    Candidate Background Information

    Prior political or campaign experience:
Ken Chase began working in politics as a volunteer on Ray Shamie’s Senate campaigns in 1982 and 1984 and helped Fred Laskey become a member of Medford’s School Committee in 1985. In 1988, he ran as the Republican candidate for State Representative in Medford and for City Councilor in 1989. While winning neither race he exceeded all expectations in his hometown! He was the advance man in Bill Weld’s campaign in 1990, during which he met Rudy Giuliani. He then volunteered for the Weld/Cellucci campaign in 1994, the Cellucci campaign in 1998, and Romney’s campaign in 2002.

    Top Campaign Issues:
    • Illegal immigration
    • Funding of No Child Left Behind
    • Deficit Spending
    • Homeland Security
    • Alternative energy plan

    Education, Awards & Honors:
Ken attended Malden Catholic High School, where he received his third class TV/radio operators license and was recognized by Who’s Who Among American High School Students. He then studied Romance Languages and played intramural hockey at Boston College (graduated 1983). Ken spent a year as a matriculated student at the Universite de Nantes in France (1981-82), pursuing an interest in military history with visits to the D-Day beaches, the American cemetery at Colleville, and Oradour Sur Glane (location of the greatest massacre, in terms of numbers, ever committed on French soil). On return visits to battlefield sites in Europe, he also visited a concentration camp in Belgium and twice traced the Battle of the Bulge. He continues to pursue contemporary and military history. In 1986, Ken returned to school, spending a semester doing graduate work at Emerson College, followed by a year of study at the California Western School of Law.

    District Information
Please give a brief description of your district:
The Seventh Distinct sits at the hub of the Bay State’s future, linking metropolitan Boston with Route 128. It’s home to industry leaders and students from across Greater Boston. Over 45% of the 7th district’s registered voters are not aligned with a particular party, reflecting the district’s long history of fiercely guarded independence. Yet we are not presented with a choice at election time thanks to the gerrymandering ways of Ed Markey and his rigging the system for personal ends.
With larger communities ranging from Framingham to Waltham and Medford to the quiet suburbs of Lincoln and Weston, the Seventh District represents a microcosm for all things possible in Massachusetts. Under Ed Markey’s long tenure we have been lulled into representation that does not reflect our educational, family or economic security requirements.

Percentage of Democrat, Republican, and Unaffiliated Voters:
    Registered voters: 379,374
    Likely voters: 309,192
% likely voters that are Republican or Unenrolled: 55.76%
