To address some of the border issues first let me say we have a disconnect between economic policies and immigration policies. We need a policy that recognizes our needs and the needs of undocumented workers and grants some type of temporary resident status. We need a policy that supports circular migration. Study shows 80% of undocumented workers want to return home where their families live. Employment opportunities for low-skilled jobs are expected to increase by 7.7% but the pool of Americans willing to do the work will shrink. If you remember not long ago they arrested 300 undocumented workers at Wal-Mart. Did you see a line afterward of people wanting those jobs? No. Currently there are 53 million low skilled jobs available in the US which is expected to increase to 61 Million by 2010 & most Americans don’t want them.

Our friends to the south are not coming over to blow up buildings but to pick crops, work in restaurants and hotels. We want low food and produce cost, inexpensive restaurant meals, and cheap hotels that their labor helps provide, if we didn’t, you would see a demand for certified illegal immigration free products and/or services. But you don’t, because we want cheap products and services. We spend $3 billion on border patrol to stop illegal entry. The result is that the crossing point just moves, risk of death increases, coyotes fees go up as does the cost of fake documents. The Soviets proved you can close a border if you want to. We wink at illegal immigration. We need to concentrate on stopping terrorism and finding a reasonable immigration policy that accommodates our needs and theirs.

Illegal Immigrants should be allowed to attend state sponsored universities at in state tuition rates? (1-10) 1
