More Co-sponsors for Mandatory E-Verify Bills

More Co-sponsors for Mandatory E-Verify Bills

Since House Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith and Senator Chuck Grassley introduced mandatory E-Verify legislation last week, you've sent an astounding 296,774 faxes!

Yesterday alone, you sent 70,523 faxes in response to Roy's alert, making it the biggest faxing day since Pres. Obama's State of the Union Address back in January!

More important than the number of faxes, however, is the impact your faxes are having on Members of Congress. If you haven't checked our front page this week, you've missed all the new co-sponsors added to the bills. Since the introduction of Chairman Smith's bill last week, the list of co-sponsors has doubled due to your faxing efforts.

Here's the current list of House Members dedicated to helping unemployed Americans by co-sponsoring H.R.2164:
    Rep. Bartlett (MD)
    *Rep. Bilbray (CA)
    Rep. Blackburn (TN)

On Monday, we produced a LIVE webcast with Roy and Rosemary discussing Chairman Smith's bill. If you missed it, you can watch a condensed version here. Also, be sure to read Roy's new blog outlining the different ways the bill will target illegal aliens currently in the workforce.

    KEY POINTS TO H.R.2164:
Requires 99% of employers use E-Verify within 2 years of enactment
Requires federal, state, and local agencies, federal and state contractors, and critical infrastructure employers to E-Verify ALL employees within 6 months
Allows states and local municipalities to enforce employer compliance using authority over business licensing
Requires businesses to fire illegal aliens currently in the workforce who are identified by the Social Security Administration and Homeland Security (Read Roy's blog for more info)
Allows businesses to run all employees through E-Verify 30 days after enactment

For more information on H.R.2164, read Rosemary's full description of the bill or read "10 Great Features of the Legal Workforce Act".

    Not a good thing

I do not see this as a good thing - why is the Chamber of Commerce in favor of it??? And why should we believe it would be enforced???

I HOPE WILLIAM WILL HAVE A GO AT BECK FOR PUSHING THIS BILL. IT WILL STRIP LOCAL/STATE RIGHTS IN ENFORCEMENT. E-VERIFY IS A TOTAL BITCH TO ENFORCE THATS WHY CHAMBER SUPPORTS IT!
