Former Border Agent To Appear At Secure America Now Event

Former Border Agent To Appear At Secure America Now Event With Tom Tancredo
Boulevard, CA ### After months of negotiating with parole officials, former border agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean will be appearing at separate events in southern CA for July 4th. This will be the only public event allowed Ramos for the duration of his three-year parole.

Ignacio "Nacho" Ramos will appear at the Secure America Now Event and BBQ on July 4th along with former Congressman and Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo who is the events keynote speaker. Ramos will be joined by his family.

Jose Compean, in SOCAL for a July 4th parade, will join the event by phone as they are not permitted to be in the same place at the same time. It will be broadcast live on WSRadio.com and participants will be able to ask questions and speak with the former border agents.

"We are thrilled to have them join us at our second annual event and BBQ at Camp Vigilance" noted Carl Braun, event chairman. "These two men and their families have suffered a great deal over the last three years. We're glad to share July 4th with them under happier circumstances" he added.

On February 17th, 2006, the two Border Patrol agents noticed a suspicious van near the Rio Grande River in Texas. The van was being driven by Osvaldo Aldrete- Davila, a Mexican national illegally crossing the US border and smuggling 743 pounds of marijuana into the United States. When the illegal drug smuggler saw agents Ramos and Compean, he ran for the border. The agents heard gunshots while pursuing Davila on foot. According to media reports, Davila at one point turned toward the pursuing agents and pointed what appeared to be a gun. The border agents fired their weapons at the fleeing drug smuggler. Davila was hit in the buttocks and continued to flee into Mexico though the agents did not know they had shot the man.

The Agents were accused of attempting to cover up the shooting and received harsh jail sentences of 10 and 11 years. In a bizarre deal with US Attorney Johnny Sutton, the drug smuggler Davila was granted immunity by prosecutors to testify against the agents but was later arrested on an unrelated drug trafficking charge. The prosecutor actually sought out Davila in Mexico in what many believe was a politically motivated attack on the agents by Mexican and US interests.

President Bush finally commuted the agent's jail sentence after two years served following intense public outcry over their incarceration. Dozens of Congressman and Senators along with national talk show hosts like Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs and millions of Americans lobbied heavily for the agent's release. The men must serve three years parole as part of their commutation. The families are fighting to have their convictions overturned.

Ramos wife Monica came to the Secure America Now! event and BBQ last July 4th to thank supporters for their ongoing efforts to help get her husband and his partner released. The good news came on President Bush's last day in office.

Secure America Now! 2009 is a private celebration of our nation's birth and held at the field headquarters for the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps of CA and the Border Patrol Auxiliary. Attendees will have BBQ catered by Genos West Coast and will be treated to speakers like Tancredo, Assemblyman Joel Anderson and others.

USMC Sergeant Major (RET) "Iron Mike" Mervosh is the Grand Marshall of the event. Mervosh is the most decorated Marine alive and a veteran of WWII (Iwo Jima), Korea and Vietnam.

Country Rock artist Michael Britton will be in concert and performing throughout the day, which begins at 11:00 AM and is concluded at 10:00 PM with a spectacular lighted balloon release and TEA PARTY at 9:00. Britton made national news with his song "Ramos and Compean" and this is the first time he will perform the song for the border agents.

Ramos & Compean will be interviewed at 3 PM and Tancredo will give his keynote address at 5 PM.

Camp Vigilance is located 65 miles east of downtown San Diego on an Oak Tree studded 170-acre tract in the Laguna Mountains. Security for the event is provided by the Border Patrol Auxiliary. Directions and advance tickets are available at

and are only $15, which includes the BBQ. ($20 at the door)

The event is held on private property. Families are encouraged to attend and children under 14 are free. A magician and dunk tank will be on hand and a karate demonstration by Christian Karate of Spring Valley will be held. More than 2-dozen vendors and community organizations will display.

"This is a great opportunity to join together, celebrate our nations birth and draw attention to the tragedy of our unsecured border" said Barbara Coe founder of the CA Coalition for Immigration Reform and one of the events organizers. "We are very fortunate to have such an impressive array of speakers with us this year as well as fantastic food and entertainment. We are looking forward to a great event" she added.

I'm so proud of Ramos, Compean and Tancredo.

If I lived on that coast, I would go, sounds great!
