    Florida Close to Achieving Victory Against Illegal Aliens

    Florida Close to Achieving Victory Against Illegal Aliens

    Battle for More Sensible Immigration Policies Now in Florida State Legislature

    Support Bill to Mandate Worker Verification of all Florida Workers

    Kick Illegal Aliens OUT of Florida Jobs

    Our spring initiatives are now in full force all across the country. We're hoping to make a major impact in Florida before the state legislature adjourns for the year on May 6th. And we've got a great chance at making that happen in the upcoming weeks.

    State immigration enforcement has received lots of attention in the past year. As the Federal government continues to let the American people down by its refusal to enforce immigration laws, a number of states are attempting to take control. As evidenced by the actions of the Florida state legislature, the need to gain control of our immigration laws and ensure that the law is properly enforced is apparent.

    For many years, Florida legislators have refused to address this issue, instead preferring to allow greedy business to exploit illegal labor and keep Floridians unemployed. However, with Florida facing a $3.6 Billion budget shortfall, legislators in Tallahassee are now leaning toward putting unemployed Florida residents back in Florida jobs.

    There are multiple bills winding their way through the legislature that would mandate the use of E-Verify for at least some new hires. Mandating E-Verify will prevent employers from hiring illegal aliens and open up employment opportunities for millions of Florida's unemployed.

    10.6% of all Florida residents are unable to find any job -- that's 1,696,000 U.S. citizens and legal immigrants. If the state requires the use of E-Verify, a huge number of jobs will be opened up to legal workers.

    By now I'm sure you've heard about the E-verify system. This outstanding government database is used to validate the eligibility of all workers to work legally in the U.S. With a 99.7% overall effectiveness rate, this tool is the best option currently available to reduce the presence of illegal aliens in U.S. jobs, and put unemployed Americans back to work.

    But, the open borders lobby in Tallahassee is doing its best to stop these bills. We must get one or more passed.

    In the last few weeks, NumbersUSA has already won big state victories in Indiana, Alabama, and Georgia. We're on the knife's edge in several other states. We need more support!

    Here's what well use the money for:

    Send tens of thousand of faxes to hundreds of Florida legislators;
    Mobilize thousands of Floridians to contact their state Senators and Representatives;

    Connect Florida residents with other concerned activists in their home districts.

    We promised to be much more proactive this year. The fact that E-Verify is in play in Florida shows just how much influence NumbersUSA and our Florida activists truly have.

    Getting where we are now has required huge sacrificial giving from so many for so long. Sending faxes and assembling experts on state law does not come cheap. Please help us cross the finish line in Florida.

    Keep the faith, and don't ever give up,

    Continue Asking Gov. Scott to Speak Out in Support of E-Verify Legislation

    This new fax has been posted in your Action Buffet based on your answers to the Interest Survey.

    Continue Asking Gov. Scott to Speak Out in Support of E-Verify Legislation

    The Senate Budget Committee has still not voted onSB 2040, the Senate’s weak immigration enforcement bill. Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner reportedly delayed a vote on the measure hoping for input from Gov. Rick Scott on how to strengthen the measure’s E-Verify provisions. Gov. Scott has not responded so far, and time is running out for the committee to pass a bill.

    Unless a bill passes committee, even a weak one, we will have no Senate vehicle for moving E-Verify legislation. We must convince Gov. Scott to publicly support passage of a strong E-Verify bill, as contained in HB 7089. This will stiffen the backbone of Senators, who might otherwise defer to business and open-border groups, and allow SB 2040 to proceed to floor debate.

    Please call, email and fax Gov. Scott to ask him to publicly support passage of the strong E-Verify bill.

    Office of Governor Rick Scott

    Talking Points

    -- Since you campaigned on extending E-Verify to all Florida employers, now is the time to publicly call for passage of a strong E-Verify law.

    -- The Budget Committee failed to move SB 2040 by the committee deadline, even with its weak E-Verify provisions, but it can still be cleared for floor debate. Please speak out now in favor of keeping the bill alive for further debate. Once on the floor, proponents can add the strong E-Verify provisions of HB 7089.

    -- There are 1.1 million unemployed in Florida while about 750,000 illegal aliens hold Florida jobs. We need the strong E-Verify provisions of HB 7089 to turn off the jobs magnet that attracts illegal aliens. This will free up jobs for citizens and legal residents.

    -- I am counting on you to stand up for unemployed Floridians and the taxpayers forced to underwrite the cost of illegal immigration. Please fulfill your campaign pledge by publicly speaking out in favor of a strong E-Verify bill.
