeves�

A senior Revolutionary Guards official said Iran�s military actions, which he described as defensive so far, could become �offensive� in the future and warned adversaries to expect �strategic surprises.�
�The enemy should know that it cannot carry out surprise actions against us and should expect strategic surprises,� Yadollah Javani, the IRGC�s political deputy, told state broadcaster IRIB.
Javani said Iran�s armed forces would take whatever measures they deemed necessary to defend the country, ensure security and counter threats at what they considered the appropriate time.

If the Iranians were to launch even a single unconventional warhead at Israel, it is likely that Israel would respond with nuclear weapons.
Israel has more than enough nuclear warheads to destroy all of Iran�s largest cities, and all it would take is a single wrong move to unleash such a scenario.
And let us not forget about China.
The Chinese have been building up their strategic nuclear arsenal faster than anyone else in the world, and they have also been making preparations for a military move against Taiwan.
Last week, Taiwan began a series of military exercises that were intended to simulate what a Chinese invasion would look like�

China on Friday condemned Taiwan�s annual Han Kuang military exercises as a �wasteful charade�, accusing Taipei of stoking fears of war as the island conducts 10 days of drills simulating a potential Chinese attack.
The comments were China�s first official response since the exercises began last week. Taiwan, a democratically governed island that rejects Beijing�s sovereignty claims, launched the drills as Chinese military activity around the island continues to increase.

The moment that China attempts to take control of Taiwan, we will be at war with China.
Most Americans do not realize this.
And once we are at war with China, things could go nuclear very rapidly.
Of course using nuclear weapons should be absolutely unthinkable.
In a full-blown nuclear war between the United States and Russia, tens of millions would die within the first few hours�

For months, the U.S. has been getting pummeled by one major disaster after another, and the past few days have been absolutely insane. Hurricane Lala just dumped more than two feet of rain in some parts of Hawaii, we are witnessing the worst flooding in the entire modern history of Indiana, the endless drought in the Southwest has caused Lake Powell to drop to the lowest level ever recorded, and an absolutely massive heat dome is going to make it feel like it is over 110 degrees in many cities in the Southeast on Monday. If it was just one disastrous week, we could write this off as bad luck. But it hasn�t just been one disastrous week. In fact, we have been experiencing a nightmarish string of natural disasters that stretches all the way back to 2024. So why is this happening to us?

Hurricane Lala was not supposed to be this powerful.
According to CNN, more than 30 inches of rain have already fallen on Hawaii�s Big Island�

Videos obtained by CNN show streets flooded by torrential rainfall on the Big Island, which got over 30 inches of rain. More than 190 flights in and out of Hawaii have been postponed, Green said.
Emergency responders are expected to be busy dealing with urgent matters for 36 hours as the storm passes Hawaii, with damage assessment expected to begin on Monday, the governor said.

Have you ever lived somewhere that suddenly got 30 inches of rain?

The National Hurricane Center has issued a warning for those that live in Hawaii to be alert for life-threatening flooding and mudslides.
Those that live in areas with steep terrain will be particularly in danger.
By the time it is all said and done, it is being projected that Lala will dump up to 35 inches of rain in some areas�

By the time Lala�s completely gone, some higher-altitude places on the Big Island, dominated by the towering Mauna Kea volcano, will have been hit with as much as 35 inches (89 centimeters) of rain, forecasters said, enough to loosen steep slopes where some of the 210,000 islanders live off the grid in improvised housing.

I can�t even imagine that much rain, because I have never experienced anything like it.

Officials instituted a search and rescue mission after a number of homes were reportedly �swept off their foundations��

The island of Oahu, including the state�s capital Honolulu, is under a flash flood warning Sunday morning. Parts of Hawaii�s Big Island are also under a flash flood warning, and National Weather Service had previously called that warning a �Particularly Dangerous Situation.�
�Several occupied homes may have been swept off their foundations, and based on that, civil defense has initiated a search and rescue mission,� Hawaii County Mayor Kimo Alameda said overnight.

One minute you are sleeping, and the next minute your house is literally being swept along by floodwaters.

That is how fast it can happen.
Lala also brought extremely high winds to the island chain.
In fact, Accuweather is telling us that there were �wind gusts as high as 140 mph� on Mauna Kea�

As of Sunday morning, wind gusts as high as 140 mph have been observed at the summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island, where heavy snow and blizzard conditions were observed. Intermediate elevation gusts to 91 mph have been observed at Waimea on the Big Island and near 80 mph on Molokai.

Meanwhile, Indiana is dealing with a flooding disaster that is absolutely unprecedented.
Entire communities are underwater, and officials are calling this a �once-in-a-lifetime� event�

Six people are dead and many more are missing as torrential rain spawned destructive high water across Indiana in what authorities are calling �once-in-a-lifetime floods.�
Entire towns were inundated with murky water as rising rivers exceeded their banks, with some residents taking to kayaks and small boats to save fellow residents or to escape, according to news outlets.

There are actually portions of several states that have been severely flooded, but Indiana was hit the worst.
At one point, the White River actually set a brand new all-time record by reaching a level of 24.93 feet�

The day after a destructive derecho tore across northern Indiana and parts of Illinois, rivers in eastern Indiana swelled, engulfing homes and reaching historic levels.
The White River at Anderson, Indiana, reached 24.93 feet early Friday morning. This surpassed the previous record of 23.60 feet set in 1913, more than a century ago. The river had not been above 20 feet at this location since 1958.
At Raible Avenue in Anderson, the river crested Friday morning at 21.60 feet, just shy of its record of 23.00 feet, also set in 1913.

What a nightmare.

While the center of the country keeps getting hammered by one storm after another, the western third of the nation continues to endure a multi-year drought of epic proportions.
I wrote about the horrific wildfires in the Northwest at the end of last week.
In the Southwest, the big story today is the fact that Lake Powell has now hit the lowest level ever recorded�

Lake Powell, the giant reservoir on the Utah-Arizona border that helps power millions of homes, has fallen to its lowest level ever amidst a worsening western drought exacerbated by climate change.
The lake�s surface dropped to 3,519.91 feet above sea level on Aug. 15, according to the Bureau of Reclamation�s automated gauge system. The previous lowest level was 3,519.92 feet, reached in April 2023. Dropping below 3,490 feet could imperil the lake�s ability to generate electricity, and federal officials have been pulling water out of smaller reservoirs upstream to help delay reaching that level.

Federal officials are going to do what they can, but if it simply doesn�t rain this crisis is only going to intensify.
If you live in that area of the country, this is a story that you will want to watch very closely.
In the Southeast, a gigantic heat dome continues to absolutely bake tens of millions of Americans�

An extensive heat dome will continue to build across the Gulf Coast early this week, bringing several days of dangerous heat and high humidity with little overnight relief and increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

On Monday, it is going to feel like it is 113 degrees in Jacksonville, Florida.
That is hot!
Of course it isn�t just the United States that has been experiencing more frequent natural disasters.
Since the beginning of June, our planet just hasn�t stopped shaking.
I wrote about the magnitude 7 or greater earthquakes that have been occurring in recent months last week, and now we have another one to add to the list�

Rescuers started arriving today for thousands of evacuees on Indonesia�s Flores Island after a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake killed 51 people, injured dozens and damaged hundreds of houses and buildings.
Some 5,000 people fled their homes as the quake hit the island on Saturday at 5.58am local time � around 11pm in the UK.
It was followed by at least 341 aftershocks, a spokesman for the BNPB national disaster agency, Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan, said.

Magnitude 7 or greater earthquakes are supposed to be rare.
In some years, we have less than 10.
But now they are happening with alarming regularity.
We live at a time of tremendous chaos.
Catastrophic events are occurring all around us, and I fully expect the months ahead to be even crazier.

A TROVE OF internal records from a secret society for powerful figures in US politics, finance, and tech was left exposed online, WIRED has confirmed, naming participants in its events and revealing sensitive personal details they were assured would stay private.

The group, called Dialog, is a private, invitation-only organization cofounded in 2006 by the billionaire tech investor Peter Thiel. It convenes US officials, foreign government figures, and Silicon Valley executives at off-the-record annual retreats. Dialog has spent two decades declining to disclose its members.

A directory in the website's code was first revealed by the Swiss hacktivist Maia Arson Crimew. Known for exposing the US government’s No Fly List and breaching the surveillance-camera company Verkada, crimew tells WIRED the directory surfaced via an anonymous tip. WIRED independently verified its contents.

The ‘Free Speech’ Remigration Convention Where the Attendees Are Kept Secret

A source separately provided WIRED with the registration list for Dialog's 2026 retreat, which names 222 people and records what the list describes as each registrant's membership status and attendee type, including “active member” and “guest.” The retreat is scheduled for August 12-16 at a venue near Dublin, Ireland.

The same data lays out a program of off-the-record sessions, including: “Money (Does?) Buy Happiness,” “Bring Back Nuclear,” “Navigating WWIII,” “Battlefield Technologies,” and “How’s Your Sex Life?” Other talks include “Build-a-Cult,” moderated by the founder of the Christian networking site Pray.com, and “Build-a-Party,” run by a former White House national security official.

Together, alongside the mundane fare of a typical thought leadership conference, the documents show an extraordinary convergence of power. The registration records list General Alexus Grynkewich, NATO's supreme allied commander Europe and the head of US European Command, who took the post in July 2025 and is recorded on the leaked list as having attended Dialog gatherings since 2021. The website directory names sitting Trump administration officials, two US senators, six members of the Paypal Mafia, a former Middle East chief of intelligence, and a sitting ambassador to the United States, along with the founders and directors of many of the country's largest surveillance, data-broker, and advertising-data companies.

Those executives appear side by side with senior US officials overseeing their industries. Auren Hoffman, Dialog’s chairman, founded the location-data broker SafeGraph and the identity-resolution firm LiveRamp, two of the most important suppliers in the consumer data economy. He appears in the directory alongside Treasury secretary Scott Bessent, whose department writes the rules on financial data, and Senator Ted Cruz, chairman of the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, which oversees the Federal Trade Commission and its data-privacy authority.

Palantir cofounder Joe Lonsdale, whose software runs case management for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and data fusion for the Pentagon and intelligence community, is listed in the same society as Army secretary Dan Driscoll and Representative Jim Himes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, which oversees agencies Palantir contracts with.

None of the individuals named in this story responded to requests for comment. Raffi Grinberg, who lists himself as Dialog’s executive director on his LinkedIn profile and is the author of the self-help book How to Be a Grown-Up, did not respond to a request for comment.

The registration records appear to show not only who belongs to Dialog but who attends. Of the 222 people signed up for the 2026 retreat, according to the leaked records, 87 are marked as first-time attendees. Others list histories stretching back more than a decade, and a handful to the society's founding 20 years ago. None of the registrants, Grynkewich included, used a government email address. All registered with personal or corporate accounts, placing their attendance outside the email systems subject to public-records laws.

What ties the roster together more than any title or office is a shared preoccupation with artificial intelligence, longevity, and the near future. Asked on a sign-up form to predict the future, registrants returned again and again to the same theme: that AI will reorder work, war, education, and belief within a few years. Several foresee mass labor displacement and a swing back toward unions and government programs; others predict an “AI winter,” domestic terrorism targeting data centers, criminal defendants choosing AI lawyers over public defenders, or religious revival provoked by the disruption.

“Societal degeneration,” predicted one person, “will continue to accelerate.”

Members also list talents like “funhouse construction,” accent imitation, backcountry skiing, urban exploration, and “meditative and psychedelic inquiry into the nature of reality”; one offers “compassion and existential dread,” another “dinner parties, keeping secrets, remembering birthdays.” Their book recommendations skew toward the canonical and optimization-minded, Marcus Aurelius and Milan Kundera alongside Annie Duke’s Thinking in Bets, Peter Attia’s Outlive, and, from at least one attendee, Thiel’s own Zero to One.

Dialog also plays matchmaker. Its participant form asks registrants whether they are “looking for love” and offers to include “Single Man,” “Single Woman,” or “Other” respondents in “future matchmaking.” A separate site, dating.dialog.org, hosts an app pitched as “meaningful connections for exceptional people.”

The form also gathers sensitive answers, including each registrant’s "political leaning,” which Dialog promises “WILL NOT be shared in the app or with other participants, ever.” That data, and the matchmaking responses, were exposed in the leak.

The records sit in Airtable, a commercial database. For each participant, Dialog logs a membership status, every retreat the person has attended, a biography, a home city, and a private access token. WIRED is not publishing the tokens, which function as login credentials, or the personalized account links that contain them.

The leaked registration list also names senior figures absent from the public directory of 113: Randy Kroszner, a former governor of the Federal Reserve who now serves on the Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee; Hallie Hoffman, a former general counsel and acting chief of staff of the Drug Enforcement Administration; Jonathan Greenblatt, the chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League; Peter Goettler, the president of the Cato Institute; Ryan Stowers, the executive director of the Charles Koch Foundation; and Roger Myerson, a Nobel laureate economist at the University of Chicago.

It also lists a cluster of Google and Google DeepMind executives, among them Tom Lue, who leads global affairs for the company's frontier AI division, and one working journalist, Souad Mekhennet, a former national security correspondent for The Washington Post. (She is listed as running an event called “Ulysses Book Club.”)

The rest of the membership spans hedge fund and private equity billionaires, current and former foreign officials, network television actors, best-selling authors, and religious leaders.

One of several internal documents Dialog left exposed on the same online database that held its registration records is a guide for event moderators, urging them to remind participants that everything is “off the record” and that comments should be concise and “nonobvious.” It also coaches them to model brief introductions to “avoid status signaling” in a room full of senators, dignitaries, and tycoons.

The discipline imposed by the group did not extend to its website. The directory was embedded in the code of dialog.org, a near-empty page, and was served to any visitor who viewed the page's source. A separate Dialog page, at app.dialog.org, presents a sign-in screen for “Dialog Global 2026,” outside Dublin. The page invites any visitor to sign in by email or Google account and presents no terms of service, no notice that the application is restricted to members, and no indication that an invitation is required.

Dialog has operated with little public footprint since its founding. It holds at least one retreat a year, with assigned seating, moderated sessions, and a rule that nothing said is for attribution. Past gatherings have been held at the Ritz-Carlton Dove Mountain in Arizona and the San Clemente Palace in Venice, Italy, according to Axios, which first reported the group's plans for a campus in the Washington, DC, area. It has been likened to a tech-industry version of Bilderberg, the off-the-record gathering of Western political and business elites.

Accounts describe retreats of around 100 participants. The 2026 registration list reviewed by WIRED names 222. Public glimpses are rare. The statistician Andrew Gelman published one of Dialog’s invitations to his blog in 2022, describing its format and a registration fee of more than $16,000. The 2014 retreat drew renewed attention this year when an invitation forwarded to the financier Jeffrey Epstein surfaced in the US Justice Department's release of the Epstein files. A “Jeff Epstein” appears on an attached list of past participants—but the person is actually the former CFO of Oracle, not the deceased sex trafficker.

Donald Trump insists US ‘needs’ Greenland for international security

Greenland’s government has issued a “strong warning” to a U.S. oil company with links to Donald Trump after it brought drilling equipment ashore without prior approval.

Texas-based Greenland Energy, established last year, was admonished for having its equipment shipped to the east coast of the Arctic island recently without permission.

“The Department of Industry and Minerals can state that the licensee did not have the necessary approvals,” the government of the semi-autonomous Danish territory said in a statement.

“A strong warning will be sent to the licensee with a warning that all future logistical matters must be advised and approved by the mineral resources authority – before they are carried out.”

Greenland Energy has expressed its hopes of moving into the remote Jameson Land region and investing $60 million in exploratory drilling.

The company believes there could be $1 trillion worth of crude oil buried there, describing the area as “one of, if not the last, highly prospective, yet completely undrilled basins globally.”

However, Nuuk has not issued any new oil licenses since 2021 when White Flame Energy, a subsidiary of the British firm 80 Mile, acquired the exploration rights to Jameson Land.

Corporate filings cited by The Guardian indicate that Greenland Energy now hopes to acquire a majority stake in its project in exchange for bankrolling the exploration work.

A company spokesman reportedly told a community meeting in June, mistakenly, that it had permission to land the drilling equipment, leading chairman Larry Swets to clarify: “Our enthusiasm for the project led us to communicate in a way that created confusion.”

In July, locals noticed a tugboat towing a barge towards the port of Nerlerit Inaat that was carrying at least 15 shipping containers housing the equipment, according to Danwatch.

“The goal was to get the equipment onshore at Nunap Qeqqa [Jameson Land] in connection with planned oil exploration drilling,” Greenland’s government said.

“At the time of the shipment from Dundas to Tasiilaq, the licensee had an approval to land the equipment on Nunap Qeqqa. The approval has since expired and has not currently been renewed, but is under processing.”

Jorgen Hammeken-Holm, who leads the territory’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, has meanwhile sought to downplay any tensions, saying in an interview with KRN he was at ease with the company “getting things ready to go.”

“For me, it’s completely natural, even if you don’t have a permit, to start putting the logistics together,” he said. “To start assembling containers and all the equipment.”

In a subsequent letter to its shareholders Thursday, Greenland Energy said: “Recent high-level meetings between project leadership and Greenlandic regulatory and oversight authorities have been constructive, and we continue to be encouraged by the progress being made toward the remaining approvals required for drilling.”

The Independent has reached out to Greenland Energy for comment.

The episode comes amid Trump’s on-off pressure campaign to gain control of the 836,000 square mile territory, insisting the U.S. has more need of it than Denmark for national security purposes.

The president has sparred with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and other Nato allies over the issue while sending the likes of Vice President JD Vance, his son Donald Trump Jr and Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry to the island to gauge the extent of local enthusiasm.

Trump has posted a number of memes on his Truth Social platform to keep the matter alive, most recently one of himself as a giant peering over the mountains at a local township, with the caption: “Hello Greenland.”

In his first term, he posted one of a new Trump Tower looming over the island’s rocky shoreline with the caption: “I promise not to do this to Greenland!”

Greenland Energy chairman Swets has meanwhile insisted his company’s ambitions for Jameson Land are “not related to American annexation.”

Assuming it can secure the necessary approval, a representative for the company said it plans to ship 300 containers of drilling equipment from Canada in September with a view to getting down to work in October.

With Puerto Rico’s water crisis, climate change meets ineptitude

Last week in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the water taps ran dry.

The Caribbean island experienced its driest July on record, with more than 60% of the territory—more than 3 million residents—facing drought conditions according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

In fact, P.R. has a history of droughts. That’s a condition based on where it is located.

Large trucks filled with potable water have been sent throughout the island to help residents, with the sick and elderly given preference.

But this dire water situation didn’t just happen overnight or even over the course of the past few months.

“For decades, communities have lived without fair access to water resources, and experts have repeatedly warned that the lack of infrastructure maintenance and poor watershed management would lead Puerto Rico to the water crisis it faces today.”

So, pretty much incompetence. Poor planning. Bad government. I wonder how much money went into graft, waste, and fraud rather than the infrastructure, especially as the population of P.R. has grown, as has the tourist industry?

“The challenge comes from two key issues,” Gossett Navarro said. “One is an ongoing challenge that we’ve had for decades related to infrastructure and then there are the challenges that get exacerbated by the climate crisis … we’re struggling with a drought and it’s making the infrastructure issues even worse.”

Sigh.

It’s currently estimated that approximately 60% of water that travels through Puerto Rico’s geriatric pipes is lost due to leaks and other infrastructural issues, Navarro mentioned.

So even when it does rain, and a percentage of that water lands in accessible reservoirs, citizens are only able to use a fraction of that fraction.

That’s not ‘climate change’.
