    COASTAL MONMOUTH BUREAU

WEST LONG BRANCH — A town hall meeting on U.S. immigration policy will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday in Wilson Hall at Monmouth University.

The purpose of the forum is to create a dialogue based upon the facts, said Laurence M. Taub, chairman of the Monmouth County Human Relations Commission, which is sponsoring the event.

"We are not taking a position (on immigration policy)," Taub said, who explained it was the purpose of the commission to educate the public in order to eliminate prejudice.

U.S. Rep. Frank J. Pallone Jr., D-N.J., will send a staffer to present an alternative proposal, and the White House was also expected to send a representative to make the case for President Bush's immigration proposal.

Two other presenters, Sherri West, a history professor at Brookdale Community College in Middletown, and Freehold Councilman Marc LeVine, will also participate in the formal discussion.

The topic of discussion will include an overview of current immigration policy, ways to enforce present policy, the Bush administration's proposal for reform and alternative suggestions for reform, the commission said in a written statement.

An opportunity for questions and comments from the audience will follow the presentation from officials.

The Monmouth County Board of Freeholders established the commission in 1990 with a mission to prevent hate and combat bias.

The group running it sounds like they might be pro illegal. There's no reason for an anti-bias and discrimination group to be running something like this unless they're going to be investigating la raza, mecha, etc. I'm afraid its going to say that anyone who doesn't support illegal immigration is a racist.

It turned out to be crap.

"Without question, illegal Latino immigrants are among the groups who experience discrimination, Zucaro said in an interview before the forum.

For example, some day-laborers are hired for the day by employers but are not paid for their work, she said.

And in some cases, because illegal immigrants fear or are hesitant to deal with authorities, they often do not report crimes to police when they are victims, Zucaro said.

"That makes them more vulnerable to crime," she said.

During the program, in response to a question from the audience, Zucaro said she believes all attempts to bring illegal immigrants out of the shadows reduces their vulnerability.

She also noted that about two-thirds of illegal immigrants contribute to Social Security without ever getting a chance to collect from it."

If you didn't sneak into our country illegally then you wouldn't have any of these problems.

If at all possible, give me a few extra days warning next time and I will be there. I was completely wrapped up in business yesterday and last night.

These types of "community" gatherings are always stacked! The one up here was a set-up but also quite a shock to the college community when so many "ordinary" folks showed up with facts and spoke intelligently and - oh my - didn't sound like they crawled out from under a hay baler, which, according to their elitist attitudes, must be an uneducated peon's job.

The entire thing was a sham turned upon it's ear. From farmers, Vets to small business owners such as myself.........those numbnuts actually tried to stop us from speaking when they realized these people were not ignorant fools that could be manipulated.
    {vent over}

This ILLEGAL-OPEN BORDERS community has had time to regroup and refund. They're going to be more organized now as you've just experienced. But what they can't do is negate our personal experiences and eye witness accounts.
