    Boycott Michael Savage

As someone who has a 13 year old godson who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of 2, I was utterly livid at the really assinine remarks made by Michael Savage. Yeah, I know he's one of those shock jocks who makes a living out of having a big mouth, but when you attack a bunch of innocent children who didn't ask to be born with this disorder, and the families who have had to suffer both emotionally and financially over this, there is absolutely no excuse.

    Have you read these remarks?

Michael Savage on autism: "A fraud, a racket"

Health & Fitness – On his radio show, Michael Savage claimed that autism is "[a] fraud, a racket ... I'll tell you what autism is. In 99% of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron'."

    http://health.propeller.com/story/2008/ ... -a-racket/

Here's a response by the group Autism Speaks:

Statement by Autism Speaks Regarding Radio Host Michael Savage's Remarks About Autism

One important goal of increasing awareness about autism is to foster a greater level of acceptance and understanding of the very real and significant challenges it poses to individuals with the disorder and their families. The good news is that we see more and more expressions of this compassion every day and everywhere, from classrooms and playgrounds to ballparks and supermarkets. Unfortunately, there are those who are apparently incapable of feeling compassion. They deserve our pity, not our scorn.

I didn't think they were "born with it?" Isn't it aquired from our wonderful pharmacutical companies.

Was it right after a series of multiple shots?

You know they have cures now, don't you? I know Jenny MCCarthy son is cured by special methods,. Many others are following it and it works!

She has a book to explain all she went thru and how to get the kids back.

Sorry.....I agree with Michael Savage. It has been a serious diagnosis stretched to take in brats who don't have the disease or legit condition.

Has nothing to do with those who seriously have to deal with this...it's become an excuse and dumping ground for those who don't belong there.

Kind of like the simple drunk who wants to cry alcoholism as an excuse.

The loose woman who wants to jump the rape band wagon when rape never occured.....just regret.

My kids were "diagnosed" with ADD and they don't have it. They are simply lively kids who don't jump when they are told to jump. One openly and actively the other quite shyly.

The innocent suffer when there are those who abuse it.

It deminishes the plight of the actual victims and gives a free reign for those to abuse it.

I'm sorry, autism, ADD, manic depressive (bi-polar) and a whole host of things have been used as excuses for people who don't have a problem...except for their own lack of control and parents who won't parent.

I seriously feel for you......because your plight has been diminished to nothing when there is a serious problem.

Abuse it, loose it....and all the innocent along with it.

REALLY??? What's the name of the book??

I'd give my life to get my son back from his post-immunization borderline-autism.

You and a whole lot more. My parents wanted their "original" daughter back before I had my head injury. They said I was never the same. There's medical proof and definatly school recordings to prove it....but it was ignored way back then.

It's real and it is serious and I want you to fight every inch of the way.....but there are people who abuse the system and doctors who are eager to fit the round peg in the square hole to get out of it. (Atleast from the legal standpoint.)

I for one understand your frustration.....you are like the real rape victim who has their stand diminished by one who wasn't.

You just don't shoot the messenger for pointing out the problem. I seriously believe Michael Savage just pointed out the abuse of it. In all seriousness.....is there a kid out there today that doesn't have some serious behavioral problem? Feel confused, exhibit outbursts of emotion? Hey, your bi-polar.....not simply a NORMAL teenager. If you are a kid and don't do exactly as you are told....you have ADD!

Question anything and you are a terriorist. Disagree and you are a racist.

People who deal with it know the difference. You obviously know what the real deal is and are angry. Don't blame you. Keep fighting.

My son exhibited autistic symptoms within hours of getting a shot. He already had a history of being allergic to the pertussis shot, so he is medically exempt from that one. The one that changed him was the Hib booster shot at age 2. My doctor "assured me" the vaccine had nothing to with it. The autism specialist (pediatric neuropsychologist) assured me that it was the MMR vaccine, and not the Hib that parents 'pretend' gave their kids autism.

The woman who runs the early intervention program for my county, Renee, has told me that autism is linked to kids who watch too much TV.

I can explain that one: Once your autistic child has freaked out all day long because ONE DROP of water touched his arm 6 hours ago, and the fifteenth screening of SpongeBob SquarePants is his only consolation, YEAH we let them watch the damn TV!

It's saddens me that clueless people are in charge.

First off, there is no known cure for autism. And as much as I like Jenny McCarthy, you cannot rely on her personal success story as each child has to be evaluated and treated on an individual basis.

There has been a lot of debate going on as to what actually causes autism. There have been many instances where healthy children changed dramatically after receiving their vaccines. We do not believe that was the case with my nephew as he was non verbal right from the start. My sister believes it is something that these children are predisposed to in their dna, which is then triggered by either vaccines or something environmentally.

It's a very complex disorder that has varying degrees of symptoms - that's why it is called an Autism "Spectrum". There are severe cases, those that are highly functional and somewhere in between. My nephew falls in the middle. He's come along way thanks to early intervention and behavioral modification from an amazing school in NJ called "Celebrate the Children" which was featured in Time magazine for doing great work.

And after much discussion and research by my sister, he was put on medication to help him to focus on his modification therapies which (as much as I hate pharmacuticals), did help him. It was very much needed in his case.

I can see some of your points of view. And I agree that many kids today are over medicated for things that are not necessary. Originally, my thought was that Savage was confusing autism with A.D.D. as A.D.D. has really been an excuse used to medicate kids who were being hyper due to (in some cases) having too much sugar in their diets!

I couldn't understand why Savage was refering to autism as it's more than just being non verbal or throwning tantrums. There are very real anxiety issues dealing with being overly sensitive to stimuli such as loud noises and crowds of people. My nephew used to pinch or hit us as a toddler and the reason for that was because he was frustrated that he couldn't express himself! Imagine not being able to tell mommy I have a tummy ache or I'm scared?

So to say that Autism is a fraud is completely irresponsible and minimizes the seriousness of it! It could cause some of his listerners to discreminate against these children/adults who are now under the impression that they are all just acting up because they are a bunch of brats or troublemakers.

He should have put more thought into what he was saying. What I would like for him to do, is to have a mother who has an autistic child, and someone who treats kids with this disorder on his show. For one day, put aside the schtick of being a shock jock and just do something informative without any hidden agendas.

    You are wrong! sorry

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ACP6htZS77U

It's more than Jenny, doing it and having spectacular results., I saw many kids fixed and now normal.

I have worked with autistic and had to take many inservices because of it.

And they do know what causes it. It's an abundance of toxins, accumulated over time and the multiple shots add to it and that's why it happens after they get the 2 year old shot. Many get it within a couple of days of their multiple shots.

Yes some are born with it and I agree with why you said.
