The Border Fence

You may be aware that American Patrol is a great source of daily news summaries on immigration.

In addition, American Border Patrol (related to American Patrol) is the only organization actively monitoring the border fence - or lack thereof. On February 5, 2009, ABP reported that the Department of Homeland Security had built only two miles of double-layered fencing since the signing of the Secure Fence Act of 2006 the previous October. The Act required the construction of at least 700 miles of double layered fencing.

ABP has flown the entire US-Mexico border and has produced this clickable survey map showing fence deficiencies:

A case in point: here is an August 2 story from American Patrol: On July 23, Border Patrol agent Rosas was murdered east of Tecate, California.

The Secure Fence Act of 2006 called for the construction of 2 layers of reinforced fencing along 700 miles of the border, including the following: "(i) extending from 10 miles west of the Tecate, California, port of entry to 10 miles east of the Tecate, California, port of entry;"

Instead of twenty miles of double layered fencing near Tecate, DHS built about three miles of single layered fencing, leaving intact 17 miles of old useless 10-ft. mat fencing full of holes.

Agent Rosas was murdered at a spot less than ten miles east of Tecate.

"The fact that agent Rosas' life might have been saved had DHS had done the job that Congress ordered is an inconvenient truth for the media," said Glenn Spencer of the American Patrol Report.

An amendment to the FY2010 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill would complete the 700-mile double fence. Will Nancy Pelosi allow it?

Health Care for Illegal Aliens

House committee votes against preventing health care benefits to illegals
Rep. Nathan Deal (R-Ga.) offered an amendment to the House Energy and Commerce Committee this morning that would explicitly prohibit illegal aliens from receiving health care benefits under the health care reform bill (H.R. 3200). The amendment was narrowly defeated 28-to-29 after two Blue Dog Democrats on the committee voted against the amendment...
